I have stayed many times at this wonderful hotel for both business and pleasure. It is truly the jewel of the West!! It starts from being greeted at the entrance by the wonderful Brian Hughes to unique rooms that are a perfect blend of character and comfort. The food is outrageously good - the crab claws a must!! For business the rooms were quiet and no issues with WiFi. It’s always a wonderful and fun time and highly recommend staying as long as time allows!! Every time I return from the US I make every excuse to be at the Abbey Glen.
We stayed in the beautiful Abbey Glen in August. Our room was spectacular, spotless and well appointed. We joined other guests to enjoy owner Brian’s interesting and humorous welcome and history chat. Our dinner meal was excellent with attentive service, and the breakfast was also great. All the staff were professional and helpful. This is a beautiful place as a base to explore Connemara or to just relax and never leave the castle grounds. We visited from Canada and were surprised to meet other North Americans as well.
We enjoyed our stay and found the staff friendly and helpful. However, the 25 euro supplement for the Lobster was a rip-off as the Lobster we were served had to be a Canadian variety (half the size of an Irish lobster). Either that or they were serving under-sized Irish lobsters) Pity.
I stayed here with a friend in the past few days. Room comfortable and food very good. What makes this hotel different from other four star hotels is that the owners get to meet their guests and make them feel welcome. This hotel is very well placed for touring the beautiful scenery of Connemara. I recommend it.
we arrived on Monday to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the hotel we were shocked to see members of staff including the owners not wearing masks while serving meals in the dining room. later in the evening in the hotel bar we observed people arriving in who were not hotel guests and were not wearing masks in the hotel and they seemed to be friends of the owners when i confronted the owner he became agressive and confrontational and said " what do you want me to do" having pointed out the Covid rules he was not interested and walked away so we decided to pack our things and leave once a great hotel but now a poor shadow of its former days.
