What a shame - was really looking forward to a nice meal in pleasant surroundings. Unfortunately the level of service was poor. I understand the pub was busy but the landlord was unhelpful and dismissive. The young staff that served us were efficient and helpful but there wasn't enough of them. Dirty tables, table mats well past their best. Tables...

I have eaten at the Ashford Arms several times and been very pleased, but this time was disappointed. I wondered if it was under new management, or a new chef. There was no '2 courses for £10' and thought this may be why the pub was half empty on a Friday lunchtime. My friends were satisfied with their meals (Hartington...

We stayed two nights and were very pleased with value and comfort. The location is handy, and the food is good, especially breakfast. Some desserts a bit stodgy, but the lemon mousse was light. The cheese plate was disappointing: I don't like Stilton and was given just a large portion of bland cheddar and standard brie, no frills. All service...

O.K. you get what you pay for, but at £65.00 per night per room (midweek) this was excellent value. Bottled water, biscuits, plenty of tea, coffee, all replenished each day. The bathroom was the smallest we have ever had but it served the purpose. The breakfast, cooked to order, was excellent. The evening meals, too, were excellent value. The Ashford...

Went for lunch yesterday, lovely warm welcome from Andy and the young girl, sorry forgotten her name, nothing was to much trouble. When we go to Bakewell we wont eat anywhere else, because you know the food is always spot on, I normally have the 8oz Rump in stilton sauce, its cooked exactly as I ask, and there's never any waste,...

Dropped in for dinner on my own whilst staying nearby. Great menu, too much choice if anything. The chicken liver pate was amazing. Steak & Ale pie, very average - the lid looked and felt like it was made from plasterboard. Some staff were clearly disgruntled and talking about getting other jobs - not good. I didn't feel welcome which...

My room was too small for the furniture. The bathroom was really too small altogether. The sink was difficult to use because a shelf was in the way when bending down to wash. The shower was tiny. The restaurant was very popular but I thought the food was somewhat tasteless. The tables were also small for four adults. I wouldn't...

I would like to think that we visited the Ashford Arms on a bad day, however, I can see from a lot of the reviews that people had experienced the same poor, disinterested, disorganised service that we did. The young serving staff were run off their feet and provided a good service. However, the landlord and his older 'assistant' ,...
