Detailed Reviews
Only just saw the sign at the end of the road as nearly covered by tree branches. As we pull up outside thought this is not it, this looks like a small factory unit.
Once round by the beautiful view of the river we found the entrance.
This is a very large and strange house. Some of it old with character some just odd.
Staff all friendly and food average.
Toilet system broken grab rail at wrong end of bath?
After sitting on the chair I carefully got up as it was just about to collapse on me.
This house has a lot of potential.

It may be called Coolcower, but the welcome that awaits you is far from COOL. Its the warmth and kind hospitality that you feel upon entering, which lasts throughout your trip and long after. This is a wonderful house, steeped in time and memories of days gone by....with glorious views and breathtaking scenery, it's one of the very few places I have stayed in that has not yet been 'commercialised,' or should I say 'spoiled?' The accommodation is clean and tidy with wonderful pieces of furniture dottted about from different eras...the breakfasts are warm and hearty, and the many different sitting rooms and bar offer a charm of their own. The view of the lake is superb! Coolcower House and its staff will leave you with an unforgettable experience of the rustic charm of Ireland. Not to be missed!!!
Note: I stayed 3 days B&B, during Feb 2009, for a dear friends wedding. It was a magical, most memorable occasion. Enjoy the photographs!

140€ a shabby and decadent structure. The reception looked like the post office counter, without any operators. Room very small, cold, the bed was less than a square and a half, old and dilapidated furnishings, small bathroom, the shower tray did not let the water drain and after 3 minutes of shower flooded the whole bathroom and those who came after me had to wait an hour for me to dry on the ground. Washbasin with cap that did not return so that even the sink was filled. Breakfast passable. In short, a nightmare. Stay away from this facility.

The room was not clean. There were cobwebs in every corner. There is mold in the bathroom. The hotel urgently needs to be renovated! The hotel is also very noisy! If someone in the next room comes up with the idea of taking a shower at 10:30 p.m., it sounds like you are sitting in the shower with them. The prices are completely excessive. The photos on the website only have something to do with reality in the best light!
The staff is friendly. The location is actually perfect. That would be one point.

Enjoyed our stay in a beautiful room overlooking the river. Very picturesque setting. It was refreshing to stay in a house with an interesting quality interior and furnishings. Beds very comfortable, room quiet. Hostesses very friendly and knowledgeable on the history of the property. Very good breakfast. Well located outside Macroom which is an interesting town to visit.

The house overlooks the River Lee with Boating and Coarse Fishing on the waters edge. Wonderful and charming turn-of-the-century home. Very large with many rooms, bar, sun room, breakfast area, sewing/sitting area, etc. We bought a bottle of wine in town, and Evelyn did not mind at all. She brought us out wine glass and a bottle opener. The bar opens later in the evening for local regulars and house guests. Mary cooks the breakfast in the morning, and does a great job sharing the history of the Coolcower House. Watching the sunset over the river, drinking a few glasses of wine made for an absolutely perfect evening. Make time to walk the grounds. It's really like going back in time. Enjoy. (p.s. do not expect any modern technology.)

You owe it to your vacation to live at the Coolcower House during your stay. My wife and I were there for seven days, but left thinking we had "lived " there. Evelyn and Mary will be your favorite "Aunts", taking care of all your needs, from fresh home-cooked breakfast to bed-time tea. Dan and John, longtime local patrons of the in-house "pub", will be your tour guides to the real Irish experience. After a day of sightseeing, we actually looked forward to getting back "home" to tell of our travels, and we were never disappointed by their reception. The view from the house overlooking the river is really very comforting and gives the feel of a true countryside home. The gardens and grounds were very well manicured, as was the rest of the house. We really felt at home and were treated like family. We had many hours of discussions and received a great deal of Irish history from both Evelyn and "Dan the Encyclopedia". The food was far more than we expected and carried us through the day until dinner time. The in house lounge has the feel of an Irish Pub. We usually went down around 10:30 pm. and stayed until after 1 a.m., my wife having tea and I my usual custom made cocktail. We enjoyed our stay so much it took us 45 minutes to say goodbye, as we really were going to miss them. The location is great for your home base since most sights are about an hour in all directions. We would like to thank everyone at the Coolcower House for their sincere hospitality and left with a real sense of pride in Ireland. A great stay in every way!!

Coolcower lived up to our expectations. My mom and I spent the first 4 nights of our vacation with Evelyn and Mary. The view was the best of our travels, the setting was tranquil and relaxing, the food was excellent, and the location was perfect for touring West Cork and Kerry. Evelyn was very kind and eager to meet our needs. Her hospitality started off on the morning of our arrival — we had an overnight flight that landed at 9:00 a.m., and she graciously had our room ready for us when we arrived at 11:00 that morning. We received several suggestions from Evelyn and Mary, and we were never disappointed by the places they recommended. We opted for the package that includes dinner, and it was wonderful to have dinner waiting for us at the end of each day. The food was delicious, and she was very willing to make whatever we requested. The only issue we had is one that applies to many places in Ireland, and that is the room was rather cool and damp. She generously provided a space heater, though, which helped to take the chill and dampness out of the room.

This is a lovely place and a glimpse of the true Ireland. We always stay full board, the food and atmosphere cannot be bettered anywhere. Evelyn and Mary are wonderful hosts and everything runs like silent clockwork. If I could I would stay here forever and likely live to be 100.
