Detailed Reviews
Mount Falcon is a classical castle of the 1880s. The rooms are a bit newer but still finely appointed. Wide hallways lead to rooms with high ceilings and large windows. The bed is very comfortable. The bathroom is large with a shower and a separate large tub. It is a experience one will not soon forget.

An absolutely gorgeous hotel, on a secluded estate!
The Wallpool suite was a real treat, and the absolute highlight of the rooms we stayed in on our honeymoon getaway. Comprising a separate lounge, office area, bedroom and bathroom, this was the most spacious of any suite we have and likely will ever stay in. The standalone bath summed-up the luxurious, old-school feel of the suite, and hotel in general.
The owners and staff were very accommodating and helpful, with the reception process and stay throughout feeling especially 'Covid safe.'
We particularly enjoyed dining in the giant marquee, which the hotel have set-up for this season. The food was great, and the experience perfect for a summer's evening.
We hope to one day return...!

We stayed the first weekend when the hotel opened after Covid. The entire estate is maintained meticulously and you can see they have spent the lockdown working on the estate - it was pristine. We took a lodge which gave us great flexibility and we liked the location and decor (New England - kinda timeless). It was clear that a huge amount of thought had been put into the marquee, the BBQ and Covid safety. It might not be to everyone's taste (buffet style rather than table service), but if you are heading with a family, the marquee creates a lovely community centre to the hotel. Guests gather there for coffee/food during the day. We found all the staff really friendly (Zach and Izzy stood out). The falconry and the fishing were something unusual to do, and there were loads of kids the same age as our own, so they were happy. The breakfasts were really good, and while the service was a bit patchy, it felt like that was just due to the reopening and everyone remembering their roles again. Aoife on reception also went above and beyond by posting my daughter's coat back to me (which she'd abandoned in the marquee). Overall really enjoyed our break and would recommend it. Found everyone really friendly.

We have stayed previously here and always were impressed. Not this time. Good points are the beautiful setting and location and the range of activities available. However the service is disappointing. We appreciate services are difficult in these times of Covid but we are staying at home for our summer holiday as advised, and traveling to different locations, allowing a direct comparison of hotels. Mount Falcon does not compare well to our other experiences. A large outside tent has been provided to provide entertainment and food and drinks. The music/entertainment area should have been placed in the central area and tables around it. If you were at far end of tent you would be unaware there was any live music. The bar is very limited despite being larger than most pubs. Only 4 types of beer and they were unable to make any cocktails other that the 2 specials. Food is BBQ style and while good, is it worth €40.00 per person considering what you could get in a restaurant for same price.
Breakfast was a disaster. Not enough staff, tables not being cleared causing delays, had to ask 3 times for glass of water, had cereals and juices but no bowls or glasses to put them in, toast brought out but no butter, and food quality very poor. Also no staff at breakfast wore masks in comparison to other hotels we stayed in recently. It seemed like they were understaffed and poorly trained. Overall a poor experience and poor value.

We spent 5 days at Mount Falcon in early August. The main building is basically strict when I comes to Covid-19. The thing is that the big BBQ tent where all the food is served is a free for all when it comes to social distancing and the usual basic hygiene procedures we’ve all become used to.
The food was repetitive and quite basic to the point of being completely predictable and repetitive if you happen to be staying for more than 2 nights. It seems the locals are availing of the chance to let their hair down at a €20 BBQ and a drink thrown in, after a while it’s like a wedding event in a marquee rather than a hotel dining facility to help combat COVID-19.
All in all it was quite basic and certainly not in keeping with the marketing blurb, bit like a hostel with nice beds at this time. Perhaps businesses need to be enterprising to survive this pandemic and that’s understandable, but it shouldn’t be to the point that patrons are put at risk considering the efforts we all are going through to help prevent COVID-19 spread.
On 2 evenings we decided to eat and leave the tent ASAP to avoid the guard dropping crowd after a few drinks were consumed.
I hope Mount Falcon takes notice.
I’ve stayed there twice before and the experience was completely different, so I’m prepared to put this free fall drop in standards down to the current circumstances. But they must up their game in marshalling and enforcing social distancing and hygiene measures in the big tent for the sake of everyone.

