If you expect real Irish hospitaly and friendship, you will find it in MáirÃn's and Gerry's B&B Drom Caoin. We were there three times and hope to get back in 2006. It feels like coming "home" to our Irish friends. The rooms are great and so are the two appartements for self-catering. The garden is a jewel and full of lovely flowers. The breakfast is delicious (fresh salmon from fisherman Gerry was one of the highlights!). Belmullet is a nice little town and the Mullet Peninsula has everything you need for a wonderful holiday. The family provides any help to find the most exciting places on the peninsula and the Barony of Erris. We got everything we needed to feel comfortable and wished, we could stay forever.

This wonderful B&B, and the town of Belmullet, will make you feel completely welcome. Maureen (I can't write the gaelic with this computer) and Gerry are friendly, welcoming and helpful. After a particularly weather-filled round of golf, we came home to a lovely and warm peat fire. The dramatic, historic and beautiful land west of Belmullet is a great drive and walk in any weather. Highly recommended on all counts.

We, the Fitter family from Dubai recently spent a most memorable week in Belmullet and we had the good fortune to stay at Drom Caoin. Our stay was made all the more enjoyable by the magnificent fresh and home grown wholesome food served up by our hostess Maureen Maguire-Murphy. If there was a rating system for B & Bs, then we would rate Drom Caoin in excess of five star. While the adults in our family were spoilt with every meal, our four children - triplets plus one - were equally spoiled with a variety of food and treats which we never saw them eat before. Quite apart from our excellent accommodation and food we thoroughly enjoyed all the other recommendations made by Maureen and Gerry. We enjoyed our greatest golfing experience at the spectacular Carne golf course, where pars are pretty rare but nonetheless very enjoyable. We also enjoyed the beautiful scenery in the surrounding areas, the walks we had on the traffic free roads and the 'Craic' in the pubs in the town of Belmullet. All good things must come to an end and so it was with our stay at Drom Caoin but in our case it is a temporary end as we will be back there again as soon as time permits. We just hope that in the meantime not too many people will hear about the west of Ireland Gem. So looking forward to our next trip. Sharin and James plus Liam, Ned, Niamh and Oonagh Fitter

My wife and I had a large room that was more like an apartment, including kitchen, two small sofas and views to the sea. Be sure to ask for one of the two apartment-style rooms. Mairin, the owner, is a funny, engaging hostess, and a great cook. She even waited up til midnight to take delivery of my late-arriving golf clubs.

I read so many great reviews of Drom Caoin on tripadvisor that I decided to book it. My fiance and I wanted to go walking in the NW and the walk we chose is closest to Belmullet. While Belmullet seemed to have many B&Bs, I have no doubt that Drom Caoin is the best. We had a lovely room with a kitchen and bathroom. Our bed was clean and neatly made. The room we stayed in was bright and friendly. Our hostess, Mairian, made every effort to accomodate us. She showed us walks and gave us tons of direction. She was a friendly and generous hostess. We really loved our stay! Belmullet is a quickly developing town. The views of the ocean are somewhat ruined by the new holiday houses going up, but on the whole it did not bother us. It is nice to see Ireland doing so well financially. Enjoy!

I stayed at Drom Caoin for two nights, and I can't recommend the place more highly. I had a large and well-furnished apartment to myself with fresh brown bread and tea waiting for me, along with wireless internet access... a great value.
What I'll remember most about Drom Caoin, though, is the hospitality of Mairin and Gerry Murphy. My bus from Dublin was late, and ended up stranding me in Ballina, an hour from Belmullet, at 11pm. Mairin and Gerry were more than happy to drive down and rescue me.
The next morning, I played a round of golf with Gerry at Carne, reputed to be one of the best links courses in the world... Gerry lent me a full set of clubs, shoes, and his company for 18 holes.
The following day, Mairin helped me plan out a walking trip on the beautiful Belmullet peninsula. Gerry drove me miles out, next to the incredible cliffs at Doonamoe point. The walk back was classic Irish countryside.
Overall, my trip to Belmullet was one of the most memorable I've had in Ireland, and that's due in large part to the wonderful people at Drom Caoin.

My wife and I spent one night at Drom Caoin while traveling with another couple through western Ireland. The B&B is located just outside of Belmullet and was easy to find. It took us approximately 10-15 minutes to walk from Drom Caoin to the center of Belmullet.
There was a slight room issue when we arrived at the B&B but MáirÃn was still able to accommodate the 4 of us with 2 rooms. My wife and I stayed in a Double Room on the first floor (room 2) The furnishings were standard and the room had an adjoining bathroom with shower. The room was very clean and while my wife thought it was a little chilly, we were both comfortable through the night.
There is also a sitting room available to guests. I believe it had a stereo and TV but our group used it to sit by the fire and chat. The room was very cozy and a nice feature.
Breakfast was served in the dining room and featured a variety of fresh fruits and cereals. Then you have the option of a full Irish breakfast or you can create your own meal with parts of the Irish breakfast. Our breakfast was cooked to order.
The feature that puts this B&B over the top is the proprietor. MáirÃn is about as good as they come when it comes to hosts. She was always pleasant to chat with and was full of suggestions for dining in town and touring the western part of the country. We were driving from Belmullet to Shannon and she had recommendations for several options along the way. She was responsive to emails during the booking process and very accommodating during our stay. Our group couldn't say enough nice things about MáirÃn. You can tell she takes a genuine interest in her guests and enjoys the hospitality aspect of her business.
Drom Caoin was the second B&B we stayed at during our trip to Ireland and it provided everything we would expect from a B&B experience. The Double Room was cozy and very clean. The sitting room and dining room were great and the host was top notch. We would stay at this establishment again if traveling through Belmullet.

Marin and Gerry were very welcoming. Marin provided plenty of information for some sights to see around the area when I had to postpone a golf round due to weather plus provided map to help us navigate. Marin also went above and beyond to arrange my being able to access the golf course the next morning before regular tee times started so I was able to get my round in-what a treat!

An excellent B&B - facilities very clean and well attended to. Hosts Mairin and Gerry are attentive and readily share their local knowledge. As participants in village life, they can assist with local planning and involvement in local events. Food is ample and tasty. The decoration is tasteful and well maintained. The friendly hosts will assist in any way they can- coffee, information or good company. The sitting area was comfortable and well provided with coffee/ teas facilities

As far as I am concerned, a B&B should be comfortable, clean, convenient and offer a hearty breakfast and a warm fire in the evening. Drom Caoin easily satisfies those criteria. When you add the human factor of the proprietors of Drom Caoin, you have someplace special indeed. Mairin and Gerry are professional and efficient for sure, but their genuine love of their endeavor and enjoyment of their guests is what sets this B&B apart. It sounds trite, but I felt like a friend during my stay. If you want experienced and interesting proprietors who truly welcome you into their home, I unequivicaly recommend that you enjoy a few days here.
