We had a car when we visited here also. Although the owner encouraged us to walk into town, we were tired from all the walking that day so we used our car. It is walk-able into town about 1/2 mi to edge of town, about 1 mile to get to downtown. Looking at a map it seems to be ~ 1.5 miles to train station. How much do you like to walk with bags? Might want to inquire about a taxi from the owners, they are very helpful. Train from Dublin to Boyle (on the Silgo route).
