Hosts were lovely. Evening meal was available and good quality Bedroom and communal areas were clean. Room was large, bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was well prepared with a good choice. Would happily visit again.

Had dinner here twice in a week and the atmosphere, food, service were really good. Second visit we ate in the bar, first visit upstairs in the dining room, both had a warm feeling and were welcoming. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive to our needs. On each occasion the food was good, portions large and good value for money. Can recommend this place.

It takes a lot for me to leave a poor review. They forgot part of our drinks order because it was not alcoholic, they served a meat dish to a vegetarian and they started to clear our plates whilst we were eating and when the replacement veg meal had just come out. Not great.

We booked one night in a King room and weren't disappointed . Thus we stayed a second night. Large room with King Size bed, beautifully decorated. Owners Louise and husband could not have been more helpful. Great location overlooking the marketplace. Great location for those wanting to explore the many walks along Hadrians Wall / Pennines etc etc. Breakfast was to die for. We had dinner one night in the Hotel and it was great . We Highly recommend this gorgeous hotel.

We called in here a couple of years ago and it’s the same landlord which we take as a good sign of a well run pub! The food is spot on, kids portions of the adult meals instead of frozen pizza or fish fingers, one of my pet hates! We spent £44 on 5 meals and it was worth every penny so would recommend wholeheartedly to come here for food, drinks and a lovely pub atmosphere x

We stayed at the Golden Lion for the weekend when attending a wedding at nearby Langley Castle and we could not have made a better choice. We were greeted by our wonderful hosts, Richard and Louise, and taken to our beautiful rooms. Rooms are well equipped and very comfortable. En suites are also very stylish. The restaurant was great and food and service fantastic. Continental breakfast was also super and some of us opted for the hot breakfast which was excellent. The pub is full of atmosphere and clearly well loved by locals and visitors alike. We really cannot recommend the Golden Lion highly enough and can’t wait to return!

After a few hiccups with some temporary managers, I pleased to report the “The Golden Lion” is back on form, dined there last night, when ordering we were informed it may take up to a hour, which we were prepared to wait, pleasantly surprised when our excellent food turned up less than 20 minutes later. I’m pleased to say the food was well presented by friendly smiling staff. Well done everybody at the Golden Lion, so pleased your back on top form.

Friendly and welcoming staff dog friendly. Due to a reportedly busy day many items on the menu not available. Food served reasonable for bar food. Frozen chips although tasty. Food presented well. Had beef burger and chips which was good. Friend had scampi and chips. Popular with the locals for drinks
