I don’t think any review could really do our stay justice, but this is the least that can be done.

Throughout our stay, the entire staff were incredibly friendly and polite. They did everything possible to make sure our stay was pleasant and really went above and beyond in anything they did, even leaving glasses in the fridge to cool down when we had left during the day, having seen we had brought a bottle of wine with us.

The room has wonderful views from both the windows and balcony and as it’s so close to the beach, you can go at any time of day. It would have been easy to spend an evening watching the sun set over the sea. Even the restaurant, bar and lounge overlook the shore, which made me look forward to eating even more!

The hotel owners seems to have a part of the beach owned privately which is great as you don’t have to deal with crowds of people every time you go down. There’s a small pop up coffee and snack/food shop close to the between the hotel and beach too, which is super handy for picking up drinks or something to eat before heading down to the beach or on a day trip. There is also a “surf school” nearby that children can sign up for for their stay and spend some time cooking off in the sea with qualified instructors.

The food was top notch and at a reasonable price; especially the seafood, with most of it being caught locally and served fresh each day. Even the room service menu was great, I have never seen a choice of food as wide for room service before and made sure to order from it during my stay.

Unfortunately the spa itself wasn’t open when we were there, due to Covid, but the seawater pool made up for it, being as fresh as the sea but with a cover over your head. If going on a family holiday, they even have a time where the pool is reserved for families with children, something I haven’t seen before in a hotel.

You receive a drink when you check into the hotel and a jar of local jam when you leave, which is really tasty! After your room has been cleaned, some chocolates with the weather forecast for the next day are left in your room too. (As someone told the hotel staff that it my birthday while staying, they even left out some goodies in our room just before we checked in, which I thought was very considerate, as they didn’t have to do that at all.)

I honestly couldn’t find a fault during my stay and am looking forward to my next trip there, hopefully soon!

The Inchydoney Island Lodge and Spa is in my opinion the best hotel in Ireland.

The high quality of the food really stands out regardless of whether you are eating in the 'gulf stream' restaurant or the 'dunes pub'. A great addition this year is the 'silver surfer' outdoor catering facility serving pizza, ice cream and pastries.

The hotel itself is extremely luxurious and has been tastefully decorated with many works of art, sculpture and furnishings displayed throughout. The rooms are very comfortable and I really love the large bathrooms generously supplied with a range of Elemis products.

The location of the hotel couldn't be better with a blue flag beach only a few metres away from the doorstep. The views are breathtaking whether you are walking along the beach or sitting in the hotel restaurant looking out the windows.

All my family had a fantastic time at Inchydoney and I couldn't recommend the hotel highly enough.

I went to Inchydoney Island with my partner as a belated birthday gift, and I could not have picked a better place to stay.

We had visited Inchydoney just before the shutdown, and had a wonderful lunch in Dunes Restaurant, so I decided to return to West Cork once the lockdown had lifted.

From check in to check out, the service by staff was top class. We were welcomed with a lovely drink, and then we went to the residents bar for a relaxing drink before heading to our room. We stayed in room 419, and once you enter the room the first thing you see are the breathtaking views of Inchydoney beach. There is a beautiful terrace which is nice to sit out and have a coffee, and look out on the most stunning place in Ireland.

We were given a number of treats from the hotel, including a welcome slate with chocolates, chocolates later in the evening, and a member of staff who was happy to provide whatever we needed for the room!

We went for two swims in pool (along with one in the ocean) during our stay! The pool was very relaxing, and has specific times for children. My partner also had a hot stone massage, which he said was the best one he's ever had.

While it's difficult to pick a highlight our dinner at the Gulfstream Restaurant was definitely it. All of the food was sourced locally, and was insanely good. We had the lobster, and savoured every mouthful of it. Our table was set in the window, looking out on the beach. And while we were in a big restaurant, we felt as though we were in our own private dining area.

The hotel was also felt very safe, with sanitization stations all over, staff adhering to COVID19 protocols, and other guests respecting the 2 meter rule. This layer of safety made the stay even more relaxing in light of everything that has been going on.

I cannot say enough about how wonderful our stay was. It was the most relaxing hotel stay I have ever had, and we will be back again very soon!

