A very sweet team that meant well from the time we arrived until the departure. Vincent at the restaurant/bar was really friendly and always available for room service. The food was excellent and we enjoyed the breakfast in our room with the sea view. The adjoining rooms for the family worked out great. Great location with lots of options for walks, not far from the city center.
Not on the usual tourist routes, but this hotel featured outstanding ocean views and beachside location. It was the best hotel in kind of drab town. It Was it a 20 minute walk along a beautiful beach side path that took you into a small, kind of unexciting village. The hotel needs upgrading, much better bathroom facilities to match the four star rating, new linens and bigger beds, and a paint job. Staff was accommodating, but not all that helpful. If you are on the Atlantic coast of France and want to stop over, a night or two would be OK but nothing more. We must make special mention of the Nextdoor beach which was convenient, and be in September, quite lovely. They also had a Thalasso spa which was a hilarious giant heated saltwater pool with jets, cascading showers, a jet bed, underwater bicycle, and lots of other fun things to do. Since there are not too many great eateries in town we might as well stay at the hotel and eat dinner at the restaurant there. A little pricey but the food was regional and good. …
The hotel was booked as a stopover on route to the Bordeaux region. It over looks the sea and a small beach area in Royan, with lovely sea front walks either side from the front of the hotel which proofed to be valuable as we were staying with our two pet dogs. The rooms are of a decent size, clean and well maintained and the restaurant which served a good range of local produce was pleasant but maybe a touch expensive. As we only stayed one night I might be unfair of me to comment but I personally never saw the attraction of Royan as a holiday destination however the Hotel Cordouan was definitely a good choice to stay overnight at.
The hotel was great for the relaxing break we needed. The outdoor pool was excellent with beautiful sea views. The room was spotlessly clean with the same views over the bay. The only complaint is the use of disposable paper cups for the coffee making facilities. The Spa was not the best equipped I have ever seen but it was adequate and enjoyable. The staff were all excellent with great language skills. We booked underground parking. However the hotel carpark was large and adequate. The only problem really was that the hotel location is quite a way from the restaurants and centre of the town and some of the local taxis are rather unscrupulous charging 14 euros for a three minute journey.
Great hotel staff nice and friendly the only thing that let it down a little for a 4☆ is the outside of the building needs a little TLC and the paper cups in rooms otherwise this is a great hotel and I really enjoyed my stay .
We stayed here for a short break last week. It was a really lovely hotel, yes it wasn't traditionally French, but it didn't matter. We booked through Expedia and were booked into a standard room. When we arrived at reception we were offered an upgrade to a full sea view room for an extra 20euros per night. We decided to go for it and we weren't disappointed at all. We had a private balcony overlooking the spa area and an amazing sea view of the harbour. We were lucky with the weather it was about 24 degrees every day, we even went to the beach one day. We didn't have the breakfast option as at 17 euros each we felt this was too expensive. We also didn't eat in the hotel as we preferred to walk down to the port to eat typically French food with an array of seafood options. The staff at the hotel were always very pleasant and informative. We hired bikes directly from the hotel one day and cycled along the coast to st palais sur mer. It was a lovely ride and we stopped off for a baguette and a beer on the way back. the spa area was great we went every day the only thing is you do need to wear swimming caps and if you don't have one you have to wear a plastic shower cap. Lovely relaxing break in beautiful setting. Will definitely go back again. …
We stopped at this hotel a few years ago, and liked it so much we decided to use it again on our journey from the Costa Blanca back to the UK. We stayed for 2 nights, so that we could explore the Royan area a lot more. We also booked a sea view room, which was well worth it. The hotel is well situated on the edge of a peninsular which juts out into the Atlantic ocean. We made full use of the inside swimming pool, but did not use the lovely outside pool due to poor weather. We love this hotel, but there are a couple of down points. Firstly, although the rooms are beautiful, all with balconies with great views, the toilet and wash room are a bit small. Also, we found on our stay this time, that the food & drinks were a bit costly, which meant we ate out.
Expensive for the area ,and does not live up to cost promoted hype. Any request for pre arrival information is completely ignored which caused chaos on arrival. Certainly would recommend any interested parties taking this hotel on face value as excellent ? would be well recommended to book elsewhere at the many other lively hotels in the area. With decent human PR
Well worth its four stars. We loved this hotel. Stayed for 5 nights at the end of August. View from all areas of the hotel is amazing, staff throughout the hotel are friendly, professional and go out of their way to accomodate. The evening meal - we took the Menu Complet was exceelent and good value compared to other restaurants in the area. The room was spacious with a fabulous sea view, large comfortable bed and good double pull out sofabed. Housekeeping was immaculate l The spa was an added bonus. Great location on the headland with a coastal path to walk either way. Right next door to a small beach and large tennis centre. Would definitely and hope to go back. Thanks Hotel Cordouan.
Hotel Cordouan is located on a headland with wonderful views. Our room was large and airy, the air con efficient. The furniture was slightly scuffed and I felt slightly flimsy- a refit would do the wonderful setting justice. A tea tray was most welcome- but paper cups!! The bathroom had been upgraded - but the towels are somewhat small and thin! The staff we encountered were charming and helpful and always cheerful. Breakfast had a wide ranging choice and was most pleasant. Dinner was always delicious- imaginative use of local ingredients well presented. All in all a lovely hotel - with excellent indoor and outdoor pools. We would revisit the hotel but would like to see the minor issues I've mentioned addressed . I only point these issues out as otherwise the hotel is so charming. They should aim high.…
