We stayed 2 nights in this lovely B&B on Valentia Island. The house is in a great location, just over the bridge from Portmagee and with views overlooking the harbour. The room was spotlessly clean with seated area, tea and coffee facilities, a fridge, TV and ensuite bathroom. Mary was very helpful and knowledgeable about the local area and even went to the trouble of buying in Almond milk for me as I am lactose intolerant - such a lovely lady! The breakfast was delicious and my wife particularly enjoyed the french toast with bacon and maple syrup. On our final day, Mary and Jim sat down and talked with us about the rest of our trip, showed genuine interest and offered recommendations - just lovely people! If you plan to stay on Valentia Island, stay here!

Just completed our 4 night stay with Mary and Jim on Valentia Island. Shealane Country House is a beautifully situated B&B, with gorgeous views of Portmagee Harbour and the surrounding Kerry cliffs.

The room and adjoining en suite were lovely, big and spacious akin to any 5 star hotel. Breakfast every morning was a delight with plenty of selection and variety, everything from the traditional fry to French toast and pancakes, served with a smile and a beautiful view.

Would stay with Mary and Jim again in a heartbeat, the B&B is brilliantly situated for all activities in Portmagee and Valentia, particularly for anyone visiting the Skelligs.

Thanks Mary and Jim for a wonderful stay, really appreciate it 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Our visit was excellent from before we got there until we left. Before we even arrived Mary had helped me to get a booking for the Skellig Michael tour. Nearly all the operators but Mary found probably the last two seats at short notice.
The B&B itself was great. The bed was very comfy, the room and house was spotless, the shower was excellent, the breakfast was amazing and the towels were the fluffiest I've ever felt.

Four of us had the absolute pleasure of staying at Jim and Mary's immaculate house recently. Such wonderful people, whose only wish is to ensure their guests enjoy all they have to offer,

Shealane House really has the highest standards of hospitality, cleanliness, comfort and excellent breakfasts imaginable.

There is a very comfortable sitting room for guests to enjoy, with a large television, cosy couches, and a fridge on the landing if you want to stay in and enjoy a cold drink. It also provides a lovely outside deck area.
Both of our bedrooms had spectacular views, and were beautifully presented with large very comfortable beds, dressed in high quality linen and wonderful pillows.
We also had a lovely area to sit, which had tea/coffee making facilities etc.
Plenty of wardrobe space, a wide screen television, and a good quality hair dryer.
Attention to detail even stretched to the provision of high visability jackets, very handy if you choose to take the short stroll to Portmagee for dinner.
The bathrooms were outstanding....fabulous showers, with immaculately clean glass, superb towels, lovely soap/shampoo, and a handy light over the sink.

Breakfast was a feast, served in the most beautiful surroundings of a conservatory with breathtaking views of Skellig Michael and Portmagee. Binoculars are even on hand, to help you appreciate the views.
Everything from the full Irish, French toast, kippers, scrambled/fried/boiled/poached eggs were freshly cooked to order, and while we waited there was juice, cereal, fresh fruit cocktail, (and it really was fresh fruit.... apple, orange, pineapple, melon, blueberries, strawberries etc. all chopped up in a large serving bowl), brown bread, cheese, pastries and coffee. The tea was brewed freshly to order, and arrived with hot brown and white toast.
Jim and Mary are a fountain of information on things to do locally, and will happily provide you with everything you need to know to make your visit special. The friendliest of hosts, who will always have the time to tell you about their amazing locality, and will go above and beyond to make you welcome. Nothing is too much trouble for them, Mary will even book a trip to Skellig Michael for you.....just make sure ask her well in advance of your arrival as it's very limited.

As seasoned travellers to many countries we have no hesitation whatsoever, in recommending Shealane House to anyone looking for the best accommodation in this part of Kerry.
You certainly won't be disappointed with the warm welcome, high standards, excellent food, and superb comfort you'll recieve here. Can't recommend it highly enough, we most certainly will be back again

We booked a two night stay lastweek but we stayed 3 .

The B&B is just superb we would normally take a hotel break but we decided we really wanted the Irish feel even though we live in Dublin. I have traveled every county and some of the small islands off Irelandx
our stay with Jim & Mary made me fall in love again with my own country.
I cannot fault anything.
We will be back this place has it all location and the feel for the real Ireland .
Thank You Jim & Mary you restored my faith in Irish hospitality

Just returned from a great weekend in Valentia Island. What really topped it off was this lovely B&B. Mary and Jim who run the B&B are so lovely and very welcoming. From the minute we arrived Mary couldn't do enough for us and gave us very useful tips about what do do in the local area. Mary also arranged for our boat trip to Skellig Michael and this is a trip we will never forget!! Portmagee is just a stones throw away and the food was to die for in the Bridge Bar, particularly if you are a lover of fish!
The rooms in the B&B were fabulous. Very spacious with an en suite bathroom. Also very clean. The breakfast each morning was lovely and set us up for the day. Good choice and couldn't have asked for more. This was by far the nicest B&B I have ever stayed in and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Will defo be top of the list for when I return to Valentia Island. Thanks again Mary and Jim!

Short break at this brilliant B&B. The weather wasn't that great but Shealane was and made for the most relaxing break.

A bright modern cheerful house on a hill just near where the causeway joins the island. There is free off road parking outside

Our modern and refurbished room had windows on 3 sides each with a stunning view. It was a great size and the bed was large comfortable with lots of pillows and very high quality linens. The walls were clad in wood and the bathroom in slate and tile with a power shower was brand new and superb. The room had a small TV, WiFi with a good signal and speed and loads of power points

Downstairs there's a large residents lounge with a huge TV and very comfortable sofas

Breakfast is served downstairs in a modern conservatory with stunning views (I know I keep saying that but its true. There is a great range of choices and food is cooked a la carte. The quality of the home baked breads is amazing

The quality of the welcome was even better than the room and food. This is a real gem of a place and the price is amazing value

Mary & her husband Jim are excellent hosts. Super friendly and have lots of knowledge about the surrounding area. We had arrived to do the Skellig Michael Landing Tour. However unfortunately it got cancelled at short notice and Mary & Jim provided us with some tips of other places to visit. We were in Room 5 which was a lovely comfortable room with everything you can think of provided, including shampoo/ body wash in the shower and hand wash for sink. They really do think of everything, even high visibility jackets for our walk back from Portmagee in the evening as there is a short walk after the street lights end at the bridge to get back to the B&B so take a torch if there’s not one on ur mobile phone! We also had a delicious breakfast. Plenty of options, cereals, fruit juices, cheeses & a lovely fresh fruit salad. You can order any hot items, my husband said that the scrambled eggs were excellent! Also plenty tea/ coffee and toast. Would highly recommend and would definitely return.

We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed Mary and Jim. Breakfasts were delicious; the bedroom and bath were spacious; lovely views; quiet location. I had booked this B&B nearly 6 months before traveling as I wanted to be sure we were near Portmagee. My objective was to do the Skellig Michael landing tour and Shealane B&B was the perfect location for an early morning departure. We walked to Portmagee from the B&B (about 15 minutes across the bridge. This B&B is a wonderful spot to sit back, relax, and enjoy some peace and quiet for a little while.

This was recommended to us by professional bike tour guides who knew all of the inside info on what to do. And were they ever right! Mary’s great cooking, delightful laugh and Jim’s sense of humor were just like visiting our favorite Irish relatives! The home was so comfortable and had spectacular views of the harbor town of Portmagee across the bridge. They helped us arrange everything from the Skellig Island boat tours to the restaurant recommendations. Could not be happier and the most restful 3 nights of our trip!
