Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Cathriona and Patrick are very gracious hosts. The accommodations are inviting, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast option are absolutely amazing and delicious. I appreciated the fact that the owners had so much information available about restaurants, live music and activities. Definitely with the stay!

Delightful family run B&B. You felt like staying in someone's home, very comfortable, with the little things like LOTS of places to recharge all our phones etc. As good a breakfast as I have had. Quiet!! The lodge is an easy 10 minute walk from town and restaurants etc. Our bus driver from Galway dropped us off at the lodge. It is up hill if coming from town with luggage, so check with owners if you need a pickup in town. LOVED this place.

We had a great 3 nights in Clifden Town 5 minutes walk. Lovely room and breakfast was superb with a great choice. We were particularly grateful for being able to hand over some soaked backpacks and clothes for complimentary drying. Highly recommended and deservedly so.

Despite the various Covid restrictions & with pubs & restaurants still closed for indoor dining we went to Clifden & stayed in Buttermilk Lodge, it was a promised a 5 minute walk from the centre of town.the owners & staff were wonderfully friendly & helpful. The breakfasts freshly cooked to perfection , & the homemade bread was not to be missed. Our room was spacious, the bed very comfortable & the bathroom spotlessly clean , the views from the bedroom of the distant hills were spectacular . A wonderful me.orable visit to the town & to this b&b,we will be back & have recommended it to our friends.

A warm welcome awaited us at Buttermilk Lodge when Storm Ellen forced us off our campsite for a night. Tea and delicious fruitcake on arrival and a peat fire on return from dinner. Breakfast was delicious - everything spotless. Thanks again!

Wonderful place to stay while touring the area. Clean, Comfortable and Spacious accomadation. Breakfast was delicous with a fantastic selection of home produce. Catriona and Patrick are the most welcoming hosts with fantastic attention to detail. We could not have asked for a nicer place to stay and within easy walking distance to the main streets. Will definitely be returning.

We are just back from a thoroughly enjoyable 3-night stay at Buttermilk Lodge. We were warmly greeted by Cathriona on arrival. We were offered teas/coffees and also homemade cake, which went down a treat in the cosy sitting room. The bedrooms are spotlessly clean, with super comfy beds and powerful hot showers. Breakfast selections are numerous and portions will fill you up for the day! Nothing was any trouble. Location is ten minute walk to town where there are plenty of restaurant options. Cathriona went above and beyond with making us feel welcome. She was so helpful booking dinner in restaurants and also ferry tickets to Inisbofin for us. We would love to return to Buttermilk Lodge if we visit Clifden again.
