Detailed Reviews
We recently booked a family room at the Friars Lodge. It was very impressive regarding its location, it is a two minute walk into the heart of the beautiful town of Kinsale, with free car parking. The approach to the lodge from Cork is really easy to get to and avoids having to navigate your car through the winding medieval streets of Kinsale, which are better approached on a leisurely stroll.
The room was incredibly spacious for our family of four. The beds were really comfortable and everything was clean and tidy. The lodge was also located in quiet surroundings so the kids had no problems drifting off to sleep. The wifi was fast enough for us to download movies quickly onto the iPad to watch with the kids just before bedtime. The room also had an iron which was great for giving packed clothes a quick run through before heading out in the evening.
The breakfasts in the morning were great and provided something for everyone in our young family, the cooked breakfast was superb.
Maureen, who owns the lodge, was welcoming, incredibly nice and really put us at ease, with great knowledge of the area.
This was our first Covid 19 trip and we were reassured by the level of social distancing and hand sanitiser in the lodge.
It was excellent value for money and I would easily recommend it to anyone with a young family or anyone wishing to visit Kinsale,

We were a hen group coming to Kinsale for 2 nights. We had originally booked other accommodation months in advance so knew nothing about friars lodge. On the day we were travelling down for the hen, i received a phone call stating i was double booked and we could not stay there anymore. it was a nightmare and we had no where to stay. I went to a local hotel to ask for help and they called our fairy god mother Maureen at Friars lodge. Maureen heard our story and immediately opened up Friars lodge for us to stay in. Maureen gave us as many rooms as we needed and more. Nothing was too big an ask even when we locked one of the keys in the bedroom she came straight away and sorted us out. Maureen was so kind and friendly and we had the whole guesthouse to ourselves. Maureen was renovating the property so it was closed for a few weeks but saved our hen weekend by taking us in. Maureen we cant thank you enough you really helped us out. When we got there i was so happy with the rooms. All the rooms were massive! I think it is better than some hotels I have stayed in. We had everything we needed in the rooms including, tv, iron, towels, toiletries, tea making facilities and the location was absolutely perfect! We were a 2 minute walking distance from all local attractions. I have always heard kinsale is such a friendly spot and the people are amazing but Maureen you went above and beyond for us and we cant thank you enough. If anyone is thinking about Friars lodge I would highly recommend this place its amazing!

The Friar's Lodge is a perfect European style hotel with very large, clean rooms in a perfect walkable location in the pretty colorful harbor town of Kinsale. We received a very friendly welcome even though we arrived as a later check-in after a long drive. It is in a perfect walkable location in Kinsale with easy free parking and a Full Irish Breakfast including a delicious bowl of fresh fruit and porridge with Baileys. All the ladies who work there are very nice. The blue mint hard candy in the hallways was a nice treat. The Friar's Lodge is a very reasonably priced great option in Kinsale. No wonder Rick Steve's recommends it!

A dog-friendly, wonderfully well kept building with clean rooms and very helpful and friendly staff.
Maureen (the proprietor) was very, very helpful. She went above and beyond to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. She made sure that my husband was able to watch a Euros game when all pubs were booked out!
At breakfast my heart was broken because the tomato sauce sachets just aren't enough for me (due to Covid restrictions we cannot use bottles) so one staff member, Mary (also exceptionally kind and helpful) filled up a pot for me the next morning to enjoy as much sauce as I wanted! It's the little things like that that make Friar's Lodge so great.
The room was exceptionally clean, bed was very comfortable and the shower pressure was unreal. The building itself had character and appeal. Our two doggies also thoroughly enjoyed their stay at no extra charge and safe and secure off road free parking!
The lodge was also perfectly located in the centre of town! So no long walks into the town like if you were staying at The Trident Hotel.
To Maureen and staff, thank you so much for your hospitality - we will definitely be returning!

A great spot for a girls weekend in Kinsale. The owner showed great kindness to us and the guesthouse is in a fantastic location for exploring the beautiful little town of Kinsale. This was my second visit to Friar’s Lodge, having stayed here a number of years ago for a wedding in Ballinacurra House.

Everything made us feel 100 times better. They couldn't have done more for us. Would highly recommend! Mary is a star and all of the staff are amazing

Our second visit to this lovely bed and breakfast. Maureen and the team made us very welcome. There is excellent parking on site, comfortable room, lift/elevator to give easy access with heavy luggage, good Wi-Fi in room, lounge and breakfast room. Lots of choice at breakfast and all well cooked and served fresh. The lodge is in the heart of Kinsale but on a quieter back street, giving good access to the many local hospitality and retail businesses and also a little separation.
We had our dog with us and she loved the lodge. Obviously not allowed at breakfast, but otherwise she was able to enjoy her stay. The best walks are a short drive or long walk, such as at James Fort or Charles Fort, with her favourite beach being Garylucas beach about 5 miles away.
Stupidly, I left an item behind. It was efficiently found and returned, which was greatly appreciated.

Maureen hosted a group of 15 of us last weekend and each one of us commented on what a fabulous B&B it was. Situated within a 2 minute walking distance of the heart of Kinsale this B&B us spotlessly clean, the rooms and bathrooms were so spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was top class and everyone working there was so friendly. I will definitely return to this B&B and would highly recommended it. This B&B is excellent value for money. Thanks for having us Maureen.

Even though we had rainy weather, we had a wonderful time here Maureen and her daughter provided wonderful recommendations for restaurants in the area and and shopping. The rooms are old world style and you. will get a local flavor. The room is clean, and a nice view over the city. There is offstreet parking, which is very important in this area. You could not hear any street noise or other patrons in the hotel.

Stayed here for one night and having stayed in several places in Kinsale I hadn't heard of this place and decided to give it a try. What a pleasant surprise. Central location, big comfy and absolutely spotless rooms, with kettle, tea, coffee, iron, ironing board, smart TV and big bathroom. Quiet location and had a great night's sleep. Leaflets and books in room on places to see and eat. Overall highly recommend and Maureen the host who has worked there for 20+ years was welcoming and full of local knowledge. Will be back !

Some of the rooms have both. Others have just a shower. If you need a bathtub, just send them a note requesting a room with both. They are very kind and helpful.
It is walkable but it is a bit of a hill...Have you luggage with wheels , if so it is doable.safe journey and look forward to seeing you soon
