Visited here for dinner last week. Warmly greeted and had seat in beautiful bar area. Had Elephant Rock cocktail, one of the best I have had tried. Restaurant was full when we arrived but when it was our time to eat, it was only us. It felt like private dining! Scott made us very welcome and great chat. Excellent appetiser and duck and chicken were amazing, as was the red wine! Great addition to Portrush and will be back! Loved the decor too

From the second we walked in the door and were met by a lovely Indian gentleman who directed us very courteously through to the reception area, to the checking out we were treated wonderfully. This boutique hotel has charm with style. Add on top of that the amazing a la crate menu, breakfast, cocktails and room with an amazing view out to the rugged Atlantic and the Skerries with breakers and horses the sizes of mountains. Our room was cozy and warm from the second we arrived. It was well stocked and the large superking bed was incredibly comfortable. Best night’s sleep I’ve had in a long time. There was also a fridge in the room which was great. How do I even begin to praise the food. Words fail me! Just try it for yourself. Sean is the resident expert on a lot of stuff. A chap who likes his food and cocktails. Again you will not be disappointed with the cocktails. 100% recommend The Elephant Rock.

So so disappointed. This is a hotel I’d been looking forward to visiting and after having been shown to our “accessible”room ( husband is in wheelchair) we checked out again 15 minutes after arriving. Small dark room, no window providing any natural light ( it was pointed out to us that there was a window but it was into the reception area and if you wanted privacy you were expected to pull the blinds) which simply made it a depressing room with nothing but artificial lighting from the offset. Room was on smaller side and made swing turning of wheelchair impossible to do without bumping into chairs or the twin beds ( which we weren’t informed about upon booking nor had requested). Bathroom was hard to access in wheelchair due to chairs and a table to the side but once in it had all required rails and features to be deemed accessible but again was so small that turning wheelchair to close and lock the door behind you for privacy and to use handbasin was awkward and needed careful considered 3 or 5 point turn manoeuvres. Wheel in, get the wife to close the door behind you, twist in your chair to lock the door, do the needful, twist to the right in chair and wash your hands sideways, twist to the left to unlock the door, shout for the wife to open the door and reverse out was the name of the game. Bet no abled bodied person had such contortions and martial interactions just to do a whizz in their bathrooms!! Wardrobe was totally inaccessible to hubby and awkward for even me but simply having the hinges on the opposite side of the door would have solved all the issues. There was absolutely no phone reception in this room and the whole space just gave the feel that an accessible room was an after thought and a necessity. Apart from the lovely looking headboards, cute shortbread and a plentiful of pillows there was certainly no luxury for the disabled in this place. We travel and have hotel breaks a lot and while we don’t expect hotel rooms and the en-suites to be as perfectly suited to my husband as our own at home we certainly do not expect things to be awkward and difficult to achieve. To give the staff on duty their dues, they could not have been more helpful and understanding. And I mean that most sincerely. From the young lads out front who opened doors and helped with luggage, to the receptionist and manager, they were all lovely. We were offered an alternative room but as a standard double the bathroom simply didn’t work for my husband at all and we had to sadly decline. Hotel breaks are meant to be a treat, a relaxing break from the mundane, stress free. Life in a wheelchair is hard enough but when your hotel room is not big enough for you to turn around with ease your weekend away is none of these. The sad thing is, it would have taken so little to make this room work better, (it will never be big enough for a brilliant accessible room but it could be so much better than it currently is) but I expect not many room designers actually trial their rooms in a wheelchair themselves to fully understand and appreciate how the little things can make all the difference.

Good afternoon Paula, Thank you for taking the time to write a review, the hotel has one ambient disabled room on the ground floor which is booked regularly and used frequently by many guests in a wheelchair. We endeavour to check on all guests during their stay, at no point had any previous guests highlighted the points you have raised; however l can see changing the positioning of the wardrobe door to be more accessible will help guests gain access. This room has been inspected by building control and has met all requirements from the extra room around the beds, door sizes, rails, shower seat, emergency alarms, two sinks etc. When the booking was made directly, it was explained that the room had two twin beds which was also confirmed in the email sent of the booking confirmation. l had shown you another room on the 1st floor as you had mentioned you had felt claustrophobic and wished for a window that would open. I had explained that the bathroom had a walk-in shower with no accessible features, l had shown you Vi’s terrace bar which could have been used to relax in during your stay and offered the ground floor room to be used in conjunction with this room when needed for showering. It is unfortunate that none of the points you had mentioned in your review were discussed with me prior to you leaving. As a gesture l waived the total cost of the weekend stay as you had made me aware that your husband had just been through surgery. If you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me gm@elephantrockhotel.co.uk

The staff is incredibly welcoming. The room was very modern and the bed was extremely comfortable. The food was the best we experienced during our entire trip to Ireland. This place is an absolute gem. Gorgeous all the way around. And a very short drive to Dunluce and the Giant’s Causeway. I loved this place.

Just a marvellous little hotel. Staff, service, food and decor all top notch. Location excellent too. At last Portrush has a hotel to be proud of. I'm saying no more because I resent Tripadvisor requiring a review of at least 200 characters. Less is so often more.

Beautiful hotel. The staff really can’t do enough for you. The shortbread biscuits really are amazing. Great drinks and food too. We had the overnight deal with dinner which was great value. Just found the hotel to be a smidge too hot at times.
