The hotel is central in a small town close to just about everything in County Kerry. The rooms are comfortable and spotless. The staff are helpful and the evening meal was great and reasonably priced, I do miss the buffet breakfast but the menu and service is fine. Would recommend but watch out for accross the street parking as free parking is limited.
Stayed overnight in a quiet January. Great value for money for the area. We were looking for a good value, clean, comfortable room with a nice breakfast in a central location and this is what we got. It suited us for a family occasion. Had dinner in the restaurant with variety of menu and everyone in group enjoyed the food with good service. Breakfast was served with a cold, small buffet and made to order hot breakfast. No complaints, was more than adequate and well cooked and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Kids got lovely hot chocolate too. We stayed in a family room which was double single and a rollout bed. Bit cramped but fine. Town hotel so no views except of back of other buildings. To be expected. Bathroom well stocked. Good tea coffee tray in room. No water provided in room. Hotel overall is classic style, cute old school. Cosy bar off the lobby. Lovely lobby areas to relax overlooking the town main street. No extra facilities but ideal as a base for exploring this area of kerry. Within short drive or bus outside hotel to tralee and killarney. No parking specific to hotel but plenty parking in area. It is a good 3 star classic hotel. We would stay again. …
Stains on curtains, stains on chairs, stains on carpet and that was just the bedroom. Bathroom really needs work as light only by basin so when in the shower with the curtain drawn it is very dark. Also, can’t even stand up straight in the shower and I’m not particularly tall. Always nice to be able to stand under a shower but not here. Really needs some money spent on the place. Flat beer but the food actually wasn’t that bad and staff in restaurant were friendly enough.
Lovely staff all very helpful. Rooms are basic and comfortable - could do with the option of a larger bed as both the men in our party struggled to get a good night's sleep, one in particular who was over 6ft tall would have enjoyed his stay more if that option has been available. Breakfast was great good choice, and the porridge was lovely. plenty of tea and coffee if you wanted a top up. Hotel would benefit from parking or the option to have a sticker in the car that shows you are staying at the hotel.
I’m not one to complain much but the room was not clean. Window frames were black, stains on the sheets, layers of dust on the lampshades, lightbulbs not working etc. just not what I expected. We arrived a little later than expected due to getting lost on the way and when we checked in we were asked would we be wanting to eat in the restaurant that evening. We said no because we had already eaten and the response we got was ‘oh good because we’re sort of full anyway’. Which to me seemed a little casual. Nice interior downstairs and well decorated but just those small things would lead me to not go back there again. Hope I don’t sound too cruel.
Nice hotel, lovely staff, very reasonably priced, dining room could do with an upgrade, breakfast was okay, lovely little snug bar for a drink in the evening, Parking is an issue, street parking only !
Last Saturday our group of 42 had breakfast and evening meal at the River Island Hotel in Castleisland. We had breakfast there at eight o clock in the morning. The food was delicious and the service was first class. Everything was set up for us and the Manager, Willie and his staff were so efficient, so friendly and very helpful. We had a super experience also for dinner that evening. Our compliments to their chef also. We shall certainly be recommending your wonderful establishment and look forward to when we can call again.
This hotel was absolutely brilliant. The rooms were excellent and clean. The food was very tasty and they served a brilliant breakfast. The staff were second to none and a special mention to Imelda and Geraldine in the first class bar, they were superb as were all the staff, from the ladies serving breakfast to the reception desk staff also a young bartender was so friendly.
Firstly the food here is generally very good and this is a good thing as there is nowhere else in the town to eat after 6pm (unless you want fast food or chinese takeaway). We stayed 3 nights and ate here 3 nights - only the fish and chips was a little disappointing (a bit greasy). Breakfasts were fine - cooked stuff is very good but a poor selection if full Irish is not your thing. There is a bar on the street facing side that is closed so the hotel bar is your only option (small bit cosy). Staff were genetally good and friendly. Room was fine but beds were a little uncomfortable - our double was small and sank in the middle. We had a single in the room too so ended up in separate beds for comfort. Bathtoom was small. Taps need work to stop dripping and shower was just OK. Overall would stay here again but maybe just for one night as I like to have an alternative place for food. There are a few pubs in the town but none do food. Good base to explore Dingle peninsula and Ring of Kerry and a short drive to Killarney. They seem to get a lot of coach tours in so maybe check times they are dining to avoid the busiest timea for breakfast and dinner. They had music on 2 nights for them - one of whom was aying country and western which I would be disappointed with if I was a tourist looking forctrad music.…
The staff at the hotel are the best, the hotel owner, a gentleman is always around doing reception, bar, etc, and he refers to his staff as family and you can tell that they love working there. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a good stay. There is no other place to book but the River Island Hotel, it's only 20 minutes from Killarney and even closer to Tralee. The price was good, and the breakfast was good.
