Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Enjoy. Catherine is a great person to welcome guests. Her advice about where to eat is useful. The hotel offers a wonderful view of the sea, beach and sky. At any time of the day. The terrace bar at the casino is good as are the staff.

I have been there once but I won't go there twice : no climatisation just a ventilator with 35 celsius degrees, no property car park, small rooms even if nicely decorated, bed not on level for a 3 stars hotel and so on.

The Miramar is situated right opposite a lovely, totally clean & spacious Sandy beach. The staff are very welcoming - although their English is limited but, hey, us Brits aren’t known for our foreign language skills either, are we? It provides the opportunity to practise making more of an effort to communicate in French. Everything was really pleasing & I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t enjoy this hotel - except the usual moaning Minnies, of course! Their website has an English translation, which not every hotel’s did, so booking is super easy. Miramar has our highest recommendation! 😘

Stay clear of this place the owner is probably the worst person I have ever come across in France. We arrived at 1930 hrs, parking was a bit of a nightmare but we had found a place and carried our bags 200m to the Hotel, when we approached reception we found the front door was locked. We went back out of the canopy and saw a lady sitting on a balcony on the 3rd floor, we asked if the Hotel was closed, she said no there should be someone around, at that point a ground floor shutter opened and a man appeared eating a sausage. I smiled and asked if he was part of the staff, he said he was not part of the staff but was the owner very aggressively. I asked him if he had a double room for the night to which he said yes I have lots, but have you booked? I said that we had left a message on their answerphone late last night as we were driving and were on our way back from Spain to the UK. He said he had no record of the booking, are you full then I asked, to which he replied that he was nearly empty but was eating his dejeuner and was not prepared to open up for us with no booking. Things then became heated and it was quite clear that this guy was totally anti-British. A really horrible man who should not even be in a service business. He kept saying that he was the owner and he could do what he wanted. My wife and I were so shocked and upset by his behaviour that we went back to the car and drove another 50 miles and found another Hotel completely out of the area. My wife and I wanted to stay in the Miramar as I had stayed there as a boy with my parents while on holiday many years ago. The hotel certainly had a different owner at that time. We can only assume this horrible chap took the attitude because it was the time when the press was saying that the English had taken all the Covid vaccinations and decided he was going to vent his wrath on us. My wife and I are pensioners and this episode certainly upset us for the rest of the trip and for a couple of weeks after, but I feel the experience should be shared with others. The Hotel does seem to have mainly positive reviews so one has to assume this is an isolated incident. Whatever the reason as a minimum this guy should get some anger management therapy.

This hotel was perfect. Situated on the sea front the restaurant and bar enjoys full beach aspect. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the rooms were very attractive, comfortable and clean. Free parking to the rear and our dog was also made welcome.

Our room was well-appointed (although no water or coffee) and the bathroom was newly renovated with attractive tiles and fixtures. However, the price was nearly €100 per night and breakfast was extra! And this was a room without a sea view... It was also too small to be usable for even an average-sized adult. For example, you could not dry yourself in the bathroom after a shower because there wasn't enough room to use the towel without smacking your arms or elbows on at least 2 of the walls! Good double-glazing for sound-proofing but no parking on-site... the free parking appears to be in nearby streets and not as advertised here on Tripadvisor. Finally, why do all hotels seem to buy-in to the idea that a bed as firm as the floor is the way to go? Our mattress was practically solid and not conducive to a restful night's sleep. Overall, if you absolutely have to stay on the sea-front and don't mind the cost and don't have a nice car you'll have to leave on the street, this hotel will work. Otherwise, keep looking.

Well-situated hotel opposite the beach and good choice of restaurants very close by. Very clean, well decorated hotel and room. Bed very comfortable. Friendly and helpful personnel. Breakfast was adequate but there are no other eating facilities in the hotel (no room service, no coffee or tea in the room etcetera). Parking is very limited and we were fortunate to have the only space in the single garage.

We stayed here for three nights. The hotel very clean our room's bathroom had recently been redone and the bedding was excellent. The staff were outgoing and both very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was abundant with an excellent variety. We also loved the location with a room overlooking the beach quiet as the windows noise-proofed traffic. Recommend without hesitation.

This was our second visit to this hotel, having stayed here for 2 nights at the recommendation of friends last year. We returned for another 2 night break as we enjoyed the previous visit to the area so much. We generally want service & cleanliness in hotels, as for short breaks we really only want to enjoy a good nights sleep in a good bed & a clean room. The Miramar, has wonderful staff, most noticeably Alexia,. She is a delight & provides the most charming & warm welcome upon arrival. Additionally , Laurent, the patron is the most delightful host, who is utterly determined that his guests should enjoy their stay. On our first night we were unable to get a taxi , not uncommon in France, & Laurent stepped in & drove us to the Restaurant. We naturally offered to pay but he was insistent that he was happy to have obliged & been of service. Wonderful!! As an aside, both Alexia & Laurent speak reasonable English. The hotel itself is located in a prime position overlooking the bay at Pontaillac. We stayed in room 21 which has a juliette balcony with ocean/bay view, a very comfy firm super sized bed with walk in shower & separate toilet. Tea & coffee plus mini bar fridge & a ceiling fan, wardrobe with multiple hangers. The room was very clean with good white linens & ocean themed decor , & was perfect for our two night stay. We shall be returning again later in the season & will be opting for one of the superior ocean view rooms which offers more overall space & a double aspect view, being on the front/corner of the building. We don't take the breakfast option as prefer to eat lunch out, but the buffet of cereal, toasts, boiled eggs & pastries looked appealing. A stay at the Miramar is highly recommended as a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding area or Royan, Saint Palais etc. & is within a short stroll from cafés , bars & the beach front casino at Pontaillac. NB passport required to gain entrance to the casino. ENJOY.

Pleasant hotel, clean and well run. Best part was the central location in lovely Royan and the terrace overlooking the main beach. As Royan has expanded along the coast it is a fair (but lovely) walk to the marina and best restaurants. Great cycling facilities!!!
