We were on the Brecon canal last week and whilst walking into Crickhowell saw the hotel and noticed it advertised "cake and coffee" in the afternoon and decided to return later as the hotel looked lovely. Although there was no-one at reception, a member of staff soon arrived and took us into the bar area where we explained to the lady at the bar that we had come to partake of the coffee and cake. The lady at the bar explained that the hotel had run out of cake and offered us a shortbread biscuit instead. We declined, reminding her that the offer was displayed on the hotel notice board at the entrance to the hotel. She explained that they had been meaning to remove the sign. It seems very strange that a 4 star hotel advertising afternoon teas has no cake, on a Friday afternoon in July!

A lovely stay in a beautiful house in a stunning location. We were bowled over with the welcome the owner gave us. Tea and Victoria Sponge was the perfect tonic for three tired Offa's Dyke walkers! Owner had also very thoughtfully booked us a table in the excellent village pub. Very comfortable and tastefully decorated rooms and very restful sleeps. Breakfast was delicious with many options. Certainly fired us up for the next fifteen miles!

Stayed here for 2 nights in July 2021. It's an ideal location for exploring the Brecon Beacons. We walked to Table Mountain (and got lost up there too!). Nice spacious room, albeit a little dated, with a big spa bath but unable to use as a shower as there was nothing to hold up the shower head and using it by hand resulted in puddles all over the floor. Staff were friendly and attentive, although it did seem they were a little understaffed at times. Generally, the food was good, although I was slightly puzzled to receive creamed cockles (apparently, a local thing) with a vegetarian breakfast. As a pescatarian, I was willing to give it a try but I'd imagine vegetarians would not be best pleased to find this on their plate. Having never tried creamed cockles before, I was surprised it was not made with fresh cockles but pickled - the type you get in a jar from a chip shop. Very odd! Overall though, a lovely hotel.
