My boyfriend & I chose the ambassador suite with breakfast & dinner included for my 21st birthday. The best stay i’ve ever had in a hotel!
The jacuzzi bath and extra large bed in the room was amazing, also the aircon was perfect too - (We can’t sleep in warmth)
Joe & Mary in the hotels restaurant were just delightful, we arrived quite late for dinner as it was closing at 9:30 and we arrived at 9pm. And as a past restaurant worker myself, I know it can be annoying when people waltz in near closing time. However Mary & Joe did not let it phase them and were extremely welcoming & attentive!
The food in the hotel was beautiful & cocktails were gorgeous!

The roof hot tub was lovely & the sauna and steam room are great! We didn’t use the pool but it looks great too.

Staff were extremely helpful, especially the man on reception at 1:30am who helped us order our breakfast for bed delivery at 9:30am! The breakfast was amazing, cereal, fruit, pastries, tea & coffee, orange juice and ice water & FULL Irish Breakfast was perfect to start the day.

Highly recommend the ambassador suite for extra luxury and comfort. The bed & bedsheets were unbelievably soft and cosy, we didn’t want to move the next morning! Blackout curtains created the dark environment we need when we sleep.
Genuinely couldn’t fault our stay.

On a realistic level though, I will say the shower in the ambassador suite could have a little bit more pressure.

Dear Juliana Thank you so much for your wonderful review and a very Happy Birthday! I am delighted you enjoyed every aspect of your stay and Mary and Joe in the restaurant will be delighted to receive a special mention, and even more so that you enjoyed the meal in our award winning restaurant. Our leisure centre is the perfect place to relax and unwind and it was great you got to use the outdoor hot tub. I am pleased our night staff helped you and you received room service breakfast to the highest of standards. The Ambassador Suite gives a little luxury on a night away and it is lovely to read you found the bed very comfortable . I do hope you return again in the near future and thank you for taking the time in sharing your experience. Warm Regards Orla Hayes Marketing Manager

The deal we had included dinner on 2 of the 4 nights we stayed. Our room was lovely ,clean and spacious overlooking the canal and enjoyed our first night followed by a swim in the hotel pool and used the outdoor hot tub on the rooftop of the leisure complex before enjoying a lovely breakfast. Unfortunately our 2nd nights sleep was disturbed by very loud wedding guests returning to their rooms between 2 and 3 am and banging on doors and shouting. Dinner on the 2nd night in the Old Mill Restaurant was excellent with a good choice of food and a lovely bottle of wine. Breakfast on all 4 mornings was very good and dinner on our last night was excellent. The staff were very efficient and friendly and considering the restrictions in place regarding Covid did a good job of trying to accommodate everyone. Towards the end of our stay service started to become limited to hotel guests and anyone not staying at the hotel had limited access that made the hotel more quieter than normal but overall did not effect our stay. We would definitely stay here again.

As regular visitors to the canal court we were not disappointed once again arriving on boxing day!!! Arriving with 3 kids as a Xmas belated treat we were met by a swift check in with no issues to our room, very spacious if family room and lovely gesture of selection boxes each laid out on kids beds(thank you).

Went and used the swimming pool after checking in - not too crowded as booking essential for slot due to covid restrictions.

Lovely dinner in the old mill restaurant even for the fussy of kids they loved the options on offer. Even as boxing day the bar was in full swing and rightly so giving the restrictions of music coming into play the next day - no bother when we returned to room or any noisy revellers returning to their own rooms.

Staff are so warm and welcoming in all areas. Another great stay - can't wait to return once again!!!

Tonight I visited the Canal Court for a soup and sandwich with a friend. We decided to eat out in the front foyer so we could chat, people watch and enjoy our food. Unfortunately the service wasn't up to scratch. There was one young boy serving roughly around 7 tables all of which were asking for his attention on multiple occasions at the same time. Why does a huge 4* hotel not have more staff serving food on a Thursday night? The place was that under staffed we received our sandwich 20 minutes after our soup which spoilt the experience as our soup was cold by the time we waited. Very dissapointed.

Before writing this review, I thought I would give the venue another two chances.

On both previous occasions I had asked to sit outside for a drink and alerted the server inside who is placed at a podium welcoming customers to the restaurant and bar. On both occasions I was told it was fine and to take a seat outside and someone would be with me shortly. The first time someone actually did appear after 13 minutes and took our order of 2 pints. The prices have gone up and the staff do not tell you about this until you pay. £4 per pint now - the most expensive in Newry by a minimum of 20p. Wouldn’t be half as bad if the place didn’t have the reputation of one of the worst pints in town but due to their revamp and trying to support local business after lockdown I decided I would like to visit anyway.

The second time, nobody came near us after 20 minutes so we left and went elsewhere.

On the third occasion we asked the receptionist could we grab a coffee and scone and she advised us to sit down and that waiters are going around. Nobody appeared for 10 minutes this time and when they did, they cleared a table, walked past us and came back and took the order of two men who arrived long after us and walked past us again. I called the waitress back and ordered. The scone was lovely and the coffee too. Duerrs jam though is probably the worst jam out there.

