Detailed Reviews
The Glen Country House is a beautiful place to stay and is owned and managed by Mrs. and Mr. Scott. The Glen Country House is located in Ireland with a gorgeous view of Courtmacsherry bay.
The rooms are like pictures from a fairytale. The beds are so comftorble it feels like you are sleeping on a cloud. They have a feather comfreters and pillows and while you are relaxing in bed you can watch the flat screen T.V. I also loved the way they assorted the all the furniture and accessories. It was so luxurious!
My family and I absolutely loved the cows and horses! When we arrived at the farm/country house we were pleasantly greeted by cows, horses, 2 dogs, and Mrs. and Mr. Scott. I felt so welcome.
Mrs. Scott is a fantastic cook! She made us hot scones and tea. In the morning a warm delicious breakfast was waiting for us downstairs. She had cereal, oatmeal, black and white pudding, and fresh bread. Talk about Irish hospitality! There was practically every kind of Irish food there.
I think everyone should get a chanceto visit The Glen. I would be very surprised if anyone didn't like it. I really enjoyed myself!

The Glen is a beautiful country house owned and operated by Guy and Diana Scott who are the tenth generation to live on the picturesque and expansive property. The house was built in 1860 and is located within a 20 minute drive from Kinsale and the Old Head golf course. We chose to stay here based on their website, location and the fact that it is a real working farm with family accomodations.
Upon arrival at the front gate, we knew we had found a gem. We were warmly welcomed by Guy and Diana to this beautiful home. Diana served scones and hot tea for us as we sat in front of a warm fire and enjoyed the scenery overlooking Courtmacsherry Bay.
The accomodations were superior from the down pillows and comforters to the flat screen TVs. The home was impeccably decorated and recently renovated to a luxurious standard. The Glen wasn't modern by any means but provided every modern convenience with an old world flair.
Our daughters were drawn to the cows and horses on the property and enjoyed the freedom to roam where they pleased. Guy was kind enough to show us around the barn, answer our questions and give us a brief tour of the property.
Our stay at The Glen was a highlight of our wonderful vacation and clearly one of the finest bed & breakfast accomodations in Ireland. We will be back!

An absolutely delightful place to stay. Guy & Diana run an exceptionally welcoming and comfortable B&B. We stayed for one night on a golfing road trip and would have loved to stay longer.
On arrival Diana welcomed us warmly and made tea for us to enjoy in the garden. With a rather delicious slice of homemade cake !
We had made arrangements to eat locally and a kind gesture was made, but declined, for our hosts to collect us should we opt to walk to the restaurant.
Our room was large and comfortable. And breakfast the following morning set us both up for the day ahead perfectly.
If I recall correctly, Diana and Guy are drawing stumps on the B&B offering at the end of September 2016. So, unless I have got this wrong, or they change their minds we won't be allowed a return visit - which we would do in a heartbeat...

Glen Country House is in the perfect location for a quiet getaway. However, Tripadvisor might want to reconsider the Certificate of Excellence they have awarded to this property.
My wife and I booked 3 nights, but after two nights we decided to leave early and informed Mr Scott of this during breakfast. In response to Mr Scott's question as to why we were leaving early, my wife explained she experienced a very uncomfortable night, due to very thin inadequate pillows. Mr Scott's only response that we should have notified him was a surprise to us as he clearly implied it was our fault for not mentioning it. We explained that a search of the house to locate him late at night would not have been the right thing to do. Within minutes Mrs Scott was at our breakfast table aggressively demanding that we provide a list of issues we had. Under pressure we mentioned the limited/transient wifi (which Mr Scott had already told us about) and a couple of other minor irritations, at which point Mrs Scott raised her vocal display from across the room with "i have to charge you the full amount". After taking payment Mrs Scott added the final insult with "my husband was right.... you two are miserable". On arrival we spent a short time talking about the history of the house and the family with Mr Scott. I suggested this was not the right thing to say to paying guests and that she should apologise. After repeated requests she said "ok" and asked me to leave her house. Without any physical contact, I was effectively evicted from the property. So, having paid for all three nights we were prevented from staying the final night. We had expected the usual Irish welcome, as we have experienced on many occasions during numerous holidays in Ireland, but yesterday we witnessed the real Mrs Scott in all her nastiness. It really does seem odd to me that the host/owner, of what is supposed to be a reputable guest house, would exhibit such disrespect to a paying guest. My wife and I are certainly not miserable, but in such situations I suggest Mrs Scott should be mindful that there may be good (medical/personal) reasons why their guest appear "miserable".

Response from Diana S, Owner at Glen Country House
Responded 23 Sept 2016
These people were just looking for a freebie!! They complained about the pillows on the second morning and said they couldn't possibly stay a 3rd night, they should have said something the first morning and I could have offered her a choice of many different types of pillows, but when i suggested this she said she "shouldn't have to ask"....am I a mind reader?? No one has ever complained about the pillows,( they are white goose down and maybe a bit soft for some people), in fact most people comment on how comfortable the beds are!! They hoped I would say how terribly sorry I was and wouldn't charge them for the 2nd night and leave them off the 3rd night, but I called their bluff and charged them for the 3rd night which is quite within my rights! Beware anyone if they come to stay with you as they will find a fault with something hoping to get a freebie!!

