For three couples 'of a certain age' the sight of David and Jane from East House and the Dovecote picking us up from Humsaugh after a thirty-one kilometre walk could not have been more welcome. And the cold beverages and warming food provided after a hot shower were even better. Quality accommodation, made all the more special by terrific hosts.

We stayed in the Dovecote one night, it is literally a converted dovecote set in a working garden with flowers, veg and an orchard. Jane made us very welcome with a cup of tea and biscuits before providing a pre-booked tasty evening meal of spaghetti bolognaise, served to everyone at their large table in the dining room. I loved the...

The Dovecote is situated on the Wall route and within a few minutes walk of Humsaugh village and Chesters Fort. We were greeted by Jane who showed us to the delightful Dovecote, a duplex type apartment with a 300 year history. We overlooked a lovely garden and greenhouse with lots of fruit just ready for scrumping. The one breakfast table...

We were greeted by Jane who saw how exhausted we were and immediately provided a pot of tea and cookies. After we were settled she offered to drive us to the local pub for dinner. Another couple was interested so we coordinated the time of drop off and pick up. Jane made it feel easy and not a bother. Our...

After a long hard walk, it was marvelous to find this lovely place. The garden is astonishing, simply amazing, a life's work by the host. Had a wonderful meal in Humshaugh, with door to door service by the host, and a quiet and pleasant night's rest after walking nearly 15 miles along the Wall trail to this place. A thoroughly...

Had a very pleasant stay at the Dovecote while walking Hadrian's Wall. We were in the main building (East House); friends had a multi-level room across the road. Property was the estate manager's residence of John Clayton's (the "man who saved Hadrian's Wall") estate Chesters. Our room was pre-1740. Gardens are expansive and lovely. Our Room was comfortable, if a...

I stayed here whilst walking Hadrian's Wall with my granddaughter. We could not have been made more welcome. We ate with other guests round a large table and both dinner and breakfast were excellent with lots of fresh produce from the lovely garden The room was clean and comfortable. Highly recommended

Had a good night's sleep in the grand east house. Good spacious room with ensuite shower. Lovely breakfast with welcoming hosts. We walked (about 15 mins) to Crown in village, lovely village pub with good food. Easy to get back to Wall path.

We feel very lucky to have spent the first night of our Hadrian's Wall walk in the Dovecote at East House. The gardens are spectacular and we enjoyed a lovely dinner and substantial breakfast with the other guests. I wish we could have stayed more than one night at this beautiful and friendly place. Highly reccomended!

We spent our second night here on our Hadrian wall walk. We had the luck of being lodged in the dovecot itself. Insist of this if it´s available! It is a two floor little building. The entire top floor is the sleeping room. The bottom floor has a modern and quite luxurious bathroom and a stove and sink. Not a...

“The Dovecote is a separate accommodation from the main house. It is an excellent choice for a quiet, peaceful stay. It is well equipped with a kitchen, sitting area and large upstairs bedroom. The TV in the bedroom has a DVD player and there are DVD's provided in the nightstand. That was a nice touch.”
