Despite numerous attempts to make contact prior to arrival, telephone and text messages were not answered. This was despite many promises in booking material that they would be on hand throughout to offer assistance. Eventually an email letting me know that the key was in a lock box and code provided. Never saw anyone throughout our stay.

Outside, the building is set in an alleyway with steep steps leading to a park and car park. At night it's dark and a little foreboding (think stairwell in the Exorcist). Despite the summer heat, I didn't feel comfortable opening the windows at night. There is no air conditioning or even a fan, so an uncomfortable night sleep. Parking close can be difficult if the town is busy, so you might struggle to get a spot close by. Be prepared to carry luggage some distance and with pinpointing the actual building.

Room was tastefully furnished but was noisy with other guests coming and going late into the night. Floors are wooden, so the creek and patter of feet is clearly auditable from upstairs rooms. Decided to use kitchen to cook for ourselves. No grater, no sieve, frying pan caked in grease, chipped mug, all making spaghetti carbonara a challenge.

However, the location is good for walking to the town centre, but for the price I expected a better service all round. It promised much but delivered little.

The 'customer service' at The Old Dispensary, both from the property manager (Varun) and the Owner, was appalling. When we mentioned that the room was very hot and asked if a fan could be provided, we were advised there were no fans and the window opened! We also advised Varun that the tv wasn't working, which he acknowledged but subsequently advised this wouldn't be fixed during our stay and no refund would be offered to compensate us for this. We didn't pursue this further whilst staying at The Old Dispensary, but raised the issue again on our return home, as we felt a small refund wasn't an unreasonable request, bearing in mind the property was not offering all the facilities as advertised (and as the weather was so appalling, we really needed a tv in the room). We also mentioned the poor state of the entrance to the property (overgrown bushes and weeds (please see pictures)) and the response we received from the Owner (and I quote this word for word) was:
"TV was not working due to a lighting strike. Can't do anything about forces of nature. The window worked perfectly. The entrance to the property has nothing to do with the comfort of your stay. Please do what you must, rest assured you will not be getting any refund."
Due to this response, the total lack of desire to assist guests and rectify any issues, the broken tv, the lack of a fan and the state of the entrance to the property, I do not recommend this property. There are much better options within Kinsale, that are more deserving of your business.

The old dispensery in Kinsale was clean, bed was comfy, shower room nice and clean. What we had was washed but stained bathroom towels. We spent a fortune on eating out because the manager failed to tell us there was a fully functioning kitchen in the basement. We are gutted about this, he wasn't very friendly, never said hi, kiss your butt, nothing. Such a shame, so wouldn't give him and his company our hard earned money again.

We stayed here for 4 nights for a relaxing break. The other reviews mention the narrow stairs to get up to your room and the fact that there is no breakfast or staff. It’s more like a hostel. But the noise!! There are only 6 small rooms so I don’t understand how they start cleaning every day at 8 am and go on all day till 5 pm. Doors also slam all day and all night and the walls are paper thin we can hear drawers opening and closing in the room next door. There are no curtains so the sun wakes you up at 6 am before the banging and hoovering starts at 8 am. If you need a rest and a break, don’t come here.

The Old Dispensary is a beautiful place to stay. Right in the heart of Kinsale you can walk to town and stroll along the river. A little difficult to find as it is tucked behind other buildings and parking is at a premium along a tiny busy street. No staff on site. Keys are accessed from a lock box. Not really a place for people with mobility issues as the are lots of stairs. Rooms are large and very comfortable. Plenty to see in the area and great places to eat. Charles Fort is a must. A delightful place to visit.

We spent a weekend at the Old Dispensary. While they were helpful before we arrived, our reception was horrible. Shortly after going to our room, we noticed a yellow stain on the duvet. When we asked for it to be changed, we were told that it was impossible and that they had no spare duvet covers. He said that the duvet was clean despite the stains, and that this was not a luxury hotel. We were told that we shouldn't expect our bed linen to be changed.

Eventually, after a very long and heated discussion, the host emerged with a duvet (seemingly from another occupied room) and reluctantly changed the stained item. The host was super aggressive towards us.

This guest house prides itself on a warm welcome, but ours was far from friendly and started off the weekend in a bad way.

Despite all of this Kinsale is really nice and worth a visit.

We stayed here last night for new year s eve, I had looked at review s on here before I got here and I have to say I was expecting the worst. I can't believe how wrong the review s were. This place is in the centre of evening and it is spotless clean and very nicely decorated. I am definitely coming back here.. I had no issues with parking and I don't mind walking up a few steps to stay in the house it's worth every step.

Couldn't access hotel. Owner was unavailable and wouldn't answer phone so we had to book another hotel at double the price at 9 o clock. Then eventually answered an email at half 9 with sarcasm and a complete lack of awareness that he is supposed to be in a industry that involves customer service. We did miss his email stating that check is was between 4-6 but email him at 10-6 to say so. Ridiculous service and poor attitude to have for a "hotel manager". Definitely do not stay here and spend money elsewhere.

Stayed for 2 nights with many many issues.

Broken curtains, but thankfully new shutters.
Vibrating pipes when anyone used a toilet in the building.
Socket hanging off the wall behind tv.
Sagging bed.
One mug in cupboard.
Lots of messages everywhere, don’t use makeup, turn off towel rail, WiFi password written on back of door, etc……
Damp smell in hallway and very untidy.

Location is good, with free on street parking.

Extremely overpriced.

My husband and I are on a 3 week holiday in The Uk and Ireland. We are staying in room 1 . This big beautiful room is my favorite accommodation so far! We have no problem communicating with the host . Opening the front windows and the bath windows makes for a nice breeze. I am not sure what happened with the few negative comments but that certainly has not been my experience 5 stars from me !
