The Milltown House is a beautiful property located just minute by foot from the idyllic little town of Dingle. The property itself is very large and sits on a beautiful little bay. The rooms are large and well appointed- it’s an older property and is very authentic and charming. The property owner is a well know Ireland tour guide and so if you have a question, he will have the answer. He’s very friendly and loves talking with fellow travelers. The whole staff is very friendly and helpful. We only stayed for two nights but could easily have stayed for a very relaxing week. Dingle is located in a very beautiful part of Ireland, away from the big cities but loaded with Irish charm. Would highly recommend a visit to Dingle and the Milltown House!

We had such a lovely stay at Milltown house. The host was quick to respond on any enquiries and we used their taxi recommendation of John O’Connor which was fab. The breakfast was great - very filling but during low season it’s more of a brunch style breakfast. But we personally really enjoyed it! This place has got lots of character and history for those interested to explore their Irish roots etc. The most wonderful thing about this place is the coziness of the rooms - tick cozy duvet, comfortable bed, espresso machines, jacuzzi baths and spacious. Lastly, the staff was so kind and helpful in all matters and their dogs are just gorgeous! Will definitely stay here again!

Milltown House is a fantastic guesthouse right on the edge of Dingle town, a short walk to the centre it's location ensures constant tranquillity with the hustle and bustle only a moment away. The rooms were very spacious and the staff were happy to accommodate the three of us. Lovely breakfast with a great range of choices, as well as a good range of amenities on site. 12pm check out is a nice bonus

Dear Stephen McPhilemy,

I stayed at Milltown House in February 2020. Moreover to the review named “Over rated” which was written by my partner, I agree 100% for what she wrote in her review.

There was no alternative to the homemade bread in breakfast meaning that it was the only type of bread available in breakfast. The alternatives you mentioned in the reply of the other review, you didn’t mention other type of breads. I can confirm that there were no eggs available in breakfast from 9 to 10:00am and it is very rude from your end to say that she was not telling the truth when you were not present to see by yourself !!!!! we were the first people that sat down in the ‘restaurant’ and stayed till the end so I can confirm that no eggs were served whatsoever. Cheese was served only once and it was not replaced after being finished. Also there was only ONE type of cold meats.

Another thing that I remember is that the toilet flushing of the room made alot of noise, and apart from that, I could also hear the flushing of other guests from my room, with the tv switched on, so you can immagine if it was switched off how much it would sound more....

And yes I can reassure you that we travelled around all republic of Ireland and your stay was the most expensive one with the cheapest service. Will never forget that.

Dear micas064 I can confirm that you're right, no eggs were available, because eggs were not on the menu as it was low -season, a policy we have now changed. Cooked breakfast are available at all times of the year. You booked a discounted room during low season (February) when we offered a continental breakfast served buffet style. As mentioned we have decided to off our award-winning full breakfasts at all times from now on. Our breakfast is now, but this wasn't theme when you booked the discounted room - Home-baked scones, artisan Irish cheeses, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, cold meats, speciality tea, great coffee. Cooked breakfasts like our speciality ‘full Irish’, smoked salmon & scrambled eggs and porridge with honey. If you found hotel rooms in Dublin or other cities with a cooked breakfast for less than the €79 you paid us, 20% of which went to a €billion booking website, then I admit you did well and congratulate you, I cannot match that price nor have I any desire to. I have to pay loyal staff and high taxes at a very quiet time of the year. Sorry to hear the toilet made a lot of noise when flushing. I will look into it. Best wishes on your future travels Stephen McPhilemy

Thank you for the positive review and for choosing to stay with us. Delighted you found Milltown House charming and our location picturesque. I'll look into the pillow situation and have them replaced if necessary, its the first time we have heard that mentioned in half a decade, sorry to hear you found them "VERY FLAT"! With respect, if you had requested new pillows you would have received them immediately. Breakfast is served from 8.30am to 10am so not sure why that mix-up with your breakfast happened but feel free to email me and I'll look into that also. Best wishes to you and happy travels. We have just returned from the most beautiful stay in the most beautiful homely quaint Milltown House. A step back in history with all the memorabilia and pictures of the film Ryan's Daughter and also all the history captured in the pictures and extensive library available to all guests in the beautiful classy very atmospheric bar. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay it is situated in a prime location close to all amenities and within walking distance to the town. A beautiful spot with stunning views and we had very enjoyable morning walks during our stay. The bedrooms are amazing each with individual names and themes. Very homely and spacious and captures all that is Irish with the presence of the 3 Irish wolf hounds who welcome the guests on their arrival...... truly enjoyable experience especially for the kids. An all round fabulous accommodation suitable for all age groups and worked very well for our family group. Falconry was a available on site which we thoroughly enjoyed by young and old. I can whole heartedly say we were sad to be leaving this beautiful part of the world with beautiful tourist spots restaurants and the very enjoyable boat trip to see Fungie the Dolphin. The sightseeing is the best Ive ever seen Slea Head is a must see as is Connors Pass and Brandon's Creek. We had the most amazing tour Guide in Pascal Fitzpatrick of Fitzpatrick Coaches Monaghan who's knowledge of the area and its history is to be commended and admired. He left nothing out and we seen all aspects of the beauty Dingle and Milltown house has to offer. I would highly recommend this beautiful house full of historic beauty and charm and I bet once you visit you'll want to return. Thank you Milltown House for the most memorable Summer Holiday 2020. Xxx

