Detailed Reviews
We stayed for 2 nights, booking the Deluxe Double room. Very comfortable room, tastefully decorated with a bed we slept on soundly both nights. Location is about 20 minutes walk into Clifden or 5 mins by car on the stunning Sky Road. We had reservations about walking at nighttime but found it very safe, ensuring we carried a good torch and wearing high visibility jackets.
From the moment we arrived both Ruth and Stuart made us feel very welcome. We were visiting Connemara for some walking and cycling. Stuart kindly stored our bikes safely for us and in doing so we had the opportunity of some good chats.
What can we say breakfast was 5 star quality, beautifully cooked and beautifully presented by Ruth. We also had the pleasure of meeting a staff member who looked after us very well indeed and was a pleasure to chat to and we were delighted to have met her.
We absolutely will return - likely next year when weather permits and would unreservedly recommend a stay with Ruth and Stuart.

Ruth and Stuart are absolutely lovely! They confirmed our reservation very quickly and provided us with cabs' phone numbers, and indeed we needed one to get to the start of our hike.
Because all cabs were fully booked we had to change our City Link bus from Galway to an earlier bus, so we could drop the bags and get back in time to get the bus to Recess cross, and they have been very flexible with this and were kind to keep our bags before our room was ready.
The room was lovely, very comfortable, spotless, and....oh the view in the morning!!!
Breakfast is very well organized, guests are booked for a certain time, and a form needs to be filled in the day night before with our selection. Breakfast was lovely!
We checked out at 10.30am and again they kept our bags while we walked to the castle and to the beach which was nice again from them.
We would love to go back and stay more than one night!
Go raibh mile maith agaibh Ruth agus Stuart!

This was our second trip to Hillside Lodge and it's still our favourite place to stay in Clifden. Our room was spacious, the bed super-comfortable and our hosts, Ruth and Stuart, the epitome of friendliness and charm. Ruth's breakfasts will see you through the day with a variety of freshly prepared fruit salads, cereals, the full Irish or soft, light pancakes with maple syrup.
The only downside I can think of is having to leave.

My girlfriend and I often stay in AirBnB over actual B&Bs so this was our first experience of a proper B&B together. Ruth was incredibly welcoming and our room was lovely. The rooms are very basic but decorated beautifully and the personal touches and memorabilia around the B&B was brilliant. The bathroom was a bit of squeeze and pretty dated but everything was extremely clean! Recommendations for pubs and restaurants were extremely helpful. The one thing I love about an actual B&B is the breakfast and Ruth & Stuart did not disappoint. We put in our orders the night before and they even had gluten free options which was extremely helpful! I had the full english which was lush, poached eggs were cooked to perfection. Ruth was a fabulous host and I would recommend this absolute gem of a place to anyone travelling to or through Clifden!

Stuart & Ruth are very welcoming hosts to their beautifully decorated home located a short 20 minute walk outside Clifden or a very short drive. They were very accomodating for a last minute check-in. The room was spacious and very clean. Everything you could need for a weekend away was provided including fresh towels, a hair dryer and a coffee machine. We stayed for two nights and had delicious breakfast both mornings that kept us full for most of the day! I would highly recommend staying here!

Beautifully located outside Clifden with a lovely 20 minute walk to Clifden. A unique B&B with a strong music influence which is very evident. There was no TV in the room, which I very much welcome. It added to the peace and tranquility. Stuart was a great host and gave us great tourist recommendations including visiting The Misunderstood Heron, outside Leenane, which was well worth the visit. His wife cooked a delicious breakfast, which could not be faulted. Well worth a visit to this little gem!

Stayed 3 nights at Hillside Lodge as a large family grouping of 8 (ranging in age from 10 to 80+). We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to booking a return visit. The breakfast at Hillside is amazing...in terms of choice and quality! Stuart and Ruth are lovely hosts and their accommodation is spotless. A super place to stay, a short distance from beautiful Clifden.

This is one of the best B&Bs in Ireland without a doubt. The place is amazingly decorated and the rooms are super comfortable and extremely clean. The location is excellent as it is just 5 minutes drive from town and a short walk. Besides the sky road has such beautiful views for a morning jog.
Breakfast is 5 stars and a la carte with makes thing even nicer. They also let you have "special requests" in case you want somethin additional.
Ruth and Stuart are magnificient hosts although I must say the jewl of the crown is Treacle. A gorgeos and sweet black lab that will make you fall in love in seconds. But seriously Ruth adn Stuart cannot be more polite, kind, and accommodating. They will also give you the best tips to go wander around Connemara.
I cannot recommend this place enough and I cannot wait to go back.

Just stayed one night here and we loved it ! We were sorry to be moving on after we had been spoiled by Ruth’s delicious home made breakfast delights ..... and the warmth of the welcome from both Ruth & Stuart. Comfort and Cleanliness were top class as well as feeling very confident in these Covid days. Such a comfortable bed with lovely quality bed linen. Highly recommend and would definitely go back ! Ps. If you are a music fan you’ll love Stuart’s memorabilia in the lodge.