We decided to stay at B&Bs during our entire trip to experience the Irish hospitality we've heard so much about. In doing so, we have met so many friendly travelers (some have become friends) and have gotten to know all of our B&B hosts (kind of like staying with family or friends). If you do not enjoy or expect this type of B&B experience, read no more....
Let's start with the pros: The Glen is immaculately decorated and maintained. The breakfast is fantastic. It is very quiet (if you are looking for solitude and peace, this is your place).
Now the cons: If you are looking for a B&B with warm & hospitable hosts (meaning, you enjoy conversing with the hosts and are welcomed at each return from your explorations), this is not the B&B for you. They seemed nice enough, but we felt they just didn't enjoy being hosts. During our stay at the Glen, we only saw Guy and Diana a few times (including the initial greet and good byes).
If we did not want to interact with anyone, then we would have stayed at a hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay here. When we first arrived Diana offered to call a restaurant so we could go get some dinner which I thought was really sweet of her . The property and house are just beautiful. The animals so sweet and friendly, we really loved their morning visits. The breakfast was by far the best we had while staying in Ireland, and the coffee was great as well! I just read on another review that you were closing your doors as a B&B and although I know it must be a really tough business trying to please some people, I really am so grateful to have been fortunate to stay there! I guess a 10 year from now plan to come back to this bed and breakfast won't happen but I wish you both the best! Thank you Guy and Diana. I still wish I got to see and pet one of your cows 😂.

We recently toured Ireland by car, staying in high quality b and b's and guest houses. We even stayed in Ashford Castle. Glen Country House was one of our favorites. The setting and accommodations were flawless. Guy Scott made some excellent dinner reservations and provided a guidebook for lovely hikes.
This is a Wonderful find! Highest possible recommdation.

Having read previous reviews we couldn't wait to arrive at Gen House, we thought that we may be in for a treat and we were not to be dissapointed, a treat indeed !
We were met by Guy and Diana who showed us to our sea view room, one of six all beautifully decorated and equiped on the first floor landing.
After settling in Diana served her very special cream tea on the garden seat in front of the house. The two Glen spaniels Paddy and Chloe kept up the family tradition by giving us a warm welcome (see photo)
Diana's breakfasts are legendry, served in their beautiful dining room across the hall from the residents lounge where they have an honesty bar (nice touch)
Like previous guests we ate at the Pink Elephant just up the road
the young chef came to greet us and talk about his menu, we settled for the local caught John Dorry
Jeffandi.........Nottingham

+1
The Glen Country House is absolutely a dream come true - not a detail is missed here! The Glen is actually located in Kilbrittain, about 20 minutes south of Kinsale. To access the property you drive through a long tree-lined driveway, filled with flowering hydrangeas here and there. The ivy covered country house is situated with the most unbelievable view - acres of pastures, forests and off in the not-so-far distance a view of the bay.
As you enter this hundred-plus years-old building, you are greeted with large vases of fresh cut flowers. The library is warm and welcoming, with shelves of books and large comfortable chairs and pillows.
Our check-in was quick, and they took us immediately upstairs to our family suite on the first floor. One room was for our children - a smaller sized room with bunk beds (a huge hit for my 8 and 10 year olds!), dresser, TV, and windowsill filled with children's books. Through a doorway to the bathroom, which is shared with the parent's suite.
The bathroom was very large and beautifully decorated. A large claw-footed tub, pedestal sink with lots of countertop space above, toilet and separate shower stall. Lots of nice towels, good water pressure in the shower and nice hot water at all times.
The parent's suite was fabulous - large queen bed, with two sets of fluffy down pillows, super comfortable mattress, and large fluffy down comforter. The room also had a dresser, armoire, desk, and wonderfully large windows. Also in our room (as well as our children's) was a vase of fresh cut flowers, as well as bottled water and glasses. Our room also came with a flat screen wall mounted TV which was a welcome touch.
None of the other guests had checked in yet, so we had a chance to peek in the other rooms. All had the fresh flowers and bottled water, big windows, gorgeous views, fluffy pillows and comforters. Most rooms were decorated with "country cottage" type prints - large cabbage roses, plaids, checks, in the reds/roses/dusty pink/green color schemes. Very elegant and classy. Piles of magazines available to read in the hallway - many American favorites such as Country Living, Food & Wine, etc.
They do not serve dinner, but gave excellent recommendations to several nearby pubs. When we got back, we truly enjoyed just sitting outside and enjoying the view.
For breakfast, you are seated in a beautiful dining room done in a wonderfully deep red. Many family portraits line the walls. A cold buffet was set up with chopped fresh fruit, strawberry/rhubarb mix, stewed prunes, granola, cold cereal, juice, etc. They were there like a flash with hot tea and soda bread (the best we had on the whole trip!) The menu has several options, including the full irish, buttermilk pancakes and my personal favorite - french toast with bananas. I'm not sure I can do that dish justice here - but Diana makes it in a special way that gives the french toast a carmelized sugar-type crust to it (similar to creme brulee), and when topped with fresh bananas is simply to die for! The best part - Diana was very generous and shared both her soda bread and french toast recipes with me!!
After breakfast we went outside and met their two dogs - Paddy and Chloe. These two dogs loved the attention, and we loved having a chance to play with such wonderful pets. We spent an hour or more just walking through the "front yard", playing with the dogs and just relaxing.
Fortunately we booked two nights here, so we got to enjoy the wonderful bed linens, flowers, and utter comfort another evening. Breakfast the next morning was even better in that we were the only guests there that day, so we were able to chat more with Guy. He told us more about their farm, about how they entered the B&B business, etc. After breakfast we had to visit with the dogs and took advantage of the gorgeous landscape, while our children took advantage of the tire swing and soccer ball!
Hands down this was the most fabulous place we stayed on our 2 week visit to Ireland. My children still talk about what a wonderful time we had there, and they miss the dogs! I don't know when we will be able to return to Ireland - but if we do we are staying here for the majority of our trip! I can't stress this enough - do not miss this gem of a B&B. After you stay here, everywhere else will pale in comparison!!