We booked one night at Milltown House because our preferred location was booked for the last night of our stay in Dingle. The reviews for Milltown were extremely good, so we booked the night and considered ourselves lucky. Having stayed there, however, I have to agree with reviewers who say Milltown House is overrated and over-priced. The building itself is adequate but shabby and in need of updating. The rooms were perfectly fine, but I expected far better, considering the reviews. We were greeted by a very affable fellow who essentially handed us our key and pointed up the stairs to our room. No tour of the facility, no offer to help with our bags, no explanation about wifi. The door to our bathroom was so badly stuck closed we at first thought we didn't have a private toilet; but I was relieved to find one when I put my elbow to the door. The grounds are shabby at best, with rubbish and construction materials stacked up within plain sight of guests. There was even a torso-shaped punching bag lying on its side! People have remarked on the Irish Wolfhounds, which seem to be a signature feature of the inn. Being dog lovers, we were delighted by these gentle giants, but not so charmed by the HUGE piles of dog poop all over the grass by the driveway (at least five that we saw). Finally, I have noticed that the inn owner solicits reviews but then responds defensively to negative remarks, accusing guests of being too picky or rationalizing the inn's deficiencies as part of its rustic charm. Doing so is extremely bad form for someone in the hospitality industry. By comparison, we stayed at Benners in Dingle for our first four nights and absolutely loved it. The place cost less and had far better accommodations, service, and dining/drinking options. Benners isn't perfect either, but they do a wonderful job and don't, as far as I can tell, berate reviewers for disagreeing with them!

Response from Milltown House Dingle, Owner at Milltown House
Responded 25 May 2023
Dear “James H”. Genuinely sorry to read Milltown House was not for you, the reviews from other guests on the same date were all excellent (I think its fair to point that out) and we were unaware you had so many dislikes. As you said yourself, you only booked a night with us reluctantly because your first choice in Dingle was booked out, so I don’t think we ever really stood a chance of you also loving our beloved Milltown House. ** I must confess I had a little chuckle to myself when you mentioned the “torso-shaped punching bag” that is stored in our Wolfhound enclosure. Apart from you noticing it behind a 5 foot wall, it could not possibly have impacted your stay in any way, but I’ll explain nevertheless - I purchased the “torso-shaped punchbag” during lockdown, hoping to become the next Tyson Fury, but alas I never even went 12 rounds with it, and for nigh on 2 summers my darling wife has been berating me to get rid of it: your negative review has inspired me to make the decision to say goodbye to it, my wife thanks you for that. ** You’re correct that I don’t enjoy people who grump or complain a lot, for better or for worse thats just me. I’m 47 now so I doubt I’d be able to change. As a professional tour-guide I’ve stayed at almost every 5 star hotel in Ireland. I’ve found faults in them all, but unless it’s a very serious thing I don’t complain (unless I also acknowledge the positives), life is too short. Your review highlighted zero positives for future guests reading it. No mention of our glorious waterfront location, our ‘Robert Mitchum’ bar, our award-winning school of Falconry. When travelling, I prefer to look for the positives than the negatives. I think in fairness when someone has devoted 10 years of life to warmly welcoming guests on Dingle Harbour, perhaps they can be forgiven a little for verbally defending their business. Our business is our baby, our passion. At the same time, if the overwhelming majority of guests absolutely love Milltown House but you do not, it is not beyond the scope of rational behaviour for me to politely remind you of that truth. On the night you stayed with us, all the other guests gave Milltown House a 5 star review. We are proud to have 628 ‘Excellent’ reviews, and regrettably we have 7 ‘terrible’ reviews. One day I hope we will reach a stage where we will never receive a bad review. But that day may never come, so we just focus on doing our best to keep the vast majority of guests happy. By interesting coincidence, yesterday we again won a Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Best of the BestAward, it is for hotels that are “ranked in the top 1% of properties worldwide”. I respectfully disagree that we are over-priced. You chose to pay it. Almost 20% of the price you paid went to Expedia, a $billion corporation. Another 9% went on VAT tax, and another good chunk on other taxes and rising costs. Also, If you had stayed with us in February, the average room price was €75, in summer it is double, at weekends sometimes triple (you stayed on a Friday night), in darkest November when all the foreign tourists have gone but my costs are even higher, you can stay with us for two-thirds less than you paid in May, our prices change according to demand - that’s perfectly normal business practise.
Milltown House will always have improvements to make, it can always be better, I assure you we already know that. We are presently finishing up €90,000 of structural improvements, renovations and garden-landscaping (you complained about that too), we invest every hard-earned cent back into the business, and we are so so lucky to be blessed with very loyal guests, both Irish and international, who absolutely love Milltown House, give us glowing Tripadvisor reviews and cant wait to return time after time. Unfortunately for my hard-working team and I, you are not one of them. Thats a pity. Anyway, we wish you well and thank you for staying with us. Safe travels Stephen McPhilemy Host and Owner Ps you’re absolutely right about the “5 dog poops” you claim to have spotted at the bottom of the driveway. I’ll chat to the team about this and we’ll re-double our efforts to remove all dog-poops daily around our 1 acre of lawns. Our gentle-giant Irish Wolfhounds, Seamus and Ogie, are the size of small ponies, so you’ll appreciate scooping their poop is not exactly an easy task, or a favourite one. I do it myself most days, but I literally cant keep up with them.

