overpriced for what it offers
We looked forward to the pancake breakfast for a change, the berries were plentiful but the pancakes were partly burnt!
The linens were very clean, but the furniture was broken, the shower doors didn't close and there were no shades on the lamps. Honestly, they need to get new mattresses and fix things!
Three stars to me says that I'll get a basic room where things work and a decent breakfast.
That all being said, the location was great, the room was quiet at night and the table setting was beautiful - just be ready to think of it as a relative's house, not a B&B.
Des and Eileen are little treasures of Clifden with such a warm and fun welcome. Great chat on arrival and super advice about places to eat, routes to take, and full of local knowledge. The rooms are immaculate, and cozy, and have all the things you could want between TV, kettles with tea/coffee, hair dryers, warm blankets, cozy beds, and clean showers/bathrooms. The house is a little gem in Clifden, so convenient for the abundance of local tourist and souvenir shops - lots of classy stores, etc. We got treated like family and made to feel so welcome. The Bayview is in its 96 years and we promised Des we'd be back for the 100th anniversary. I'm pretty sure anyone who stayed once will be back. It really is that good.
The food at breakfast was better than any hotel I've visited around Ireland - the flavors, attention to detail, variety, and abundance. You wouldn't need to eat again till evening (and we didn't!). The Irish mixed grill is a must for anyone who loves their Irish brekkie but the pancakes also melt in the mouth delicious so your kids will be happy (you do get 2 pancakes with your mixed grill too so won't feel left out). Half our party had the salmon with scrambled eggs and were still raving about it hours later!
I'll be heading back to Washington DC on Monday but will be raving about this location to all my American pals who are planning trips to Ireland and who want to do the Atlantic Way and Kylemore Abbey which is also nearby.
First-class service, first-class rooms and food, and warm and friendly people. You can't ask for more. Prices are super reasonable for an overnight so go visit Des and Eileen and tell them Denise From DC said hi!! lol
