I was quite underwhelmed with this hotel on arrival. Room had no wow factor and overlooked a back street. However large bottles of water were much appreciated in room and beds were very comfortable. Shower was amazing and the Voya shampoos etc. Were fab. Breakfast was nice and lots to choose from. For the price I expected a little more however for such a Central location in a beautiful town you can see why people love it.

We stayed in a family room on first day hotel reopened after lock down. We felt very safe due to the measures taken by staff. The room was spotless and all glasses and extras like the iron etc were left wrapped in the room. Breakfast was table service and staff were very attentive. It was quiet at the hotel so this would need to be managed well as I imagine could be very busy if there were more guests. We used the pool everyday. One way system, sanitiser, signage etc all in place. The location of the hotel is it’s strongest feature. Central and within walking distance of everything in Kinsale. Not all restaurants in the town had reopened but from looking at signs most were due to by early July. Pizza from Bruno’s a must, it was delicious!

Just back from fantastic three night stay in Actons and even with all the strict Covid-19 restrictions we still managed to have what felt a truly luxurious experience.
Our room was well appointed and overlooking the harbour, spotlessly clean and loads of toiletries were supplied.

We ate in the bar one of the nights (booking is recommended due to the current restrictions) and the food was delicious and plentiful...I was stuffed!!
In the mornings when you arrive to the breakfast room, you are seated and breakfast is served directly to you, due to the current regulations there is no buffet but that doesn’t affect your breakfast one bit, if you want more they’ll bring more, the staff literally cannot do enough for you...by the way the breakfast menu is massive, so don’t worry you won’t go hungry here!!

Breakfast can be worked off or an appetite can be worked up in the pool, located handily in the car park just call in book a time and away you go.
For luxury and location there is no better location...we will deffo return.

Had a superior harbour view room which was smaller than expected. Could hear people talking in the room next door (they were very loud). Breakfast was freshly cooked and staff in the dining room were very friendly and efficient. Too many children s lessons in the pool and mother & baby times so didn't get the chance to use it, Location was good and near town centre. Work going on in the hotel and it was very cold.

We stayed for two nights in a family suite which was very spacious and luxurious. We had a double bedroom and a smaller bedroom with two single beds. The bathroom was beautiful with a fabulous shower and bath tub and lovely Voya products. We had a view of the beautiful quaint street behind the hotel which was lined with restaurants and small shops .
The hotel reception was beautiful and staff were welcoming and courteous at check-in. Breakfast was served in the restaurant each morning and had a good selection of food options which was served to your table. All staff wore masks and tables were adequately spaced.
Our only source of disappointment was in relation to the swimming pool. We were advised we had to pre-book pool sessions, however when we tried to book for the first evening we were told the pool was totally full. This was very disappointing for my two children. However due to the glorious weather we were able to go to the beach instead. On the second evening only one slot was available, however when we went into the pool there were only 5 other persons. Similarily on the Sunday morning there were only 4 people in total. I understand that many people may book and not turn up, but this system leads to an inefficient use of the pool.
Overall we had a fabulous stay and would definitely return to Kinsale and stay in Actons Hotel. Our only regret is that we did not book more nights in this Hotel , but will do so in the future.

Dear fussyNewryCountyDown, Thank you for taking the time to let us know of your recent stay in Actons Hotel. We are delighted to read that you enjoyed almost every aspect of your stay. We are disappointed to read about your pool experience and our pool being fully booked up the first night of your stay. As we are in very different times, capacity in our pool as been halved in order to prevent close contact. No shows or drop in family group numbers can have an impact on other guests not being able to get their preferred times which is something that unfortunately cannot be avoided. In future, pre-book your swim times as soon as you can to ensure you receive your preferred swim time and avoid any disappointment. We thank you again and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. In the meantime, stay safe. Kind Regards, Amy Buttimer Sales and Marketing Manager

We have just returned from our superb two night break in Actons Hotel and we really enjoyed it. All precautions were in place due to Covid 19. The staff were friendly & professional. We felt totally safe and the “new normal “was carried out with the minimal disruption to the guests"
I had requested a quiet room with a good view and the room we were allocated was really quiet and it had a beautiful sea view.