Beautiful location on Dingle Bay. We received a warm welcome from
Aoife who showed us to our room. The hotel has character and our spacious room had every convenience while retaining its unique old character. The large bathroom had a good over the bath shower with plenty of hot water. The beautiful little bar downstairs was well stocked and inviting and enabled one to chat with fellow guests, if so desired. Aoife ran the bar also and had loads of local knowledge. The lounge had comfortable couches, a roaring stove fire and easy to relax in after a day’s touring. The location is ideal as it’s just a shot walk into Dingle for dinner and then you can it walk off on the return journey. No fighting with traffic or searching for parking. The chú faoil added another dimension and were gentle giants - a great hit with young and old alike. There was a good choice for breakfast and served by the delightful Niamh who was calm and serene even when the conservatory breakfast room was very busy. She still managed to chat and offer tour tips for the area. All the other staff encountered were warm and friendly too. We felt it was good value too. Don’t miss the Blasket Island Centre - Well worth the €4 senior rate. Give it enough time and savour the experience.
Our thanks to all at Milltown House for very enjoyable few days and we’ll be back before too long, hopefully.

Our room was super cute and had an enourmous, very comfortable bed. There was a Nespresso machine with coffee pods, tea etc. Everything was squeaky clean. Stephen, the owner, was super frienldy and gave us tips on where to go for dinner in Dingle town. Their three massive wolfhounds are adorable - so cuddly and friendly. The guesthouse is a ten minute walk from Dingle Town centre, and we were able to drive to all the locations we wanted to see from there in just one day.
The only thing I wish was different is that breakfast is served pretty late for my liking (we were there in the weekend so I don't know if it's the same in the rest of the week). We would have liked to have breakfast before our trip round the peninsula Saturday, but breakfast isn't served until 9.00, and that's just too late if you want to catch some nice morning light and to get the most out of the day as possible. For someones who usually wake up at 6.00, 9.00 was a long time to wait for breakfast, and we would have liked to be out the door at 7.00. We bought some stuff in the local SuperValu the night before (because the staff told us Friday evening when we arrived about the breakfast), so we made do with that so we could still leave early to go explore the beautiful, amazing pensinsula. We saw the sun rise over Carhoo Bay, and it was magical. Sunday morning we took a walk along the bayside and rounded back to the guesthouse, and on the way we saw two seals chilling on the docks.
We will definitely be back here next time we go to Dingle (we will practice sleeping for a little longer if breakfast is still served late), and we will, because we only got halfway up Mount Brandon - next time we go all the way!

Thanks for staying with us, it was a pleasure to host you (always a pleasure to chat about my cherished memories of Copenhagen with our Danish visitors) and we are happy to hear you will be coming back to visit in future. Happy to hear you found the service friendly and the rooms "squeaky clean" :) You make a very good point about the low season starting at 9am, we are in the kitchen from 8am prepping and getting everything ready and baking the homemade scones, so there's no problem in opening the dining room earlier. Of course I should add that all you had to do was ask and we would've happily done so, but regardless of that you're right. So from now on the low-season breakfast (Feb and March) will be served at the same time as the high season breakfast (April to October) and that will be from 8.30am - 10am. "Ancora Imparo" - (I am still learning)... Michelangelo Happy travels to you Stephen McPhilemy Owner

Clean spacious room overlooking river with nice view. Really large comfortable bed. Pleasant surroundings inside and out.
Nice atmosphere in bar and easy access walk to Dingle. We have stayed before and standard at breakfast not as good as usual. No orange juice no milk no bread. Possibly caused by electricity outage that morning which meant no water for shower in room. Overall still great place to stay for couple on getaway weekend.

Greetings from Milltown House I’m afraid we are NOT able to welcome dogs anymore.
