We recently enjoyed 2 nights stay at the Bush Hotel. We were warmly greeted by the receptionist who efficiently checked us in. We were given a superior room- a strange shaped room with beds for 4 people. It was very clean and the bathroom was spotless. We ate in the hotel both nights as the staff in the dining room were excellent and took care of us with friendliness and good cheer. The food was very good with a nice choice and very generous helpings. Due to the Covid restrictions sadly we were unable to use the residents lounge. This was understandable as the hotel observed Covid precautions. I observed a staff member constantly cleaning other furniture and surfaces throughout the hotel(doing a great job too). There are lots of interesting photos and historical information about the hotel and surrounding area throughout the place- testimony to a great, long standing traditional hotel.

Very interesting hotel with masses of history on display. Two really special rooms looked very enticing but we’re closed off because of Covid so would like to view them on another visit. Right in the heart of the town so superb location for walking or for driving to loads of interesting nearby attractions. Staff are lovely and you feel really welcome from minute you enter. Our room was huge and was very clean and comfortable. Dined on hotel first night and couldn’t fault the food. Good choice even for me on restricted diet. However we found the prices rather steep even though looking around other restaurants many were similar so maybe we’re just used to lower prices. My husband said his breakfast fry and porridge were very very good. I can’t eat these things so for me choice wasn’t really available other than yogurt and toast. Maybe croissants or pancakes could be offered as an alternative. The town is lovely and really interesting and we were sorry to leave after only two nights.

So we recently had a hen in the hotel, the staff was friendly really couldn't do enough for you. The issue I had was the public areas needing more extra love and care the rooms was spotless, but the restaurant was badly needing a dusting putting up signs for people to see and them covered in dust while you eat is a turn off, the skirting boards was blacked with rubber shoe marks easily removed with a damp cloth and white rubber maybe it's part of the Eco friendliness? Which brings me on to the coffee cups which aren't recyclable, hotel lacks sufficient Eco friendly lighting ie LED lights, the double doors are very noticeablly dirty, the heat is absolutely killing there had to have been some fuel burning to warm a hotel like that! The area also to the rooms before the restaurant the floor divider absolutely needs to be marked as the amount of times it was tripped on was ridiculous! Just something management can look into but the staff we dealt with was absolutely brilliant efficient, polite, courteous and put up with an awful lot, also worth thinking on the safety and privacy of staff, first names is sufficient on name tags we live in a cyber era and there is an awful lot of not nice people out there, stalking, following and intimadating. Excellent hotel all in all just the cleaniness in public areas and the question of how eco friendly it is?

We decided on a staycation after our Spanish holiday was cancelled. There are lots of places to choose from with some good deals on offer. We were interested in some outdoor activities around this area so strikes in the Bush Hotel. I read reviews beforehand and had a good look on google etc and was satisfied that it was a good looking 3* hotel. We are a family of six so booked two family rooms. The hotel itself is nice on the outside, lots of nice planters and flowers to add a bit of character. Parking around the back was very convenient and it is within walking distance of all bars and restaurants. We had a deal
agreed over the phone €600 B&B for three nights which was for two rooms so not too expensive for six people. Arrival / check in was good with a lovely young girl on reception who was very pleasant to deal with. We got our rooms and I knew immediately that I was unlikely to stay all three nights. The hotel has a slight fusty smell and definitely could have done with a good hoover in places. Our room was clean on initial inspection and the beds were certainly freshly clean with spare pillows available. The walls in the room were really dirty though. Along the radiator which was also filthy, the wall was badly marked with black scuff marks. The wall at the door was also badly marked and really dirty. The skirting boards were chipped with paint peeling off. It gave the room an overall tired, worn look and really there’s no need for this. The bath mat was made of paper but the towels were in good condition. The breakfast was good and service was efficient. I don’t really get how any family run hotel could look at our room and say to themselves that it was a good example of what they offer to guests. A few touch ups here there would make all the difference. The corridors were lined with chairs that seemed out place. It gave an untidy feel to what could be a lovely little boutique hotel. There are lots of interesting photos on the walls that do add character. Overall I think the carpets need cleaned and a paint job would definitely help. We cut our trip short as a result and I would not stay here again.

When we first arrived at the hotel we were greeted by the most accommodating receptionist. I think her name was Dee. She was so kind and friendly and gave us great hopes for our stay. Unfortunately this was the start to a terrible stay. On arrival which was after 3pm our room was still not ready. So we went to the bar for food and drinks, to say this was a disappointment would be an understatement. We specifically requested no mash or veg with our dinner, which arrived with mash and veg overflowing on the plate. When I asked the waitress to take it back she just told me to leave it on the plate and not eat it. When we asked for cutlery our request was ignored so we had to find some ourselves on another table. And our condiments arrived once our food was finished. The deep fried plaice, resembled a dodgy piece of donegal catch. Overall a terrible experience. To make matters worse, the night porter pushed his way into our room on Saturday evening, while 6 people from our party were sitting in our room chatting quietly (we are all fully vaccinated). On Sunday evening we were told by a night porter that there are 90 cameras in the hotel and they were watching our every step, as if we were some type of criminals. When we spoke to the owner on check out he blamed our bad experience on covid, this was after another lady (the breakfast supervisor prehaps) tried to charge us €350 for our stay which we had already paid on arrival. With the easing of restrictions across Ireland, I don't see how he can blame this terrible experience on covid. The Bush Hotel needs to take a long hard look at the people they are employing, and work on their customer service skills. This place resembled more of a prison than a hotel. Do not go here!