My wife and I stayed for one night at Inchydoney at a cost of nearly €300 b&b. The greeting on arrival at reception was fine and we were efficiently directed to our room. On entering we found that a bedside locker was out of position and a half empty bottle of body lotion and a plastic top from a drinks bottle were on the floor. Given the need for enhanced cleaning during the pandemic, this was most alarming. We returned to reception and informed staff. The room was subsequently cleaned and a complimentary bottle of wine and a slate with chocolates on it were left in the room as a gesture of apology. I know I am being picky but the chocolates were uncovered and had been manually placed on the slate by the cleaning staff, even in non-covid times this is un-hygienic and we left them untouched (they may have used gloves, tongs etc.). The same complementary chocolates were left with the turn down service again uncovered on an oyster shell. The room decor was reasonable but did not reflect the price, attention to detail is poor with grubby sealant in areas in the bathroom. Overall one can see that this is a very intensively used hotel with little time devoted to refurbishment. Inchydoney lives on its reputation and location and does not particularly need to please people like me, this is evident from the many favourable reviews. The staff are young and extremely pleasant but despite their courtesy and eagerness to please they lack training and this shows, but then we had arrived from Ballymaloe House so our expectations may have been falsely elevated. We ate in the bar area where the food was good and reasonably priced, the calamari was superb. Overall if money is no object and you are not particularly concerned with the finer details, then Inchydoney should be fine for you. Personally the premises itself did not feel sufficiently special to justify the price.

Dear michaelhE9457VD As you can appreciate, I am disappointed and surprised to read your comments. I am sorry that the locker was out of position and that the bottle top was on the floor. I have mentioned this to our Accommodation Manager, however i can assure you that all of the team are conscious of all our cleaning protocols, especially in the current climate. Also, be assured that gloves are of course used when handling our complimentary chocolates; both by the Chef's who make them and the accommodation team deliver them to the rooms. Yes, our team are a young team, who I am very proud of. We employ many youngsters from the local area every year, many more this year due to the Covid situation. These young people are an important part of our team and a credit to their families. They are young, starting out and due to these times many of them are learning every day. I agree they are extremely pleasant, eager and courteous and I feel privileged to have them begin their working careers with us. Kind regards Des O'Dowd Proprietor

The location and views were stunning but the food and service was also top class, The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout the whole hotel paying attention to detail and making everything very easy for us to enjoy our stay. The food in the bar and restaurant was delicious, would highly recommend the crab crumble and a pint of Murphy's! There were good measures in place to comply with Covid restrictions with all staff wearing facemasks and good spacing of tables in the bar and restaurant. The resident's bar was especially nice for a drink before or after dinner. We liked it so much we added an extra night to our stay which the staff at reception were most helpful in accommodating and even offered us a discount rate. The view from our balcony was beautiful, helped out by the sunny September weather!! Great access to the beach for walks and swims! We will definitely be returning soon.

Booked two interconnecting rooms at this hotel for family of 5 in August 2020. The property is idyllic with stunning views of Atlantic Ocean and direct access to two fabulous sandy beaches. Rooms have been recently updated and are well equipped with luxurious bath robes, nespresso coffee machines, extremely comfortable bedding and generous toiletries by Elemis in the bathrooms. Our rooms were on the top floor and faced south west so we were able to enjoy the late evening sun from our spacious balcony. Glass fronted balconies ensure uninterrupted spectacular sea views.
Dinning options include the Dunes Bar and Restaurant which offers a very broad menu and for a fine dining experience the Gulfstream Restaurant is hard to beat. We thoroughly enjoyed our canapés followed by scallops and seafood trio.
Hotels are unable to offer buffet breakfast due to current restrictions. When we were seated for breakfast each morning staff immediately came to our table with tiered plates of fresh fruit bowels, locally produced yoghurts and a generous selection of breads and pastries. There is also an extensive cooked breakfast menu. Juice refills were delivered with a smile and staff kept checking if we needed anything. Who needs a buffet when table service is this good! Very relaxing...
Use of hotel facilities is by appointment and we booked our slots for the pool. We also availed of the spa treatments which were limited to 30 mims due to Covid Restrictions. The heated sea-water pool is equipped with pressure jets and a session here coupled with long walks in the sea air ensures a deep sleep each night.
I cannot recommenced this hotel highly enough. Staff extremely pleasant and helpful and we Returned home totally relaxed.