Kinsale is a very busy town and traffic is a bit of a nightmare. Such is the price of popularity. However, when many hotels have inexpensively installed barriers do that their residents can easily find parking, I think it’s about time that Actons do so soon! Holidays should be relaxing and whilst the hotel maybe trying to satisfy leisure centre & restaurant customers as well as residents, it isn’t much fun trying to find parking here. The hotel itself handled COVID pretty well with plenty systems & masks in evidence as well as a nicely spaced breakfast room. This is an old hotel so the lift is a tight squeeze and the floorboards creaky. The rooms are small, even the “mid range bay view ones” and ours had no tea/coffee making facilities, fridge or ironing board. Overall a nice hotel with great views in many of the rooms, but at over €400 for two nights mid-week, it is of average value in my opinion.

Dear Joec26, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay in Actons Hotel. We are delighed to read that you were happy with our new COVID systems across our hotel and our spacious breakfast area. We here in Actons can also agree that Kinsale at the moment is quite busy with a vast amount of 'staycations' happening at this time, this can generate a lot more traffic in the town. Our car park is available for all customer use across all facilities of the hotel so unfortunately if we are busy this can at times fill up our car park which we apologise for. Due to the current situation, we have been advised by the IHF to remove any 'touch points' from guest rooms which include, tea/coffee making facilities, ironing board and the cushions and throws but these can all be had on request if needed. We do hope you return again in the future. Thank you again. Kindest Regards, Amy Buttimer. Sales and Marketing

We stayed for 2 nights in May 2022 in room 112. It also was adjacent to a flat rooftop so workers walked by our room window several times during our stay. Room 112 faces the water and had a comfortable king bed. It has no air conditioning and the room was warm when we arrived, but the window opened and it was cool outside so the room cooled off quickly. Kinsale water did not taste good, but the hotel provided filtered large glass bottles of still and sparkling water - which was a nice touch. The room had a physical key, which was a pain to have to carry around. There was no rack to hang damp towels on. Shower pressure and temp were great, but shower drained slow. I was going to make a cup of tea with in room water tea heater, but found the container was still wet from previous guest so opted not to. Reception was very friendly and booked us dinner reservations at restaurants in Kinsale on both nights, Breakfast was good with menu and buffet selection available and not very busy at 8am either morning. Wifi was slow and unresponsive at times especially during a wedding reception at the hotel on evening. Parking is the worst issue with this hotel. It shares a parking lot with a health club and combine this with a wedding reception at the hotel leaves hotel guests no place to park. they will refer you to a nearby park lot or strip center down the street. I was able to circle their lot a few times and found a closer spot when someone left the health club. Overall a good hotel with easy walking to shops and restaurants.

Dear gregar213, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. During the time of your stay our airconditioning units were not commissioned, this would explain why there was workers walking across the flat roof as they were working to get it up and running. Regarding the key, as Actons likes to keep things old school we have continued on with a physical key as it adds character to the hotel, you are advised to leave the key at the reception desk to avoid the inconvenience of carrying it around. We do hope we will get the pleasure of welcoming you back to Actons Hotel, thank you very much for your feedback. Kind regards, Niamh Gannon Sales & Marketing

We & our extended family travelled to Kinsale for the New Year. It was the 1st time that we had stayed there as our late parents came from Cork but we always visited Kinsale after a day at Garrettstown Strand. It holds a special place in our hearts which has been further enhanced by our wonderful stay at the Acton Hotel. The staff are amazing nothing is too small to ask for. I & my husband had the Harbour view room & was well worth the extra as we had a Christmas tree outside our window where lots of family photos have been taken! The bedroom was large and the bed so comfortable. The shower room with its rainfall shower with lovely hot water which was amazing after our dip in the Atlantic on New Year's Eve! Breakfast was buffet styled & cooked to order so we never ate till the evening after it. We are hoping to make this a Family annual event & will definitely be staying there again.

Answer from Patricia H
Perth, Australia48 contributions55 helpful votes
yes It is air conditioned. It is a fairly old hotel and a bit run down so don’t expect to be working as well as in a new hotel. It is one of the social hubs of the town. Very popular for weddings, so quite noisy until 2:00 AM.
