Stayed 2 nights in Room 10 which was quite clearly a single room with a double bed squeezed into it which meant there was barely room to walk round bed or open bathroom door. When we questioned this we were told ‘you dont pay for size of room, you pay for size of bed!’ Room was tired, only a small wardrobe with 3 hangers and no coffee/tea facilities or full length mirror. We were in Clifden for a wedding and couldn’t even see what we looked like! Curtains flimsy….i could go on! Was more like student accommodation and did not represent photos on website whatsoever! Only good thing was location
Damp and dusty! No tea making facilities, although it said kettle. Yes, there was a kettle out on a table on landing? Not a cup or glass in sight, never mind a teabag! Torn carpets, biscuits under my bed…. definitely not good value. Cash payment only. If there was more than one person in room, just bring clothing for one night. Tiny wardrobe.
Great location, room clean , shower ok but all a little tired and in need of a makeover. Breakfast was very good both full Irish and continental. I think the owners have just recently taken over, and the wine bar in the same building is very nice( separate review). The potential for a classy bnb is there, good luck to them in their efforts.
Did not receieve an overly warm welcome compared to other B&B hosts. Unclear where to check in. We stood in the shop for 5 mins until a customer advised us to walk out the back.I found that this place was perhaps understaffed. I think there should be designated staff for the B&B, restaurant and the wine shop instead of staff everywhere and having guests standing in the shop or restaurant awaiting check in. We were not provided with a wifi password nor shown to our room. There was no password for the wifi in the room either, I made an educated guess and luckily got logged in. Room was dated. No kettle facilities but we were advised of this upon check in. We also had dinner in the restaurant, again, I believe they were understaffed. Whilst a couple beside us clicked their fingers to grab attention for more drink, we were sitting waiting for someone to take our order for approx 10 to 15 mins. We also had to ask for cutlery after having been given our food. We purchased a bottle of wine afterwards and asked for a bucket of ice to take to our room, we were given a bucket and no ice.. pretty pointless.. As for breakfast, whilst my partner ordered the irish breakfast and I got the continental, I had finished my breakfast by the time my partners came out. Whilst management were pleasant, I got the impression that their passion lay with the wine business as opposed to the overnight hospitality.…
Great staff. Great location. Would recommend to everyone looking for somewhere to stay in Clifden. All staff that we came across were very friendly and helpful. Room was spotless! Perfect location. Fabulous wine.
The Arch is well situated in the centre of Clifden. Can definitely recommend Mannions next door for food and music. The Arch is a little tired and needs a make over, but was comfortable enough. I still struggle with having to decide on what I want for breakfast the previous evening Full Irish or Continental. Both were ok. However, on the second morning, having asked for scrambled egg (apparently a boiled egg was beyond the kitchen's capability!) I found all the breakfast was cleared - if you have a cooked breakfast then you cannot have a bowl of cereal.
We found this B&B by chance and we were glad we did, as Clifden seemed to be booked out. We were greeted by Carmel and she could not do enough for us, comfortable and very clean establishment. She even ironed my top for the evening for me! outside is a lovely courtyard, quirky decorated and very nice area to share a bottle of wine in the evening. Carmel provided us with wine glasses and we had a nice quite evening in the courtyard. Breakfast was good and checkout was easy. Great centre location.
I cannot recommend The Arch enough, we had a brillant few days away and Carmel the lady in charge was a brillant host. The rooms are small, however you dont go to clifden to spend all day in them. Rooms are spotless and bed very comfortable, breakfast was super and just what you needed to start the day. Clifden has some of the most stunning views i have ever seen and a must see for every age.
Stayed in guesthouse with Carmel for the weekend of the Tour De Conamara. We arrived very late on Friday night but no problems for our host. Breakfast was super and piping hot both days. Beds very comfy and so convenient in the Main Street. We all parked our bikes in the dining room for safe keeping before the cycle, the night after in the lovely wee courtyard. GREAT B + B and will use again. Thanks Carmel.
Located right in town, so park your car and enjoy. Comfortable and quiet. The restaurant right next door is worth a visit. Neat little shops to see as well. You can park for free in a lot nearby, and free after 6 in front of the hotel. Be sure to try the Sky Road. You will see where the name came from.
