We had a very negative experience staying at An Bruachan. I was travelling there from Dublin, along with 2 friends coming from different parts of the country. I was delayed in work on Friday and then caught in bad traffic exiting the city as a result. We had previously contacted the host out of courtesy with an ETA of approx. 9pm. The host never responded to this message. On our way down we were further delayed due to driving conditions after storm Ellen. I rang the host at around 8.30pm to explain that had been delayed and would only be able to arrive by 11pm. The host was extremely aggressive and derogatory on the phone. I asked the B&B owner could she leave a key outside (considering she was so furious that we were going to be there at 11) and she said not a chance. My friends and I were completely shocked by how we were spoken to as a result of this delay and stressed for the rest of the car journey as a result. The host again was extremely rude to us upon our arrival, commenting on how driving to Kerry at night “wasn’t a sensible thing to do”, speaking over us and questioning us in an incredibly aggressive manner. The next day someone else served our breakfast and all was fine until when we were leaving and she then decided to give us another talk because ‘we are young girls and obviously don’t understand that this is not a hotel’. We love to hike and regularly stay in B&Bs and would never intentionally disrespect hard working people in the hospitality industry. Similarly we have never come across a host like this in all of the wonderful places that we have stayed. We are surprised that the reviews are so positive and disappointed we weren’t treated in the same regard as other guests obviously have been. I don’t usually write negative reviews and am keen to support irish businesses (particularly at this time) but our experience at an Bruachán was horrendous and being fair to ourselves I want to comment on it. To point out the positives of the place, it was clean and we were happy with the breakfast. We left immediately after it, however, as the atmosphere was very uncomfortable.

We spend 3 nights in this gorgeous b&b with its fabulous gardens, delicious breakfast and amazing host. Julia is so warm and friendly and gave great recommendations of places to eat and visit. Her morning breakfast was so varied and delicious. The room was clean and comfortable and keeping to all covid recommendations. The shower is out room was amazing also!!! So close to the town, only 3 minute drive which makes it an ideal location! Would definitely stay again and definitely recommend.

My family, three people, spent two nights at the cootage. Julia is an excellent host and prepared delicious breakfast. The rooms are very clean and cosy. The bathroom is modern. The cottage is surrounded by a magnificient garden. We were allowed to use the living room with a comfortable fire-place, which was very pleasant end of October. I recommend the accommodation.
