Detailed Reviews
There once was a small town in France,
We ended up going there by chance.
A last minute booking,
After ten minutes of looking
And with that, a celebratory dance.
Unfortunately the hotel that we chose,
Had too few guests and thus had to close.
But no need to fear,
La Renardiere was here,
And this is how the story goes.
Stefan was in charge of the bar,
There is no choice but to give him 5 stars.
His selection of drinks,
Was perfect for prinks,
C'est difficile à dire au revoir.
Sophie was a jack of all trades,
Who became one of our closet comrades.
Her cooking was great,
Though the lasagne was late,
And the cards lacked a seven of spades.
Billie often served us our food,
Always with her gracious attitude.
She took care of us well,
A star of the hotel,
In a good light, she will always be viewed.
Emma went above and beyond,
Of her, we are rather fond.
She folded our clothes,
Whilst holding her nose,
The result? An unbroken bond.
The food was simply amazing,
Such as the chicken with incredible braising.
Andy and Nathan,
Deserve a Michellin ratin’,
To you, our glasses we’re raising.
Our bike mechs were Rory and Phil,
Its an understatement to say that they’re brill
The bikes went an extra mile
Despite Rory’s dodgy hairstyle
And we felt exhilarated when going down hill.
There was always a great deal to do,
Thanks to the activities crew.
With rafting and biking,
And boozing and hiking,
Dear reader, you should really come too.
If we had time we’d thank many more,
Such as Nate and Lavinia and Shaun.
Connor, Tom, Jake,
Every one was just great,
The hotel, and the staff, we adore.
Overall this holiday was bliss,
The staff and the guests we will miss.
Everything was divine,
We're now struggling to rhyme,
Much love - Tom, Tim, Toby and Chris.

We stayed at the Renardiere in early March. The chalet is located on the out skirts of town with a 10 to 15 minute walk into town. So be aware that you really need to leave your skis and boots somewhere in town. Therefore I suggest that you do not hire your ski package with Alpine Elements whom monopolise the chalet. Use a Ski hire company in Morzine that stores your equipment for you for the length of your stay. You will also have a far greater choice of newer equipment. This is by far the best option. There are places that offer storage for your own equipment for around 20 euros per week near the bottom of the Pleney lifts. You will have some time available on the Sunday afternoon to sort this out. We didn’t rush off to ski that first afternoon!
A word of warning! If you are or thinking of hiring your ski equipment from Alpine Elements. Their shop is on the other side of town. AE will run a bus to collect your gear and you can leave it to be picked up at the chalet at the end of your stay, which was excellent. BUT should you need to change anything boots etc. it was for us a two hour wait for a lift to the shop and missed the après ski etc. Alpine Elements have their own hire equipment shop and in Morzine had little selection and all equipment looked tired. In my opinion they do not have the quality to offer anything above their discovery (mid range) level of hire. So don’t waste your money as I did on performance equipment.
The chalet team all worked very hard to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The food was great. The room was small but adequate for three adults to share.
Alpine Elements are rather naughty by calling the Renardiere a hotel, so charge for wine with meals. But then have a chef’s night off, so then it becomes a chalet, the best of both worlds for AE, but not their clients.
Don’t use the bar if want a ‘on tap’ beer it is simply awful, flat and top price, stale beer in the pipes through lack of use etc. Try the microbrewery bar Bec Jaune, as real ale fans this place was great. The first bar you pass from the chalet into town. A jug of beer and nachos after skiing filled a corner, not cheap but what is on a ski trip! So many a night was had in there. The Hakka bar for après ski was also ok, cheaper beer in happy hour, but everyone has their favourites.
Alpine Elements are completely obsessed with feedback forms, texts more questionnaires. Yes, good to want feedback and try to improve your service, but not at the expense of being pestered on your holiday!
Better if we knew about the ski hire/storage prior to going. All in all a very enjoyable trip.