Large family week away - stayed in courtyard lodges which were great for kids and all the families..
Driving range great, walking areas and in good location for visiting all areas
Tent was a great idea but few issues, €40 expensive for what you get at premium bbq, only allowed up once & not great selections.
We eat out one day and me & wife went tent at 10pm to have a drink but refused as didn’t eat there, I know Covid has changed things but we were residents with 7 lodges between us, asked for pizza but kitchen closed, couldn’t even get a drink to sit outside on hotel benches, tent was near empty - ridiculous
Service in the tent was bad too, 25 mins waiting on a round of drinks!! Staff were lovely apart from the managers but service was very very slow
Swimming pool closed, so we stopped off in a different hotel on way home for a night to use pool for our disabled child
Wouldn’t be rushing back

Response from Mount Falcon, Sales at Mount Falcon Estate
Responded 12 Aug 2020
Hi FoxyDublin37, Thank you so much for taking the time to give us your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you did not have an entirely positive experience with us. Unfortunately, due to the government regulations, we are not allowed to serve alcohol without the purchase of food. We completely appreciate how frustrating this is, for both our guests and our staff here at the hotel. If you would like to discuss these issues further, please do not hesitate to contact us directly on: gm@mountfalcon.com Warmest Regards Mount Falcon Management Team

Went for lunch. Hot drinks served in takeaway cups (at a 4 star??). Brisket had to be hunted for like a Where's Wally, amongst a downtrodden sweet potato. Soup tasted like a cheap mix. Definitely not worth the asking price. No spoons/sticks came with the paper cup tea to stir in provided sugar sachet (it wasn't busy).
To be fair, the desserts were alright... probably made elsewhere.
The staff were friendly but felt like a this is my summer job and nobody really trained me well kind of situation. Just that they were told to be pleasant. Overheard one being asked about baby changing facilities - the staff member did not know if the hotel had any (4 star??).
Grounds are nice but whole place has a feeling of an "okay" 3 star that stumbled onto a decent location. The cafes at both the Woolen Mills and Belleek Castle absolutely destroy this place in terms of lunch quality and value for money.

Our family stayed at Mount Falcon for a week in one of the self catering cottages. The grounds are beautiful ,really well maintained and we loved the walks through the woods. Its a very peaceful spot .As mentioned by other reviewers the hotel has invested in a beautiful tent which certainly looks the part.Unfortunately the service in the tent was very disappointing ,and having BBQ food every night does seem unimaginative..The heating for the tent was on the blink the week we were there so it was quite cold..The overall experience was a three star one on this occasion .Things are hard at the moment and the hospitality industry are having it tough so allowance has to be given for this. With a few small tweaks Mount Falcon would get a better review than this.
1.Improve the service in the tent(better supervision of the team)
2.Improve the food offering in the tent.(we are putting away our BBQ at home after that week)
3.Ensure the heaters are working in the tent.
4.Make the customer feel that they are actually at a 4 star resort because they are certainly paying 4/5 star prices..

Lakeside lodge extremely dark and dull inside. Lights on all day and still felt gloomy. Beautiful sunshine outside but you can't tell from inside. Nowhere to sit outside any of the lodges. Only outside seating on the estate is at the marquee where you buy food and drinks. Overpriced BBQ and entertainment on Wednesday consisted of a man singing to backing music from 7-9pm and then a kids movie!! We stayed for a week but housekeeping midweek would have cost extra €100. We did complain to the manager but all he had to say was "Thanks for the feedback". My recommendation is go somewhere else!

Just returned from a week long stay in the Mount Falcon estate. Our accommodation was located in the courtyard, the house was nice, had all the essentials & the WiFi was good. The grounds are lovely and well maintained.
The marquee sits nicely beside the hotel& is an excellent idea but it’s an opportunity missed.
On our first night our party of 4 adults & 6 children booked into the bbq, to be honest we barely had any of the food as it wasn’t nice and very expensive, we tried the bbq again one other night when there was no entertainment and while the food was better was not worth €20 for a bbq. Which is why I said it’s an opportunity missed, if there was a nice variety of food ( as no one is going to eat bbq every night of their stay ) at a reasonable price the families would book in for more nights.
Also not having the gym & swimming pool open is strange & puzzling.
Gyms & pools are allowed to be open, I have stayed in hotels since lockdown that have their pools & gyms open, ok you have to book a time but they are still open. So don’t understand why mount falcon don’t open the pool & gym.
So what could have been a lovely week long stay in Mount falcon was in reality a lovely week long stay in Ballina & Enniscrone.
As the title says “Opportunity missed”

We stayed in the hotel, but I imagine it depends how you book,self-catering or other
I'm afraid not on site; however there are numerous options in Ballina which is only 3 miles up the road. Alternatively some of the saloons will come out to do hair at an extra cost.
Absolutely...that's why our estate has over 30 lodges for family rentals, a 17 meter indoor heated pool with baby pool, kids club during peak season, a forest playground, archery, fishing, falconry and a lake filled with rainbow trout and sporting the fattest ducks in Mayo ( from being feed bread from the kids ! ) we even have lodges that take the family dog !
I know we were able to at the time of the wedding but I would double check with the hotel prior to booking just to be sure