I suppose what I’m saying is you really need to pay more attention to customers who aren’t sat in the main bar and restaurant as they’re being neglected. Designate staff to these areas or just don’t do food and drink in them.

Dear Mark, I am disappointed to read of your experience and would like to comment on some of your points raised. Our drink prices are very much comparable to any hotel in the local area so disappointed you feel it was expensive. In relation to the service, I can only apologise at this time - we have since addressed the service issue in our lobby since the first few weeks of reopening and hope if you do return you will not have the same issues. We have stayed in the Canal Court hotel many times over the years.

This was our second stay this year & we chose the Penthouse Suite for this visit. As we experienced noise issues on our previous stay, we were told that the Penthouse would be quieter.

At no stage in the booking process or room description did I see that the Penthouse is accessed by stairs only & isn't disabled friendly. There was probably about 15 steps in total but the steps were very narrow & as we both have back issues, we found it tough carrying our cases up the steps. If we'd known that, we wouldn't have chosen this room & this is something that the hotel should highlight.

The entrance door to the Penthouse leads to a small corridor that was a bit unkempt. The Suite was nice but the seating area definitely needed upgrading. The bedroom appeared to have been renovated but at 7.30pm before we went for dinner, we couldn't find the safe! Despite looking everywhere, we couldn't locate it. The bathroom was lovely. There are low beams in parts of the Suite & if you're over 5ft 8in, it's possible that you won't notice them as they are the same colour as the rest of the ceiling & you'll hit your head, which I did & ended up with a 2 day headache.

I had pre-ordered Prosecco and Chocolates as it was the anniversary of our 1st date. On arrival at 3pm, while the Prosecco and chocolates were in the room, the ice bucket hadn't been left on a plate so the ice had melted onto the table and had destroyed the chocolates. When housekeeping came to replace the chocolates, I was told that we were expected into the room earlier, even though check-in was 3pm! We had lunch in the bar when we arrived & unfortunately when we got to the room, we'd been given a complimentary voucher for the carvery which had to be used by 3.15pm that day - so we never got to use it.

We ate in the Old Mill Restaurant that night & while the food was nice, we found it very expensive for what we got.

Breakfast the next morning was chaotic & while the hot food was nice, some of the continental breakfast items weren't replaced while we were there & when I queried about the croissants, I was told that they were coming. After 15 minutes of waiting, we gave up on them arriving!

The biggest negative is the 11am checkout.

The receptionist suggested that I speak with the Manager, which I did. While she was polite, I felt very dismissed by her which really put an ever greater negative on our stay.

The hotel is in a good location but room prices are very expensive for what you get. In addition, the food in both the bar & the restaurant is very over priced.

Overall, it was a disappointing and expensive stay! Not something we will do again for a while.

We had our christening here Saturday past. It was truly excellent. The preparation and attention to detail coming up to our event was excellent by Louise and all the team. The evening was ran was smoothly, with meals served on time, dishes cleared promptly and nothing was an issue for David our manager on the evening. My party are still talking about what a wonderful meal we had with such generous food portions. The mardyke suite is also so luxurious and decorated to such a high spec, wonderful for any events!!
Thank you for making our sons christening so special and memorable.

We had a very pleasant stay in the Canal Court. All the staff we met from housekeeping, reception, bar and leisure centre were extremely cheerful and hard working. It was a busy Sunday on a bank holiday weekend yet the service was second to none and the meal in the Granary Bar Grill was delicious. Very impressed with pool and hot tub too. The bedroom was large and well equipped with everything we needed. Would not hesitate to visit again.

First off parking is a bit of a hit n miss within the hotel grounds you will get a space within 10 mins but you just have to drive around in circles until you get one if it is full.

Check in was smooth pleasant receptionists.

Our room was located facing the canal it was a lovely view I must say, Room overall was cleaned to a high standard, complementaries such as water where left in the fridge for us and the usual tea and biscuits are also provided as-well. We ate in the restaurant that evening and me and my fiancé absolutely enjoyed the service food and drinks, all three 10/10, we both said we would definitely return to use the spa facilities as we didn’t get to use them on this occasion unfortunately.

Positives

Nice size room
Comfy bed
Jacuzzi bath in room

Negatives

“Car Park”. Why is it not reserved for people staying overnight in the hotel? It clearly isn’t big enough and should surely be for guests staying overnight.

There’s people taking up spaces walking in with a gym bag. Seriously ?

We sat in a queue going back to beside Dunnes.
No guest wants to spend time trying to find a space after circling the tiny one way parking system yous have going on.

£185 a night. With no breakfast included is crazy. Ambassador suite Saturday night. Prices have hiked far too high for what you’re actually getting. It isn’t galgorm & that price for one night room only is ridiculous.

Suite is positioned right next to the generators outside = noise.

Minor things that could easily be sorted if anyone actually cared.