The staff were young, keen, friendly and brilliant. Rachel from Alpine Elements is lovely. Food great and I felt at home and would return in summer. The accommodation is basic but clean and comfy. Nice hot showers all the time.

The hotels web sites says it has been freshly decorated, but this is superficial. Old uncomfortable beds with spring sticking out of some. Some rooms were very hot and other cold. Showers were a dribble if your room had one. The food was a joke, especially the childrens food, a typical Childs meal was 3 chicken nuggets plus a few chips and baked beans followed by two balls of ice-cream. The bar wasn't well stocked, and the final insult was that staff slept in on our final morning and we had to wake the owner up and wait for them to get up and prepare breakfast. The owners are very friendly and helpful, but do not have a clue how to run a hotel. Rooms were rarely cleaned in our week in the hotel. Do not be taken in by the web site, this is not a funky hotel, it is a superficially decorated old run down hotel. Towels are grey sand paper and not fluffy white towels and the linen was anything but crisp and white.
The only reason we survived our week was that the group of 26 (adults and kids)of us made a joke about it, but it was not funny.

Dear elizabeth I, Thank you for your review. We are very sorry to read that you experienced some maintenance issues in your room during your stay as the majority of reviews for this property over the summer season have been extremely positive. Our team on site advises us that these maintenance issues were not reported to them until the penultimate day of your stay which is regrettable as we sincerely wish that they could have been addressed earlier. You have contacted us directly and we hope that we will be able to resolve this matter amicably. Kind regards, The Customer Care Team Alpine Elements Ltd

Hello there,
I went there in June and I wrote a review straight away to be able to help/warn people from Alpine Elements. I pasted the whole 2-page letter on here but of course it was moderated...
I would like to say the positives that I wrote:
I would like to start by saying thank you for so many things that we found excellent with Alpine Elements.
Graham Goddard was great with all the booking and preparation so I would like to extend our gratitude to him and his booking team in London.
I was amazed by the sheer professionalism of some of the Hotel Assistants at Le Renardiere particularly Jasmine and Jo (shy but very kind and professional). It was nice to come back after a long day out to find that your room was tidy and at times, your clothes folded. It meant a lot to us and they evidently went beyond the call of duty.
As for the food, I have never met a 20 year old as talented as Lewis – a lovely guy too which is strange for a chef! The food was outstanding and we were not expecting such high gastronomic standards. So thank you.
The bike mechanics Darren and Pete tucked away in the Scottish den were great too and very cheery and helpful. It was a pleasure to meet them.
As for the negatives, there were too many. The AE crew were just hell-bent on gaining commission and were just 'advertising' the lucrative activities (to them). Thonon-les-bains is an hour away on the bus and worth a visit where you can chill by the French side of Lake Genava. Not a mention of it.
Natasha, the manager was very inept and seemed to be on Facebook a lot. They messed up a lot of things expecially their lucrative trip to Chamonix. We left late as she had forgotten to prepare our packed lunches. We got there and she had no idea where to tell the driver to stop. I tried to help because I am bilingual but it was extra stress I didn't sign up for. What broke the camel's back was when we nearly missed our flight the next day. The lovely coach driver picked us up on time but the chalet assistant responsible for getting everyone else on that bus probably woke up late and missed the bus. We had to make a u-turn 40 minutes into our journey to the airport. A family on the bus were very worried as their plane left earlier than ours. Stress, stress and more stress!
Also, we were sold these multi-activity passes when 95% of these activities were not available in mid-June when we went. Surely, the manager would do their research?
A lot of families there were very disappointed and a lot of complaints were made unfortunately. It's a shame to those there who worked so hard to make sure we had a comfortable stay...
I would recommend going to Morzine, it is just so amazing but maybe not with that tour operator! For your peace of mind.
Enjoy if you do go!

