Lovely setting, beautiful accommodation, staff couldn't be nicer, but ultimately I was disappointed by the food. It's an expensive stay so everything needs to click. If you're a foodie and want food as entertainment as opposed to 'just really exceptional food' , then this is the place for you. The experimentation with the starters and the desserts just the thing if you want something quite different . However if you appreciate good quality traditional artisan food cooked to perfection, then I'm not sure you'll enjoy it I was perhaps more disappointed knowing that, if they really wanted to, this restaurant is capable of producing something both traditional & sublime as opposed to just 'novel'. Perhaps they've been forced down this route by a certain clientele. For a traveller who's looking for unpretentious food, then it's probably not for you...

We stayed here in Aug 21 and we were blown away with the hospitality of Mary, Frank and their entire team. Their style of hospitality is so very rare these days but Mary and Frank have perfected it and maintained it over many years of experience in hospitality. Our 2 night stay was absolutely flawless. Our room was exceptional, spotlessly clean, very comfortable and filled with many interesting artefacts. We had unobscured 180 degree views of the lake and the gardens which meant we were tempted not to leave the room at all. The food and service in the restaurant was nothing like we've experienced in a long time. It is absolute perfection and we know we will need a return visit before we experience food and service like this again. After eating in the restaurant we sat in the lounge areas and met many different couples and had so many interesting conversations with so many people, including Frank and Mary, all in a socially distant environment. The hosts recommended a lovely walk that was right on the doorstep of the hotel, there are quite a few walks available to cater all levels. There is also direct access to the lake from the hotel and there is a very well maintained garden too. Upon reflection, we've never had a 'house hotel' type break like this and it almost feels like we've missed out on this....but we now know where to go to get it at its best! When was the last time you stayed somewhere and weeks later you still remember the name of your hosts and the chef!?

We stayed at the Carrig for two days and celebrated our marriage there and were absolutely capitvated by the beauty of the place as well as the warm atmosphere and superb service. It has a natural, old world Irish feel but is luxurious and extremely comfortable and the attention to detail is impeccable. The rooms were fantastic, as was the food and the welcome from Frank, Mary, Claire, Peter and Siobhan. I´d recommend this place to anyone for it´s incredible location on the lake, tranquil atmosphere, beautiful decor and first class service. A true one-off, thanks to all at Carrig House for making our wedding and our experience a memorable one! Rich and Marta

My husband and I recently returned to Carrig House and it never disappoints. It is a beautiful property in a peaceful location by Carragh Lake. Total relaxation. Frank, Mary and Claire are wonderful hosts and there is always a warm welcome. The food is amazing. The chef Patricia Teahan is wonderfully talented and creates the most amazing dishes and fabulous flavours. The emphasis is on locally produced products which is great. We are always well looked after in the restaurant by Teresa and Nicola. It is a real treat and we highly recommend. We are looking forward to our next visit already.

Very friendly hotel with great dinners. Nice little cubbyholes to relax in. Good area for walking and swimming. Thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable. No TV but did not miss it. WiFi just about adequate. Breakfast could be improved on but still very good.