Myself and my mum spent 3 extremely enjoyable nights at the Inchydoney lodge and spa as a birthday treat for my mum. I had booked last December and we were really looking forward to it and then COVID-19 hit 😢. We were so sure we were going to miss out this year and were so delighted when the phases were shuffled about and the Incydoney opened in time for our trip.
I’m a bit of a control freak and need to have everything straight in my head before I arrive anywhere. The staff in reservations were amazing. They answered numerous emails sent with succinct answers to probably very silly questions!! The girls in the spa couldn’t have been more accommodating and managed to fit in three treatments each for us on the same day so we could spend at least one day travelling around West Cork. Absolutely everything I asked for I received, fantastic customer service and all this before we left home at all.
We were a little worried regarding how things would be set up to deal with the new normal we are all in, as we had heard stories of people having to have all their meals in their rooms, not being able to use the foyer etc but we went in hope that we would be afforded the best hotel experience possible in the circumstances and to be honest the Inchydoney have nailed this side of thing. As per most establishments meal times had to be booked, (however we did arrive a little early to breakfast on our last day and this was not a problem at all, we had to wait all of three minutes for a table) the foyer is large and in use and it was clear to see that staff were keeping a close eye on things. We spotted the seats being sanitised as soon as a person left the area. There is a lovely residents bar where guests could have drinks at night. The restaurant staff, particularly Kevin and Ava, were fantastic as were the girls in the spa. In fact all the staff were great. All staff were wearing face masks which was great to see but I did feel a little sorry for the girls in accommodation as it was really warm and they still had their masks on while cleaning!! We know this for a fact as we arrived back in our room while the girl was there and the mask was firmly stuck to her face. There were also sanitizer stations available throughout the hotel.
The food was delicious - we had breakfast, dinner in the bar and dinner in the restaurant. We also had sandwiches delivered to the room late one night and they were equally as delicious!
All in all we had a great experience despite all the Covid-19 protocol. We had the hotel experience we expected. We will definitely return at some point and I also intend to suggest a trip to the hubby too.
Well done to all. I hope the management of the hotel realise what a great staff they have working there and treat them accordingly.

If you have never visited this hotel before you are in for a real treat. Unusually this hotel is not part of a chain and is owned by one family. I think this shows in the the overall relaxed and personal service the hotel offers.

I think you can always tell if the management structure works when you see happy staff. Every single staff member we met during our stay seemed happy and eager to make our experience as good as it could be. That is a rare thing and makes such a difference.

Another good test for a hotel is the quality of room service food, time of delivery etc. The Inchydoney passed with flying colors. We stayed for 5 days - 3 days we availed of the restaurant and the rest of time used room service. The quality was equally high.

The rooms are fresh with outstanding views of the ocean. We left the balcony door ajar at night and drifted off to sleep to the sounds of the sea - wonderful.

If you want to relax after our shared covid ordeal then Inchydoney is for you. We felt safe the entire time. All the staff wear masks (poor things) and there are plenty of hand sanitizer stations. All meals, and breakfasts are planned ahead and that works well. You need to book ahead for the pool - but actually it means you often have the pool to yourself or with very few people.

Nothing is too much trouble for the Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa. A big thank you for 5 wonderful relaxing days.

We normally stay in the hotel but this time we booked an apartment for a few days.

Great apartments in a fantastic location with full access to all of the hotel's facilities.

Nicer than the photographs shown online which was a nice surprise.

Great value. I would be happy to pay more. We will be back every year I hope.

I would have given 5 stars but there are a few snags that can easily be fixed + a few that could be kept in mind if replacing anything.

It would be better if the sign explaining how to boost the hot water temperature was outside the hot press rather than inside it.  I didn't see it until after I had a cold shower after my wife had a bath. I was able to finish my shower because there is an electric shower over the bath. The ensuite shower is a power shower which is very good.

Hooks needed inside front door & bedroom doors.

En-suite door needs a lock or bolt.

Extra shelf needed near basin in en-suite.

Cold taps should always be on the right. They aren't in 707 en-suite basin. Mixer taps would be better if replacing.

Demist pads can be fitted behind bathroom mirrors.

Tall fridge freezer instead of under counter model.

As kitchen appliances pack up I'd recommend Aeg or Miele replacements.

It's much better than most places. Normally I have a longer snag list (:

It is spacious. The lighting in the apartment is great for reading. Bed is comfy. There are lots of good things about the apartment.

The staff are excellent & very friendly which is the main thing.

Looking forward to returning.

Disappointed to see this place has gone down hill so much over the years. We have/had been regular customers over the years both staying in the lodge itself on occasions and staying in the self catering apartments also. Hugely underwhelming experience on our last encounter! Rooms out-dated, facilities in the pool, smelly and unkept and the Dune’s bar has the same menu choices but inflated prices year on year! Staff seemed less interested in customers compared to previous years. Regular staff who have been there over the years (I don’t wish to mention individuals name’s) weer clearly disenchanted for some reason. Will consider other options in the area for our next stay this year assuming holidays happen with the current virus lockdown. Maybe Inchydoney could use the down time to re-tile the pool and clean the place!

treetot I note your review and would like to point out that the pool was re-tiled during 2018 as part of the €2.5 million refurbishment programme we have enacted over the past 5 years. You wait almost 12 months since you say you stayed before you posted this review. I find it difficult to believe this is a credible review and wonder about your motivation. We have reported it to Tripadvisor as such. How you choose to spend your time during this very difficult time reveals more about you than you imagine.

There's a spa, saltwater pools, two restaurants, and a residents' bar plus the beach - so if you just want to relax, you don't need to leave. You can explore the island some by foot, but it won't take more than an afternoon. If you want more of a village scene than that, you'd want to drive to Clonakilty.