+1
We have just returned from a week at La Renardiere with Alpine Elements. Alpine Elements I would say were pretty good overall, the staff definately made up for the shoddiness of the hotel. The hotel is in need of some work, however I think if you prepare yourself for this you won't be disappointed. The bar/restaurant area was lovely, the garden and pool, although a lot smaller than they look in the brochure, were lovely. Very few hotels in the area had a private outdoor area or pool. The rooms were basic and small but were clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathrooms were very outdated but perfectly functional. We had a problem when booking, as we had booked a quad room and were then informed that this was an error and that the room we booked was in fact a triple, so they added another room to the booking. With our children being only 8 and 10, we did not want them in a separate room, especially as it was on a different floor of the hotel, so my partner ended up in one room, with myself and the kids in the other, which we definately would not have booked for. We were offered bunk beds in one of the triple rooms but were told that there would not be room to swing a cat and no discount for over occupancy would be offered, which was really very poor service as the error was entirely Alpine Elements. Other hotel issues were the stained sofas in the lounge area and the smell of raw sewage on the outside steps. The hotel was however regularly cleaned and it seemed that the staff improved the issues that they had control of. The breakfast had a budget hotel feel to it, baguette, various jams, 3 types of cereal and breakfast which had different items each day, i.e. some days no sausage, some days no bacon, some days no hash browns etc. The cakes in the afternoon were average, however the evening meals were outstanding. Starters included risotto, rosti, roasted red pepper and tomato soup; and main meals included fish cakes, duck, tartaflette, chicken wrapped in bacon with mozzarella; the desserts included pannacotta, chocolate brownies, and berry crumble. The evening meals really were delicious and so well presented. The service at meal times was excellent.
The one issue that was not resolved whilst we were there, despite asking, was the staff dragging the table and chairs in the restaurant around at just after 7am each day, and just after 5am on the day of leaving. One of our rooms was directly above the restaurant and this woke us all every day, and this continued despite me asking if they could simply lift the furniture rather than drag it around on the wood floor.
The kids club rep was amazing, the activities offered within the kids club were great, not your usual hotel creche type set-up where you leave them in a room colouring for the day. The rep took them on half day trips out such as games by the river, raft building, orienteering, and trips up the mountains in the lifts. The rep was a qualified nursery nurse and quickly built up a good relationship with all the children in the hotel, of differing ages. She was also the most helpful and informative of the staff, she promptly got me a copy of her CRB disclosure faxed over from the UK, and had good knowledge of the local area. All the staff however were friendly and helpful.
The resort of Morzine itself was fantastic for families, it was more well populated and busier than I have seen in a ski resort before, probably around 1,000 hotels, and the main town, which was a 5-10 minute walk away was quite busy. There was lots to do in the local area, and the staff could arrange this for you. We did parapenting, which was fantastic, the company was called Aireole and it was 70 Euros each, plus 15 Euros for a cd of pictures and video. We did the white water rafting which was included in the free multi-pass, this was also very good, and calmer than we expected. The photos there are very expensive, between 25 and 35 Euros for the cd of photos (up to 10 photos). We attempted to take the bikes on a green run locally, the green runs are described as very easy and the description mentions that they are mostly on tarmac, mostly flat etc; which was largely inaccurate. We completed about 50 metres of the run before it got too crazy and we had to take a 3 1/2 hour detour along the main roads down to Les Gets and back again. We did not try that again. Parts of the green run had almost sheer drops with netting either side to catch you! Quite a few of the other residents sustained injuries on the green runs, including a lady who needed stitches. I would say that the green runs are very easy for very experienced mountain bikers, not normal bike riders, and certainly not suitable for children, although they are signposted as the family route!
We made good use of the lift passes and took many trips up the mountains which were breathtaking. We also walked to Lake Montriond, which took 1hr 45mins with the kids, and this was well worth the trip. The lake is beautiful and there are pony rides, 30 mins for 10 Euros, and you can hire paddle boards, kayaks, canoes etc. We hired a paddle board, 2 person canoe and 1 person kayak for 30 mins for only 19 Euros. There is a bus to and from the lakes, which is free with the multi-pass but the first bus is not until 1pm. We also took a horse and cart ride around town which was 20 Euros for about 30-40 mins.
We ate out in the town a few times, we would recommend La Grille and La Chavoyard. It is expensive to eat out however, 24 Euros for a steak, 21 Euros for frog legs, 6 Euros for a bottle beer. The hotel staff did not seem to mind people buying food from the supermarket at lunch time and eating it in the hotel, they provided plates and cutlery when asked.
The airline we flew with was called Small Planet and I would not book if this was the airline again, although at the time of booking you can upgrade to Easy Jet for £25 per person. Our flight home was delayed by 7 hours and the Alpine Elements staff did not appear to give us much information as to what was going on, we found we had to keep seeking staff out at the hotel and again at the airport for updates. One staff member, Adam, was however very helpful and informed us that they had not been given sufficient information by the Airline, which was why they had been vague in answering our questions. Adam spent some time sat with us on the floor at Geneva Airport as they closed the seating areas/shops/bars etc. This was a nice touch and it would have been appreciated if the other staff had acknowledged us occasionally while we were waiting, as they were also waiting for the incoming flight to arrive which was delayed but the staff appeared to go into hiding! One other point is that the female staff member who arrived with the coach to collect us for transfer to the airport was rude and curt.
However, despite the state of the hotel, the problem with the room booking, and the world's worst airline (with a fleet of two planes!), I would still recommend this hotel, and Alpine Elements. Just prepare yourself for a tired hotel, check and double check that they have booked the right room for you, and upgrade to Easy Jet flights!

