Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My husband and I spent 3 wonderful nights here! If you are looking for a true Irish experience this is the place to be! From the beautiful lace trimmed sheets and pillow cases to the old Irish china used at breakfast it was just perfect. We so enjoyed meeting the owner and his sister who answered all our questions and were just delightful! Breakfasts were amazing and if you don't want their "true Irish breakfast" try their homemade "from scratch" pancakes! Amazingly good. If we ever make it back to this beautiful little town we'll see you folks again for sure!

Stayed for the marathon over 2 nights, really enjoyed the trip and Ben View is a fine B&B. Des is a gentleman. Great breakfast and great location for the craic, you are walking distance to plenty of bad and restaurants.

Upon walking into the Ben View House, you are transported to a different time where hospitality and welcome are key, and the very reason why someone 'vacations' is evident. When Eileen greets you in the cozy foyer, with exemplary service awards competing for space with family and historical documents and pictures on the wall, you know that you have arrived at a special place where you will leave a bit better for the experience.

Check out the lushly appointed breakfast room. I thought I was somewhere between an antique dealer and Buckingham Palace. Every table was annointed with incredibly beautiful settings. Fight the urge to sit down, and instead follow Eileen up to your room. Ours was spacious. The bathroom was modern. The shower superb! At 6'5" tall I had no problem with either the bed or the feeling of roominess.

The high standards are found down to the smallest detail. My wife and I were really impressed with the quality of the bedding. To some this may not be a big deal, but when you finally get into bed, and slip between the exquisite sheets and comforter, your slumber will precede what will be the reason I love to bed and breakfast.

Now the best part: Breakfast!! Go "Full Irish", or wait - no - you've got to try the pancakes. Or maybe if you're lucky, Eileen and her crew will add a pancake, festooned with kiwi and strawberry to your plate. The coffee was strong and the orange juice was fresh. I left full - not only in my belly but with a great memory of a fantastic trip.

The location couldn't be better. Street parking was no problem and every pub, restaurant and shop is within a picturesque stroll in a quaint Irish village.

My husband and I ventured out on the roads driving in Ireland for the first time. We picked Clifden from our home in Salthill, Galway, and were not disappointed! Upon arriving in Clifden, we decided to have dinner and spend the night. We needed a place to stay, and picked Ben View Guesthouse due to the location. It turned out to be so much more! The hosts, Eileen and Des, were welcoming and full of ideas for us. The room was very quiet and the beds comfy. Breakfast was made to order and did not disappoint. My husband declared the coffee, the best in Ireland!! As we were leaving, Des suggested we drive up Sky Road, which we knew nothing about. We followed his directions and it made our trip! Amazing views. So glad he suggested. We will definitely go back.

This was our second visit to Clifden and the Ben View, this time for two nights. The hosts, Des & Eileen, could not be nicer or more helpful. Great location, rooms spotless, and as many have mentioned truly one of the best breakfasts you will ever have. It is almost comical to go to the photo section for Ben View on TripAdvisor and see how many people have taken pictures of their breakfast...as did I. Can't wait to get back...We will!

Ben View House in Clifden was our destination after visiting Lettergesh Beach (filming location for the horse race scene in The Quiet Man. Also there is a long distance shot of Clifden in the movie - you'll recognize the two church's steeples.) We wanted to spend a couple days in a larger town where we could shop a bit, have a variety of pubs from which to choose, a larger grocery store choice so as to stock up on our travel snacks, etc. We were not disappointed! First, Eileen and Desmond's (brother and sis team) top-notch family tradition of accommodations to the public were a highlight of our trip to Ireland! The warmth of their hospitality and the charm of the inn took my husband and I right into the very image of the homey Ireland that we had hoped to find. Our room was comfortable and clean and we loved that we were located right in Clifden, proper, which means our car could stay parked whilst we visited the shops, bakery (Walshes Bakery is a must!), grocer, pubs with music, etc. Eileen's breakfast gives you a choice from full Irish to lighter fare - it's up to you and ever so yummy! Eileen, I will keep you posted on my success of replicating your pancakes and brown bread! Thanks for the tips! Ben View House and its amenities is absolutely charming and I cannot recommend it enough.

Very friendly proprietor Des, lovely breakfast and dining room, but bedroom, although clean and warm, was like something from the 1960's, just not good enough in my opinion.
Clifden itself is a long drive from anywhere, so make sure you have a good reason for going there. I was going to take photos of Kylemore Abbey so it suited me perfectly.

Clifden is a beautiful town and the Ben View House is a lovely place to stay! We arrived in town without reservations and Eileen was so welcoming and charming. The room was very nice comparing to many other places we stayed while touring Ireland. Very clean, warm, and quiet keeping an antiquated feel without being outdated. After a great night out enjoying some tremendous music, drinks and food (helped again by our ever-accommodating host), we awoke to a lovely, well prepared breakfast and a nice chat with Eileen who gave us a few more pointers for the road. We can't recommend this place and these people enough!!!

Is it easy to park a car nearby? Do you have private parking?
Answer from Pam C

Parking is the only downside to Ben View, but we found it to be . just a minor downside. You have to park on the street. Ben View does not have its own parking lot. And, I think we did have to pay a small daily fee to park.
