Killeavy Castle Estate hotel emerges as a beacon of cleanliness with guests lauding its immaculate rooms and pristine spa, although the spa's size and treatments occasionally fall short of expectations. The comfort and modernity of the rooms receive acclaim, despite minor grievances regarding refrigeration and temperature regulation. While the service receives mixed reviews, the staff's warmth and efficiency often shine through. Nestled in serene countryside, the hotel's location is celebrated for its tranquility and picturesque scenery. However, some guests feel the cost of their stay doesn't quite align with the value received.

This was our second time staying at Killeavy Castle and it was just as good as the first! Top marks all around. The hotel is spotless and modern, the grounds are beautiful, the staff are really friendly and up for a chat and a laugh while remaining absolutely professional. We had a delicious dinner in the bistro and wrapped up with breakfast in bed ... Killeavy has everything we look for in a hotel and is highly recommended!

Just spent two nights in the beautiful Killeavy Castle Estate to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Had read some fabulous reviews and have to say from communication just after booking, when Danielle phoned to confirm everything around arrival arrangements etc through the entire stay, the visit was simply wonderful. The setting is amazing at the foothills of Slieve Gullion with beautiful views. The staff are so welcoming. The deluxe room was simply outstanding, tastefully decorated with very comfortable furniture, a lovely balcony and much to my wife’s delight ‘rituals’ shower gel and hand wash in the bathroom. By the way the shower was fantastic! Lovely touch to have a happy anniversary card and delicious chocolate brownies waiting in the room. We ate in the bar on our first night. Food delicious and reasonably priced. Beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and it was tremendous with a wide variety of hot and cold food available. The fry was delicious. The highlight of our stay was without doubt dinner on the second night which consisted of the 7 course taster menu in the restaurant. Wow oh wow what a treat, everything was absolutely delicious, presentation first class and taste simply outstanding. Every course was explained by our servers who were so attentive. The farm to fork ethos of the hotel and use of their own produce and local suppliers is to be commended and is certainly reflected in the delicious food. A special mention for Matthew who served us. He was a wonderful ambassador for Killeavy. Again we were recognised with a lovely dessert to mark our special day. Do not miss out on this dining opportunity, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. Our table at the window had wonderful views of the surroundings and it was a pleasure to sit and eat in such an exceptional venue. The country walks around the hotel are a bonus. The castle itself looks fabulous.
I cannot speak highly enough about all the staff. They are so welcoming, always smiling and chatty and made our stay a very memorable one. This is a hotel you will not be disappointed in if you visit. Whilst the spa wasn’t open due to covid, I can imagine it will also live up to expectations. Thank you to everyone for ensuring that our first visit was so memorable and will certainly not be our last. Indeed we are planning our next stay in the very near future.

Me and my partner stayed here for our anniversary and we really enjoyed our stay. All the staff members were kind, helpfully and very welcoming! From the moment we went through the door till when we were leaving.

The room was spotless with an amazing view and comfy bed. My partner ordered flowers which were sitting on the desk when we entered the hotel room, along with a personalised note from the hotel and brownies.

Any problems or concerns that were raised during our stay were dealt with in a professional and kind manner. Sarah who checked us out was lovely and took our bags to the car.

The hotel offers soya milk and a vegan breakfast. The only area the hotel could work on would be offering a larger range of vegan options; perhaps pancakes or meat-free sausages.

We will definitely be back!

Thank you for making our anniversary so special!

We cant speak highly enough of this place! The area is fantastic to explore, plenty to see and out in nature. The castle is beautiful and a real adventure! The hotel itself is luxurious and has every amenity needed to give a great break. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The staff are something else: helpful, chatty, full of information, attentive and do a very efficient job. The spa has everything necessary to give the most relaxing time: hottub, pool area, thermal pool, sauna and vapor showers. Wonderful!!! And all this is in addition to brilliant food, both at breakfast where both Irish and continental is offered buffet style and there are plenty kitchen additions available as well. The 7 course taster menu is an experience all on its own and every bite is something new and wonderful for the pallet. All precautions for Covid 19 are in force, every area is consistently sanitised and feels very safe, which is important at this time. Really a great place for relaxation and rejuvenation in these difficult times!

Our foreign holiday had been cancelled just a few days before we were due to travel, so we were left with not a lot to choose from as most staycation offers had been well booked up. I actually found this stunning hotel by accident and am I glad I did!

We just went for the one night as it's just an hour away from Belfast. By another stroke of luck the spa also had availability for a couple's massage! So we arrived at the spa first to have our treatments. Staff were so friendly and welcoming we immediately felt relaxed. The spa area is compact but well equipped with everything you need. Hot tub, pool, experience showers, sauna.

The massage itself was phenomenal. Nicely lit relaxing room. Two lovely therapists made sure we were relaxed and comfortable from the start. Would highly recommend this!

Rooms are huge with all you need. Rainfall shower and bath. Outside small patio was a delight. Well stocked with 2 large bottles of water and tea/coffee facilities. We were shown to our room by the receptionist who showed us all the photos on the walls explaining the history of the location. The attention to detail is second to none.

We had the 7 course taster menu with our package and honestly we've never experienced anything like this. The food was beyond our expectations and the service was exceptional. Wine was flowing and the cocktails in the bar were delicious. My favourite was the hazelnut espresso martini! I apologise for the long review but o cannot explain how much of a hidden gem this hotel is. We will definitely be back. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Keep up the good work!

Recently stayed in Killeavy Castle following a recommendation.

The grounds and castle were beautiful with the hotel a contemporary and tastefully decorated addition. Our room was generously sized although as per previous reviews there is no air-con and the room could get uncomfortably warm even with the window opened. We also fed back to the hotel that the doors would let out an almighty bang if not closed gently, something which they assured us would be taken on board but oddly has been mentioned in a number of other reviews.