July’s excursion saw me and a mate head to Morzine for a taste of mounting biking. We went with Alpine Elements via the net, who seemed helpful and prompt on the phone while booking in London. On arrival at Geneva we were greeted and taken straight by car to the Hotel (1 hour 10 minutes) with a few other guests. The hotel staff were extremely welcoming and we were shown to our room, without any delay. The bar seemed warm and comfortable (beers 4 Euro, with loyalty card), while the hot tub was inviting on a sunny clean deck, the garden was also in good order.
The rooms were basic but had everything required for s biking holiday. The bathroom window proved challenging to open while showering but I was just being greedy in wanting to see the amazing views while washing but a small price to pay as the balcony was spacious with room to relax and chill sat in a chair watching the sun fade into the valley.
So let’s get this correct the 2* Hotel Renardiere is for people who want to be comfortable while biking without room service and the luxuries of a 5* (see Madeira review, if you want this). It’s perfect for groups of bikers who wish to chill after hard days on the slopes situated in a fine location. The only issue with the company seemed to be with not the Hotel but Alpine elements (London) in the case of bikes included in the package are not suitable for the red runs! This was not mentioned on the phone! So an upgrade was required at 145 euro, but this did allow use of bikes for 6 day not 3 and staff in the workshop do a fine job making sure your bike is in working order for 9am start.
So the Stellar part of the hotel was the food which I have to say batted well above expectation (thank you Mark et al) not just with value but in regards to quality. The location which boasts fine views is a 7 minutes walk back after a night of festivities in town. But the main reason to choose the Renardiere was the kindness of the staff who were endlessly accommodating, late for breakfast, dinner or just need help with where best bike runs. Manager David and his team made a first class job in making our stay enjoyable and super value, thank you all.

Sorry, but we stayed in standard rooms, not the apartment annexe. The other rooms just have normal size beds, suitable for all.
Dear Miss JKT
The quad rooms have 4 single beds in one room.
We would recommend that you enquire about the annexe apartment at this property which offers separate sleeping arrangements with a double bed and bunk beds and which may be more suited to your needs.
Kind regards
The Alpine Elements Team
They do ask before you book if you have any specific dietary requirements and I am sure if you contact them they will be most obliging
