Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The hotel was OK. Very limited staff. Service was very disappointing. Dinner was booked for 7.45. Nobody came near us until I asked at 8 20 and eventually got seated. Food was disappointing. I asked for no garlic and med to well done steak. Veg and potato gratin came out in one bowl.steak has blood coming out of it . Very slow service in bar. Cooked breakfast was lovely but limited options

We spent two nights in the beautiful ice house hotel Ballina on the setting of the Moy River. This was our first visit and we were very impressed. From the warm welcome by Mathew who had facilitated an early check in on the afternoon of our arrival. The food is of a very high standard and was consistent throughout our stay . Staff are all genuinely engaging and friendly. We had wonderful sleep s which was one of the prime purposes of of our visit ie. To rest and relax. Only tiny quibble was my wife who loves a cup of tea felt the coffee maker with its way of creating hot water was not suitable as a tea maker as something happens to the water when heated as it suits just coffee! The addition of a small kettle would solve this issue. We look forward to returning for more sleep s !

One of my mother's favourite sayings is to buy good 'n dear and you'll get what you pay for. Worth every cent our one night break at the Ice House was full of quality, great service and enjoyment from start to finish. We arrived to a smiling reception and never met an unhappy member of staff throughout our stay.- there's something good in the calming waters flowing past the Hotel. It's the little things. Smiling staff everywhere. Spotlessly clean everywhere Great service from everyone Welcome note from mgt Chocolates for our anniversary Excellent Spa and facilities Excellent food and cocktails Free newspaper in the morning No panic getting us out in the morning On and on and on it goes. We'll be going back without a doubt. Try it yourself. My mother was right and The Ice House is worth every penny.

Recently stayed here for our anniversary weekend. Overall, we had a lovely relaxing weekend and couldnt fault anything. Our room was spacious, very comfortable, very clean and the view over the river was stunning. Food was amazing! We had breakfast delivered one morning and went down the next and on both occasions hot food cooked to order. We had dinner on one evening which was exceptional from start to finish. Service was fantastic. All staff were super friendly and helpful. When they found out at dinner it was our anniversary they brought out a lovely selection of desserts with a sparkler for us to celebrate. The bar staff were so lovely also and were really engaging when he had some drinks after dinner. We used the spa for a few hours on one day. Our treatments were brilliant, felt so relaxed and pampered. The thermal suite is great, my only negative though was there was not a great sense of calm and quiet with groups and occasional staff chatting a normal volume rather than creating a tranquil enviornment. Would definitely recommend staying here though. We had a wonderful weekend.

After a lot of anticipation after such glowing reviews from friends. We have just left the hotel and we were sad to find it mediocre at best and not 4 stars. When we arrived our room was not ready and so we were told we could have lunch if wanted and that they had 1 booking left. We declined this but said we'd head for the bar. We were directed towards the restaurant but weren't informed that the bar was in the middle of the restaurant. After eventually finding the small and dark bar we ordered drinks. My partners guinness was horrific and he took one sip and he asked for a different drink and it wasn't good. Our room was lovely albeit a bit on the small side but lovely views of the river Moy. We didn't eat here the first night but came back for a night cap. Breakfast the next morning. It was a bit of a wait to get seated and I found dirt from the dried flowers in the milk which was replaced quickly once mentioned. The sausages were nice although the poached egg was runny and a bit soggy. In the afternoon we had a couples massage booked. We used the thermal spa for an hour before the treatments. Found it a bit strange the hot tubs are not closed off from the main road and found it strange people would be looking down at you. The aroma room was lovely. We spent most of the time here. When it came to our massage i found it disappointing. Even though I had asked for a firm massage due to work stress. I wasn't expecting it to be that uncomfortable resulting in a very painful back. Dinner last night didn't live up to our expectations either the starters were lovely but the mains not so much. We went to the bar after dinner And ordered a couple of drinks one which when the barman tried to pour it for us it slipped through his fingers and spilled all over the table and my clothes and he was more concerned with the table and the spillage then me being soaked... We woke up this morning and discovered that they had popped the bill through the door with a note saying that they would charge the card on the room at 12 whether we liked or not. So we paid before 12. Breakfast this morning and I tried to improve on my soggy egg from yesterday and I asked for it to be slightly firmer. It was hard After the expectations of an amazing hotel stay to the reality. Safe to say it didn't live up to the expectations that family had said about it. I would say the reception staff were very professional and helpful especially Mathew who went above and beyond for us.

Really wanted to try the spa and pay the hotel a visit after getting countless recommendations. Rang the morning we wanted to go and got swiftly booked in with no problems at all. Was €40 pp with access to the thermal suite (all the spa facilities). This alone I thought was great value for money considering the amazing quality of the facilities available. Staff were attentive and gracious upon entry and we felt very welcome. We didn’t book any treatments but aim to do so in the future. I must add that mark in reception was a delight both on the phone and in person. Really welcoming ! Had lunch in the on-sight restaurant as well. Both myself and my partner agreed it was a great menu, fantastic selection and reasonably priced. Staff were fantastic, prompt and professional. David and Laura were brilliant. Food was of a good quality and tasty. Fantastic place to spend an evening and aim to come back for an overnight trip

I stayed at the Ice House midweek in August. The hotel and dinner was lovely. I ws there for my 40th birthday with my husband, leaving our two toddlers for the first time. Unfortunately I had such a negative experience when at the hotel's thermal suite that left me very upset. I was in the hot tub casually chatting to ladies in there. A member of staff came over asking us to keep our voices down as people were having treatments. This is totally unacceptable, we were chatting and laughing. It made me feel awful and very unwelcome. I left shortly after as the experience was so negative. A hot tub is a social place, people are going to talk and laugh, as they should. You also pay e25 extra per person to use the hotel's thermal suite. I was glad I was leaving that morning because of this encounter and I felt very upset leaving the hotel because of it. I was going to book a couple of nights for my mother's birthday, but wont be doing that now as I couldn't face another encounter like that again. I wouldn't recommend the hotel to others either for this reason. It's very disappointing and totally dampened the stay and the occasion I went for. I emailed the hotel TWICE to complain about this and was reassured management would contact me and nobody ever did. It's just not good enough.

We stayed in the ice Hotel for 3 nights and enjoyed our stay The panoramic view of the River from the bedroom window was simply amazing. We had dinner one night and it was very good with excellent friendly service However I thought the breakfast could have been better, the service was poor and very slow. The bar area is not very inviting and we had to walk through the restaurant to get to it, it had no atmosphere The spa was wonderful as were tbe treatments we got

My wife and I have a very special relationship to the Ice House. It is a very special place for us and we stayed there a couple of times including our honeymoon. We always felt the magic this place sent out! Unfortunately this year was slightly different. Yes, the view from the bed over the Moy is still unchallenged. And yes, the service is still outstanding. But in some way the feeling of family and coming home is gone. Even worse, the quality of the restaurant is still high but no longer outstanding as we experienced it before. We dearly hope that good old times will come back in future!