We ate in both the restaurant and bar, finding the food and drink to be both competitively priced and tasty. Breakfast was also equally good with both buffet and meal choices available.

We also treated ourselves to a number of treatments in the spa which were again competitively priced and relaxing. The spa itself is quite limited in size and features but we were able to spend an hour or 2 there.

Throughout our stay the staff were friendly and engaged, showing good levels of professionalism in all areas. It was lovely to get a brief history of the hotel development from Eugene when we arrived and who took the time to check on us during our stay.

My general feeling is the hotel is rightly trying to pitch itself at the top end of the market but is still behind a number of others in NI, there are a few i’s to dot and T’s to cross but I am sure in the coming years it will establish itself as a place for repeat visits.

Just back from a 2 night break - what a beautifully designed hotel, huge and comfy room with super king bed and large window overlooking the gardens and mountains (and that was the standard double). I had a lovely relaxing massage in the spa. The food was INCREDIBLE, even the bar food was more like a top restaurant, but the 7 course tasting menu was a memorable experience - all fresh, seasonal ingredients from the hotel farm cooked with real creativity, and the service was spot on. Breakfast was gorgeous and I ate way too much!! The staff are the loveliest, so friendly and cheerful and clearly very proud of their workplace and home. Hygiene and safety were paramount, I had my temp checked every day and there was hand sanitizer everywhere with well spaced tables and also places to sit outdoors, small things like taking bookings for breakfast prevented overcrowding. The stunning Slieve Gullion forest scenery on the doorstep was great for a long walk and getting some fresh mountain air, I slept like a baby every night. I'll definitely be back again for a weekend break.

My mother and myself booked a night away in killeavy in January. First impressions the staff were extremely friendly and helpful on arrival and checking us into our room. The rooms are very modern and well equipped and spacious, we had a twin room. The hotel and grounds are lovely with nice walks near by. We used the spa, it was nice however very small, we were lucky to be the only people there otherwise more than 6 people would be cramped. The hotel bar had no atmosphere, I don’t know whether this is the time of year on a Thursday evening but there were only two other tables in and no music or good vibe. The food wasn’t good. I had ordered the cod and chips, the cod was dry and the batter was scattered on top, think it was trying to be ‘fancy’ but did not work. We had a scone and coffee when we arrived and the scone was dry and the breakfast was cold on the buffet. We did however order food that was made and this was nice for the breakfast. Overall a nice place and staff were exceptional however I think the food could definately be improved considering the price.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and while the hotel is visually beautiful and the staff are so helpful and friendly, we felt that the hotel lacked some things that could have brought a bit extra to the experience.
We stayed in a room with the balcony which was lovely but there is no privacy here whatsoever. If someone else stands on their balcony they can see directly into your room and therefore you are forced to close your curtains. Also, if you are on your balcony not only can next door see you but the floor above and side windows also. I would suggest maybe a form of trellis or something would suit the surroundings well and you could grow some of the beautiful flowers from the gardens here? Privacy is def something that needs to be looked at.
In terms of the room; everything was fabulous except for lack of air conditioning or advertised fan availability. We did stay at an incredibly hot time but the heat of the room was insane. Only cold showers helped until we were given a fan on the 3rd night. Def not a room for a hot summers day/night. Also, a mini fridge would have been helpful as there was no way at all to keep drinks or even food cool and given the proximity to local shops for water etc, we needed a fridge to keep things drinkable. However I will state again the rooms were beautiful to look at and the occasional peacock on the balcony was fantastic.
In terms of the food offered In the hotel - while meat eaters were in their element, the choices for vegetarians were pitiful. When I was given a vegetarian menu, every option contained fish except for a cauliflower steak which was minuscule and costs £15. My only option on one of the nights was a bowl of chips - not the most appetising meal. Something as simple as an omelette shouldn’t be that difficult to offer or even a risotto or pasta dish. Given the veg in your wonderful garden and the very talented chefs in your kitchen, maybe this could be looked at.
As I said the staff are so lovely and friendly and genuinely made the experience lovely but just those few wee things would have ensured a return from us.

My partner arranged an overnight stay at Killeavy as a birthday gift for me. Despite it being tucked out of the way and slightly difficult to locate, it was still close to local amenities should you need them.

We arrived to a lovely, friendly and informative welcome. The hotel was spotless and well decorated thus very welcoming. The room we chose was lovely and spacious, with a sliding door allowing the room to get a breeze, which we appreciated given there is no air conditioning! It was all very modern and almost lacked a certain “quality” feel; a larger bath would have been a bonus as well as a wider selection of hot beverages.

A major downside of our room was that it seemed to be located alongside a main pathway thus lots of visitors automatically looked directly into our room. The only solution was to close the curtains, which isn’t ideal for both lighting and heat purposes. The bed comprised of 2 small beds pushed together, but this doesn’t annoy me personally and it was very comfortable!

The surrounding area was limited in terms of exploring and walking, but what we did see was lovely! It did seem to be hosting a private function during our stay which caused a lot of noise, and the room/s above us were extremely noisy. This wasn’t too much of an issue as the noise subsided by a reasonable hour.

There was a very limited choice in terms of food, to the extent my partner struggled to choose a meal and the only appealing desert had actually been removed from the menu. What food we did get was reasonably enjoyable, but more traditional and popular foods would be much more attractive! Breakfast was nice but could be better: no milk included for cereal and no option to choose exactly what you want for a hot breakfast (room service).

We like to relax in a hotel and have our meals in the room, and a major downside influencing our hesitation about revisiting is the privacy issue and poor menu choices.

Overall we would consider visiting again, but would like to see some better food choices and additional amenities considering the price of the rooms (or at least the one we stayed in for 1 night).
