The Garden House is set in an acre and a half lush tropical garden with a large infinity edge swimming pool, overlooking coloured paddy fields. It is within easy reach of the walled city of Galle (listed as a world’s heritage site) and close to the glorious beaches of the south coast. The carefully renovated 1870s, planter’s house provides a welcoming retreat which is luxurious yet informal. The emphasis is on relaxation with discrete but attentive service. The whole 5 bed rooms house can be rented as a private villa or the rooms and the garden cottage can be booked on an individual basis. The garden house is ideal for a family get together, a group of friends or any special events. Everything can be arranged to make your stay perfect, what ever the occasion. The house comes fully staffed with experienced, English speaking housekeeper, cook and outdoor staff. A full laundry service is available. Meals and drinks can be taken in the shade of the large, south facing veranda overlooking the gardens and paddy fields. Locally caught seafood with tropical fruits and vegetables are the ingredients of delicious and imaginative menus that change daily. Special diets can be catered for.The Garden House is located in the unspoiled village of Ginigalla approximately ten kilometres outside Galle. The beaches of the Indian Ocean are just a ten minute drive away.

Couldn't recommend The Garden House enough. Ulla and Jorgen welcomed us into their beautiful home for four nights at the end of our holiday in Sri Lanka, and our only regret is not staying there longer. The pool overlooking the paddy fields is simply stunning, with monkeys waking you up each morning playing in the palm trees. The birds and various wildlife you see in the gardens are magnificent. The highlight for us were the superb staff - in our three weeks travelling Sri Lanka prior to arriving at the Garden House we'd had some amazing meals, but the chef here outdid any we'd had previously. She kindly taught us how to cook local dishes, and I've never had such a fresh breakfast - the best mornings I've ever had in my life were waking up in such surroundings and feasting on the magnificent food she served up! It's easy to get around to local areas such as Galle, Mirissa and Unawatuna. Ulla and Jurgen's local knowledge helps you plan any excursions, though I bet, like us, you'll end up wanting to spend a good chunk of your time at the house itself! Finally, make sure you spend some time listening to how Jurgen and Ulla met, and the stories they have from their careers in the Red Cross. A lovely and really inspirational couple. Thanks for a wonderful stay guys, and I hope we can come back soon.

This such a beautiful place to relax with a lovely view over the pool and the rice paddies. We were lucky to be there when a team came to harvest the rice in traditional fashion. Our hosts were very welcoming and informative. The staff were quiet and unassuming but very attentive and made our stay wonderful. The food was amazing! It is also a terrific place to go walking to see the local communities at work, and to catch a tuktuk from the nearby intersection and visit Galle or any of the attractions nearby. The most magical times were early morning and late evening when the monkeys moved through the trees. I would love to think that this magical area remains unchanged. I fear it will not be so.

We stayed in the Gardenhouse for the last 3 days of a very full 3 week holiday to Southern Sri-lanka. We did not want to leave. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left we were treated with such care and consideration. The actual house, garden and pool were blissful, so very calming and settling. The food was the best we had found in Sri-lanka, healthy and delicious. We loved it!!!

We spent one week with our family for Christmas period. The stay was really wonderful. The staff is simply excellent, for cooking and housekeeping. They have solutions for all your requests and are a good advise. The place is in a nice village, but the beach is quickly reachable with tuk-tuk or bus. The place is exactly what is described on the website. The owners were really helpful for any request . The swimming pool is really beautiful, as well the garden . In a few words : "Thanks Jorgen for everything"...

The Garden House was by far the best place we stayed whilst in Sri Lanka. The house is set a little inland from the coast (though still only a short ride from the beaches and about 15 minutes to Galle by tuktuk), and benefits greatly from the location. The garden is beautiful and the wildlife abundant (seeing five peacocks perched atop a palm tree was quite a sight). We stayed in the garden room, which was just as it appeared in the photos - huge, spotless and beautifully decorated. The food was delicious, the people working there very kind and helpful, and the owners are a simply wonderful couple. If you are looking to stay in the area, but want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the coast (and to be honest, the increasing pollution and unregulated construction), then I highly recommend Garden House.

The Garden House is a very personal almost private experience with a very high degree of service and tranquility. The area offers numerous activity options such as swimming, walking, biking and mountainbiking, walkingtours, boardsurfing, bird watching and wonderfull food. We enjoyed being in the very calm environment and yet very close to the beautiful historic city Galle and minutes form beautiful beaches and small vlllages. We experienced an outstanding openness and kindness from the local people. We felt safe at all times and all places. The hosts and the staff of The Garden House were very supportive and kind and they were our direct source to numerous unforgettable experiences. We will advice any of our friends with a sense of beauty and quality to spend time at the Garden House Nian and Soeren

The Garden House was a perfect place to stay. Situated in a beautiful tropical garden with a fabulous pool which overlooks the rice fields, this house is tastefully decorated with lots of space to relax and enjoy the tranquil location. The owners were fabulous hosts who ensured that we were well looked after and the staff were very friendly and efficient. The chef prepared wonderful meals which could be chosen from a menu or made to request. This wonderfully beautiful location is somewhere you'll want to visit again. We certainly will.

This place is full of peace and harmony .The house is placed in the middle of an extraordinary beautiful garden with a pool just a few metres from a lime-green rice field. Colourful flowers adorn both the elegant house and its surrounding garden of a paradise. It is a perfect place to lean back with a great book and a delicious lime-soda. Even though it feels like you’re in the middle of a jungle, the beach and Galle’s charming city-life is only a tuc-tuc away. The fantastic and helpful staff buzzes around; smiling and humming while they are taking good care of the gorgeous place. To be recommended is especially the food made by the local chef, – But be careful – you might get addicted ;)

The food is exelent and you have the best coffee in Sri Lanka. The spacious rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. The well-kept garden is full of beautiful flowers and colourful birds - perfect surroundings for relaxing. The only problem is that you don't want to leave this paradise again.
