We stayed at Genesis Ek Balam for one night on our way to Valladolid and we absolutely loved the place! The most magical experience was being able to hear all the sounds of the jungle from our room at night, as we tried to identify all the different 'sounds' we could possibly hear from different species of frogs, birds, crickets,...

You were right about getting away from the tourist zones and getting to know real Yucatan. Thanks for appreciating the things we love about living here, mostly the people and the green life everywhere!

Thank you much! We really enjoyed our stay! My son and I stayed in the Bird House. It was fantastic! Very tranquil. It truly is a garden oasis of relaxation. Indoor/outdoor living. Gloria cooked delicious dinners. The grounds are beautiful! The pool is beautiful! Loved having the dogs and cats around. Felt like home as soon as we walked in....

What a compliment to hear that "it felt like home as soon as we walked in"! That´s the idea! Your home in paradise! Glad you took the time to explore the village too...and the cenotes and archaeological zone.

Our three-night stay was heavenly. Lee has created a small oasis, merged into the lovely indigenous town of Ek Balam. Comfortable, intimate, and relaxing, Genesis is a perfect place for those who value a 'real' traveling experience, a commitment to living lightly on the earth, and have an appreciation for natural beauty. It has unique units, some rustic and all...

I like your comparison between Chichen itza (Disneyland) and Ek Balam. Ek Balam still retains its original mystique. You can still climb up the structures and feel like you are seeing a relatively unexplored site. Being able to see the stars and hear the night sounds here at Genesis is all part of the unique experience this area provides. Thanks...

Lee has created a stunning retreat in Ek Balam. The environment is serene, the accommodations are cozy and the vegetarian food is a delicious blend of Mexican, Mayan and other cultures. Genesis is a refuge for injured animals who are well taken care of; Lee has such a big heart! It is a quick drive from Ek Balam which is...

Thank you for your comments. I love hosting animal lovers! We have 2 geese, a cat, a few chickens and two rabbits which have the run of the gardens in the morning. In the afternoons the dogs are out but mostly sleep in the sun and wait for a few pats from passing guests. When guests are not comfortable with...

A little in the middle of no man's land. Nothing to do so if you want to shop, watch tv, ect... don't book. Not so quiet dogs barking and cars running up and down the streets. Very clean and lovely. Wonderful owners very nice and doing as much as they can for local animals which I love. Food very peculiar...

You are absolutely right: we are far from the lights of Cancun but it is not a No Man´s Land! Our Maya neighbours are friendly and generous with their smiles and hospitality. The only real shopping is at the homes where womenweave hammocks, embroider garments and make tortillas by hand. It was a pleasure to have you here and glad...

Thank you Allsorts!! It is always a thrill to reconnect with returning guests. It is like no time has passed and we just pick up where we left off. I´m a very lucky to work with such like-minded, beautiful guests who consider the impact of their vacation choices before they book. May we meet again!

Unique set of bungalows and rooms set in a friendly, quiet Mayan village. Genesis is a garden full of trees and wildlife with a natural pool for swimming. The staff are super warm and welcoming. We stayed for 2 nights with our 15 month old son. The rooms are basic but comfortable. It's the place, location and the people that...
