Detailed Reviews
Very good place to stop if on a touring holiday by car. Plenty of car parking space and a fuel station over the road. Short and pleasant walk into town.
Needs a bit of a revamp, hence the three blobs, but all works. Staff friendly, cannot fault the cleanliness and although we only had breakfast, perfectly fine.
The hotel does cater for coach parties but no worries you're not forgotten and treated as any guest would expect.

My friend and I spent a lovely evening here on the last nighf of June. Nicola and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. We topped off the evening with a river walk to the Quay via the river cycle path which is very near the hotel where we had a wonderful meal in Croquette's. Highly recommend this whole experience if you staying in Ballina.

Good menu but sadly every meal was only warm and served on cold plates with slow dining room service. They just did not have enough staff to serve the guests, the one's they had were very polite. Very old TV's in bedrooms and poor quality picture. Manager blamed Brexit!! An accident due to poor safety standards occurred and waitress was very helpful offering first aid dressing, This had to be reported on an accident form. The owner never even checked or apologised for the incident which was clearly there responsibility. Photo's were taken.

We stayed here for 4 nights on a coach tour to the area. The owners were so welcoming, with the rest of the staff obviously trained to be the same. Nothing was too much bother for them and they seemed to enjoy working there as a team.
The choice and standard of meals was excellent, beaten only by the taste. We have gone to restaurants and had poorer meals, never mind coach tour hotels. The standard at breakfast followed the evening meals with good choice of hot and cold food available. The rooms were clean and tidy with comfortable beds and plenty of wee extras and good showers. There was even entertainment laid on for us 3 out of the 4 nights with prizes for an excellent quiz delivered by the host himself. Overall we couldn’t fault the Downhill and would happily return.
The location of the hotel was perfect for our holiday with the attractions we were to visit under an hour’s travel and what a selection of places to visit! We went to Knock Shrine, Westport and Sligo and were impressed with all 3. Had we been there longer we would have had more of a chance to explore Ballina itself as it looked like a place worth visiting.
Give it a try - I’d be surprised if you didn’t enjoy it as much as we did. Thanks all at the Downhill Inn.

Really lovely hotel, made great by the staff. Whilst it’s a bit dated it’s good value for money, a breakfast far tastier than many 4*s and rooms a comfortable size for a family of four. The staff went above and beyond and met our every need. Short walk to ballina’s best playground and the food options both at the hotel and nearby are fab

We have just left a one night stay at the Downhill Hotel. We booked last minute bed and breakfast. We were greated by a lovely man who gave us our room key and booked us for our dinner.
Room was clean has tea coffee facilities. We had a double and single in our room. Room temperature was just perfect. Bathroom was clean with a bath and shower.
The hotel has a restaurant and bar. We had dinner there. Food was really good. Our order was taken by a lovely young man, would loved to have had his name as he made our stay. We also met him the next morning bringing out luggage.
Breakfast was really good. We stayed in a 5star hotel during the summer and I can honestly say the breakfast and service at the downhill hotel is way better than the other hotel.
The man at breakfast was very attentive and nothing was any trouble he made sure we had everything we needed. And made sure everything was ok.
We would recommend this hotel and we will definitely return for our quick getaways over the winter.
Overall the Downhill hotel has fantastic staff. Each one we had contact with were lovely.

As we were meeting friends & family in Ballina, we decided we would book into the Downhill Inn because we had never stayed before. We discovered later that it was a very good choice for a variety of reasons. Every aspect of Covid 19 procedures were in place which made us feel very comfortable from the outset. There was ample secure parking & our registration was promptly processed by a very friendly gentleman at reception. We asked for & got a room on the ground floor near reception. Our room was bright & spacious with lots of channels on the smart TVs. Initially it was our intention to dine elsewhere but having looked at the hotel menu, we decided to stay put. It proved to be a good decision because the food, the service & the ambience did not disappoint. We will look forward to staying there again on our next trip to Ballina.

I stayed at this family run hotel for a one night get together with friends from college. We all received a warm welcome from John (the proprietor) on arrival and enjoyed the banter with him at the bar during the afternoon. The rooms were spacious clean and very comfortable and very reasonably priced. Both my friends and myself thoroughly enjoyed the late night banter and laughs with Krystjan who is a credit to the hotel. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and the service was excellent. Next time I'm in Ballina I'll be coming back here.
As a person who works in hospitality, I would like to say thank you to John and Krystjan for making our stay extra special.
Wishing you guys a great season!

We stayed at this hotel with a group of adults. The owners were extremely rude. There was problems with their electrical wiring and they were trying to blame us. We had convertors, but still blew a fuse. The owner yelled saying we were going to have to sleep in the dark. After a few hours, power was restored.
The breakfast was the smallest Irish breakfast and the food was terrible.
The hotel was clean and the staff was pleasant except for the owners. The husband and wife were both extremely rude. We were on an 11 day trip and this was the only hotel we encountered a problem.

Thanks for your review, your converts we’re substandard, and didn’t comply with EU safety code. Converters should have the CE stamp. We were delighted to restore the power so quickly for the other guests too that suffered the power outage

I showed up without a reservation, but they had rooms available!
The price wasn't bad (75 Euro including breakfast for a single).
The room was big and clean, the bathroom actually had a bathtub, and had the best water pressure for a shower I had on the entire visit.
Breakfast the next morning was a full Irish as well.
Staff was friendly and helpful.
