We stayed for 3 nights, and enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and couldn't be more helpful.

The hotel is old world charm, very clean and beautiful location with lots to do and see.

Food is very good and portions are large, the restaurant for evening meal is a little pricey €49 for 2 courses, add in drinks and the bill soon adds up to €150.

A 5 minute walk into the town, but one section of the country road has no paths, so caution is advised when coming home from the town at night.

Our only complaint was the hotel was too warm, we had to ask for a fan for the room, but the weather was very hot, so not alot the hotel could do in fairness!

A very pleasant stay. We will be back!

Myself and fiancée stayed in room 41 from 27th of August for 2 nights . This hotel is just a different world . Firstly I would like to say that post covid I would be high risk due to asthma so it was very reassuring to see excellent covid regulations in place ... which were adhered to by all staff and managers to the highest standard . Rooms and the whole castle areas were spotless yet the warm Irish welcome was still prevalent. All staff we encountered clearly love their jobs and the managers Brian and Ronan are an example to all of us in the customer service industry in how to welcome guests . Both gentleman are the beating heart of the hotel and really go out of their way to ensure every guest is treated as a VIP. The castle is truly magical and the food is the best in the whole of clifden . Lovely sing song every evening in the bar . . Could not have felt more at home at this beautiful castle . A must visit . Special mention to Paul and Jim in bar . Dermot in bar . Grainne and Katie in reception . Young man in reception on Friday morning sorry didn't get his name and all the hard working accommodation staff , also jack in restaurant , lovely man playing piano in the evening , and of course compliments to the chef for the best dinner !

Two night stay in what I would describe probably our best staycation experience ever.
On arrival we received a warm welcome with an invitation to champagne reception hosted by Brian Hughes ( proprietor) along with a talk on the history of the Castle and the town of Cliften , Brian's enthusiasm in delivery and the content were most enjoyable which set the tone for our mini break.

Connemara is a special place and the Abbeylgen is unique in customer service, ambience , food and location. The staff are excellent, the bedrooms very comfortable and the dining room very relaxing with the piano player adding greatly to evening meals where the menu selection offered a great choice. The entertainment in the bar most relaxing with guest contributions adding to the atmosphere.
Brian is a a top class front of house guy who manages an excellent hotel with a highly motivated team . A trip to Connamara should definitely include a stayover in the Abbeylgen , you will not be disappointed. Cliften is an ideal location to base yourself to tour a magic part of Ireland .
A great experience in Abbeylgen Castle, we will be back.

We stayed here for two nights.

The staff was very friendly and professional and eager to when needed.

Ronan is a friendly, professional and humors individual. Talking with him was a delight. He is an asset to this hotel.

The Abbeyglen hotel is a beautiful, quaint hotel with a nice charm. Our room was inviting and the bed was very comfortable

We ate breakfast here (included in our package). We also ate dinner here one night. The food tasted very good. Portion size is European. The prices reflect the atmosphere of this hotel so expect it to be a little pricey. The dining room staff were very friendly and accommodating. A very pleasant eating experience

On our first night we were invited to the bar in the evening where Ronan provided all of us with champagne and told us about the some history about Cliffden and the hotel. He also took group pictures of all the guests and handed them out to us upstairs in the dining room.

Parking is available on site.

Looking for a Staycation in West I came across the Abbeygken Castle Hotel and booked for 3 nights which included 5 course dinner in 2 nights.
Our room was big with 4 poster bed, the welcome and history of Abbeyglen and the surrounding area talk by Brian ( the owner) was a great start to our visit with complimentary drink. All of the staff are wonderful and like a big family . The food is amazing and the atmosphere in the restaurant is great with the staff stopping to have a few words with the guests. All very relaxed. The bar area is great too with John( the owner) singing some great numbers and playing the piano along with some guests, and he can sing . Brian is like a Dynamo, he is certainly the best hotelier I have ever met. He looks after everyone so well. We met lots of other guests who seem to come every year and we will now be joining that club. Great Hotel, Great staff, Great food, Great Room, Great Holiday. Great area and Clifden is great also with some great things to do .

Stayed here for 3 nights in June 2021. We had the 3 nights B&B with 2 evening meals package. Everything about the visit was off the highest quality. All staff from the reception desk to the bar to the restaurant were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms and bathrooms very very large, comfortable and clean.

The hotel is located just outside the town of Clifden on the Sky Road. The grounds (including a tennis court and helicopter pad) are very well maintained and there are tables and chairs outside to sit at if the weather is nice.

There is a champagne reception every evening at 6.30pm. There is then a talk from the hotel owner on the history of the hotel and the town of Clifden, Dinner goes from 7.30pm to 10pm in the upstairs restaurant. The service and quality of the food in the restaurant is off the highest quality.

FInally, the owners (Brian and Ronan Hughes) cant do enough to make your stay as enjoyable as possible and as this is not a huge hotel everybody really gets the personal touch.

Overall an great stay.

The Hughes Family continue to host like no other! Given recent county wide restrictions, I was lucky enough to stay here on a couple of occasions in the run up to Christmas. The welcome you receive is like no other, the food continues to get better, the wine menu offers a fantastic selection across all price points and tastes, and enough cannot be said for the entertainment. On top of that, the hotels location means there are many walks, trails and hikes on its doorstep. The Abbeyglen will be my first choice for a break away in 2021.

I recently had the great pleasure of staying at the well known Abbeyglen Castle Hotel whilst attending an event. The GM Brian is truly the beating heart of this hotel. His gregarious personality & generosity of spirit is intrinsic to the warm & welcoming ambience here. The staff are exceptional, open & genuine with smiles all round & nothing is too much trouble. From Gráinne & Ann on reception, to Lavinia, Roger, Jim & Brian in the cosy bar to Jules, Aiden & Monika in the restaurant, the team are a credit to The Abbeyglen. Local musicians Ciaran, Richie & Michael know how to entertain a crowd & as is the Irish way, sing songs are par for the course! The rooms are traditional & comfortable & the open fireplaces are fabulous spots to take a rest after a long day discovering the breathtaking beauty of Connemara. There are few simple pleasures better than a real turf fire! Any trip to beautiful Connemara should include a stay at The Abbeyglen.

Our family spent a beautiful Christmas in the excellent care of the Abbeyglen Castle family. From the warm welcome on arrival to the friendly greetings throughout the days, we had three lovely nights in Clifden and really got to put our feet up and enjoy Christmas without any of the fuss. Hospitality, entertainment, eating and drinking were fantastic as always. Our rooms were so spacious, comfortable and warm - at no time did we feel Covid-compromised while still able to enjoy the fun activities organised for the guests. And we left the best way possible: looking forward to our return.

The friendliest welcome in County Galway & Connemara
We only stayed one night in Oct 2020, but it was perfect.

The superior room was amazing with a large 4 poster bed and sofa in front of a real gas fire, it was beautiful.

The Staff and management couldn't have been more welcoming, the food and service was first class, with piano playing and singing in the bar in the evening, it was the perfect end to our tour of the Wild Atlantic way and Connemara.

Thank you

The Cliffs of Moher are south of Galway nearer Shannon airport . Clifden is a town with lots shops pubs restaurants . Sky road is a must the most spectacular scenery . Make sure you meet Paul Hughes who in my opinion is the most decent hotel operator in Ireland . Enjoy the trip .