We had lunch here twice on a recent stay in the area as it was almost the only place open. We booked for Sunday lunch and arrived a little early. The table wasn't set and we had to ask for everything soup spoons, condiments, napkins. The food was very good, all the meat eaters loved their dishes although many were served with different sides than on the menu (some were missing altogether). Good to see a veggie option on the menu (quiche). The dining room lacked atmosphere, it felt like we were in an overflow area. The atmosphere was made worse by the manager having a disagreement with a diner while we and others were eating our meals. The cafe next door is part of the same complex and on our 2nd visit we thought we were being seated in the lovely cafe seating area upstairs but we were seated in the same space as the day before. We shovelled in our lunch and left.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights whilst on a 10 day coach trip of a tour of Ireland to say this is the worst hotel I've ever been in would be an understatement. The twin-bedded room my sister and I were allocated more resembled a prison cell than a hotel bedroom it was so small only one of us could stand up at any given time. One of the bases of the beds was filthy with many stains which we dared not imagine what their origin was. There was no shelf in the bathroom to put our toiletries on and thus had to put our toilet bags on the floor. We had no coffee /tea making facilities in our room and when we requested this we were advised by the manager that due to vivid they were no longer supplied. However, when we said we had been invited in to 3 other rooms by members of our coach party and everyone had tea making facilities she agreed to supply these. Breakfast was terrible, the plate of toast (white thin sliced bread) was already on the table when we arrived and not only was it cold it was also quite rubbery. The cooked breakfast was Plonked in front of us and was also lukewarm and quite uninspiring it also has been plated up for some time. The dinner was also served in the same fashion. The first night I had "beef curry" which had a dollop of mashed potato and Swede turnip on top there was so a bowl of mashed potatoes and turnip on the table. In fact these were the only vegetables we were given on our 2 night stay. I told the person-in-charge that while I liked most vegetables I strongly disliked mashed potatoes and turnip her reply was to tell me it was good for me which made me feel like a five year old. I was glad I only had to endure this hotel for 2 nights. I could say much more but might bore you dear reader

We stayed for a few days before Christmas with two young children. The room was very large, sleeping four of us. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and we had no issues with the heating it was perfectly warm at all times. We didn't try the breakfast as it's not worth the high cost for small children who would not eat a full Irish. There are plenty of cafes open early if you want something different. The hotel is in a great location on the high street, surrounded by shops, restaurants, pubs and coffee shops. All at a very reasonable price per night. the communal areas had great character. the receptionists who checked us in and out were both very friendly. Recommended!

Decided to take overnight trip to Carrick on Shannon and on ringing the Bush to enquire about facilities in the town was very impressed with the service provided so selected it for our stay. We were not disappointed. Great welcome at reception and real efficiency we were able to access our room on arrival. Room was comfortable and clean. Tasty and substantial breakfast served by a helpful group of waitresses. The building itself is full of character and each corridor provided wall after wall of treasures. Would recommend to friends.

I stayed here on a short visit to Co. Leitrim and was very pleasantly surprised by the accommodation, the facilities, and the very high standard of food in the restaurant. A genuine Irish welcome, what a difference that makes when the property is family-owned and run. Ambience very cosy, a little like stepping into the past but with all the comfort of the present. Superb location on the Main Street, with access to a variety of pubs , heritage & of course the River Shannon. If Gunpowder gin is your preferred tipple, you don';t even need to step outside the door on a chilly evening!

Why is there a cctv camera on the ceiling of the gents toilet .?
Answer from Joe D

Dear Sir I note with concern your review and indeed similar posts on various other social media in relation to your recent visit to the Bush Hotel following your discovery of a ‘covert’ dome camera in the gents’ toilets and the sinister implications arising. Whist I have previously responded to you privately I wish, for the public record, to clarify the facts as indeed I could and would have (and indeed demonstrated to you) had you expressed concerns to a staff member on the day of your visit. In the gents toilets I confirm there indeed is a relatively large dome camera clearly mounted and visible on the ceiling in the wash hand basin and hand drying (but not urinal) area as would be confirmed in the photographs you took. Furthermore, this camera is also in fact a dummy unit the purpose of which is to deter mild antisocial behaviour (smoking, loitering etc) and there is absolutely no compromise in patron privacy. Should you continue to be unhappy I again suggest you contact the Office of Data Protection or any other statutory body with whom we would confidently co-operate or indeed the Joe Duffy Show mentioned in your ultimatum of a previous post. Whatever your motivation I again respectfully request you remove your unhelpful and potentially damaging posts to our business. In the meantime I do not propose to engage further on this issue being more inclined to look after my genuine, valued and appreciative patrons. Sincerely Joseph Dolan Managing Director

Also, sorry. I didn't book a room with a Jacuzzi so I'm afraid I can't help you. You might want to contact the hotel staff, they might be able to answer your question.
