Sea Mist House is a Georgian style family home built in the 1820s, when Clifden was first founded by John D'Arcy, and was acquired by the current proprietor's grandfather in the early 1900s. The house has recently been completely refurbished but still retains its warmth and character. It is listed in "Best of Bridgestone" and various other well-known travel guides.

I stayed two nights at this magical B&B this week. I have visited Clifden many times over the years, but decided to try something new this time, and I’m so glad I did.

Sheila gave me the warmest welcome into her absolutely beautiful home. It is a stunning old house, filled with such charm and character, but in a very elegant and refined way. The room was spacious and decorated beautifully, with every amenity you could ask for, including a small refrigerator, which was such a nice touch.

Breakfast is located in absolutely gorgeous glass-enclosed conservatory. Care has been delivered to every detail, including magnificent china and fresh cut flowers on every table. And the breakfast was outstanding….standout is a fantastic fresh fruit and yogurt parfait….magnificent. And the best coffee in Ireland. 

The house is literally 30 seconds walk from the town centre, so the location could not be more ideal. Clifden is lovely. Staying with Sheila made it perfect. I will definitely be back. Three nights next time.

Sea Mist is located in the very heart of Clifden, one of the most picturesque towns in Connemara. In fact, it is one of the most beautiful settings in all of Ireland. It has an absolutely lovely main street; gift shops, pubs, restaurants, art galleries, seaweed baths, and more!

Sea Mist is literally steps away from the town centre. In the evenings, the sun shines down on the square. The pubs that line the square have loads of outdoor seating, and there is simply no better way to wind down your day after seeing, doing, climbing, biking, hiking, walking and driving for hours than to sit in the warm sunshine and enjoy a couple of pints.

Now, what you are here for. Sea Mist may be the finest, most exquisite, and most spa-like experience I have ever had in all of my many years traveling around Ireland. I discovered Sea Mist in 2021, when seeking a change from the places I had stayed previously in Clifden. It is truly special. What strikes you first is the house itself. It's a gorgeous old stone home, set up a bit on an embankment. Sheila can often be found in her magnificent garden off to the side of her house. There are flowers and herbs growing everywhere. It is like a storybook home.

The guest rooms are finer than any 5 star hotel I've ever stayed in throughout Ireland. Gorgeous artwork in every room, magnificent antiques and artifacts, beautiful furniture, and serene color palettes used in the rooms. The linens are top quality, the beds are luxurious, and the bathrooms are spacious, with excellent shower pressure! Added bonus!

But what will truly make you feel like you are in another world is coming down for breakfast in the morning to the glass-enclosed breakfast room, located off the side of the house and right next to the garden. Absolutely stunning, with the most magnificently laid out tables, including fresh flowers on every table (and in the guest rooms too, I should add!). The breakfasts are perfection. Wonderful choices of yogurts with fresh or spiced fruit, eggs as you wish them, the full Irish breakfast, if desired...all of it! And the coffee! I don't know what magic they are doing in that kitchen, but it is the best coffee in the country. (No, seriously.)

Sheila's warmth is so soothing, and her energy so welcoming. You feel more than welcomed here: you feel wanted. You can tell a lot about Sheila by the hundreds of books that line the shelves of the house. Volumes on everything you can imagine...herbs, gardening, traveling around Ireland. Their interests are clearly varied, and among those interests is sincerely welcoming people to their home.

We had Room 4 on the front of the house for 3 nights. It is a spotless , large tastefully presented Room and surprisingly included a chiller which was really useful.
Sheila & Rod are really nice people and couldnt do enough for us . The breakfast was consistently superb.
Would definitely stay here again if we are in the area

Per great reviews I was so looking forward to a relaxing and hospitable stay, after a long day of travel. Alas - when I arrived one of my two pieces of luggage that had been delivered was missing. When I enquired, hostess Sheila curtly told me there was only one bag delivered for me. Thinking perhaps it had been inadvertently put in my room at the very top of the house, I went looking for it with no success (and no Wifi connection - doesn’t reach that far). I returned to the salon and asked if perhaps it could be in another guest’s room. Again, hosts insisted I had only one bag and my request was dismissed. Thinking perhaps my bag was at the neighboring Blue Quay B and B where friends were staying, off I went. The host at Blue Quay was extremely helpful, immediately checking every room for my bag and offering use of his WiFi. Multiple phone calls and texts were made to track down my bag. Still no bag, so back to Sea Mist, where I encountered other guests, and discovered my bag had been inadvertently taken to another guest’s room. After more than an hour of sleuthing, mystery solved! Hosts Sheila and Rod were appropriately somewhat apologetic. I choose to think that rather than helping me with my issue, they were a bit distracted and pre-occupied with a visiting travel writer. All that aside, nice location, interesting building and delicious breakfast.

What can we say, we were in Ireland for 7 nights on a road trip and this accommodation was by far the best! 10/10 or 5/5 or or or.

The almost 200-year-old house is delightful, with a pretty garden and very period-appropriate furnishings.

The absolutely lovingly furnished dining room should also be highlighted, as well as the two "common" or "living" rooms that you can use.

Old books, comfortable armchairs, small stylish fireplaces invite you to linger.

The typical Irish breakfast was excellent, creatively prepared and extremely delicious.

The short distance to the city center, with shops as well as a few pubs and restaurants, rounds off the entire stay.

Short, small hiking trails can also be reached in just a few meters and offer a perfect evening stroll. Some of these have a view of the sea (a small, sweet bay).

We stayed at “Seamist” for 3 nights while attending a wedding in the area. I only have good things to say about our time there. Our hosts Sheila and Rod were extremely welcoming. Our room was more than comfortable with a super king size bed, and a large en-suite. It was clean and presented to a very height standard. The breakfast menu offered multiple choices and was delicious each day. It’s location is excellent.
I would highly recommend this venue, it is reasonably priced for the service they offer.

We had 2 of our kids with us and the room was 2 separate rooms in one suite. The owners were the nicest people ever , you felt like you were staying with friends. I highly recommend this place . Very convenient to catch the bus to town. I will come back again next time.

Wish I could give more stars. We were in Ireland for a 10 day honeymoon and our two nights at the Sea Mist House in Clifden were far and away and the most pleasant. This felt like a true old fashioned honeymoon. The house and rooms were stunning and very comfortable. It felt like the perfect combination of refined, old world style and cosy, homey touches. Large, bright rooms with all of the amenities. Breakfast in the gorgeous, glass encased sun room. A nice quiet street right around the corner from all of the restaurants and shops. If you’re in Clifden, this is the place you want to stay!

Stayed with Sheila and Rodney for just one night but next time hope to stay longer. So much thought and effort goes into everything they do. The breakfast was excellent, our hosts couldn't do enough for us and were so generous with their time. Will definitely be back.

We chose here based on atip but while we would agree other writeups about house is lovely ,nice breakfast we had a very cold room like them with no heating that night or morning. Also no TV in bedroom added to a not so happy stay.Might be nice in summer but on a cold wet night very uncomfortable. Also talking to another couple we discovered they had got far better prices by coming off street.
