We stayed here in March with our friends. It was a wonderful surprise and certainly exceeded our expectations. Christina and Curt were gracious hosts. We enjoyed the pristine swimming pool overlooking the ocean. It was an unforgettable experience to be there on the first morning of the Turtle Arrival phenomenon. Our friends had done their research prior to our visit to determine when the arrival could happen. (Just before a new moon.) We were ecstatic to discover that we had hit it exactly and were told that the turtles would be arriving during our first night. Christina and Curt gave us instructions on where to witness the event. We left at 4:30am to Ostional beach to find a volunteer guide as per instructions from our hosts. We were taken to the beach in the dark using infrared flashlights to witness the arrival of thousands of turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs. (You are not allowed on the beach without a volunteer guide during the Turtle Arrival period, no flashlights or car headlights allowed) Unbelievable! Gave us goose bumps. We went out again the next morning but for some reason there were fewer turtles, still a wonderful experience. So fun to go back to the Turtle House each morning after our turtle adventure to share our experience with Curt and Christina over the most delicious breakfast they had prepared for us each morning. Our only regret is not being able to stay longer. The serene beauty of the place was food for the soul. Breathtakingly beautiful. We would not hesitate to visit again and recommend Turtlehouse B&B to all travelers.…
The location, the atmosphere and the elegant architecture of Turtlehouse is unique. We woke up at sunrise listening to a flock of howler monkeys passing the house, sat on the porch with an early coffee viewing the busy humming birds, the green and blooming trees and bushes and green canopies in front of the always changing colors of the Pacific Ocean. Watching the sun disappear in the ocean at night, might be even more spectacular. The house is an adventure in itself: the luxury and classical architecture which at the same time brings nature close. Thanks to Christina and Curt, we were able to stay at Turtlehouse for almost one month. And it did us good. In the area there are several uncrowded, spectacular beaches for swimming or surfing, and small restaurants for well tasting local food or even gourmet meals. But maybe the most impressing experience was to witness the hundreds or thousands of sea turtles arriving the nearby Ostional beach. So special that we felt that we were in the middle of Sir David Attenborough’s BBC show, The Blue Planet. For anyone who wants to experience the best of Costa Rica, jungle, rich animal life, beaches, friendly people and at the same time stay in a luxury house with a beautiful pool area, Turtlehouse is the choice. Our trip to Costa Rica hit a high point while visiting Turtlehouse! It is a bit off the beaten track but so worth the trip. The house was amazing and the views spectacular! My family and I enjoyed relaxing in the pool and enjoyed evenings spent watching the sun set over the ocean. Just unforgettable! Christina and Curt have made sure the house is welcoming and comfortable for all! Even though we didn't get to see any turtles on this trip, we enjoyed exploring the recommended beaches and seeing monkeys, iguanas and amazing flowers. I just can't say enough about this place and highly recommend Turtlehouse B&B to friends, family and to all on TripAdvisor!!
Our trip to Turtle House began in 2017 when we took a day trip from Playa Del Coco to Ostional and saw thousands of hatched egg shells laying on the beach above high tide line. We even saw tracks where 6 females had come on the beach during the night by tracks in the sand but didn’t see any turtles! On the road to the beach we saw their sign and once back home made contact and even made a reservation 10 months in advance for two nights when there was a new moon during February 2018. We kept in touch with Curt and Christina prior to our arriving in Costa Rica and were really looking forward to seeing the turtles and if lucky see little ones heading back to sea. Christina sent directions from Coco and gave a warning “Do not let GPS bring you over the mountain!!” Well three hours later than we wanted we drove up to this gorgeous dwelling, yes we came over the mountain but that’s another story but I must add my passenger didn’t wait till 5 for cocktails. I can’t say enough about the beauty of this home and all I could say to Curt was “If Christina brings you the apple don’t eat it and have to leave this Garden of Eden”. They are such gracious hosts and due to Curt and my background in construction we immediately bonded. They showed us our room, which was the upstairs suite, and the view from it’s balcony was breath taking. Because my wife and I were unsuccessful the first night in locating turtles our hosts accompanied us the second night and we were successful. Then the morning we were due to check out Christina accompanied us at 6 back to the beach where we saw 50-60 females in varying stages of coming ashore, returning to the ocean and all phases in between. A very successful trip and plans are to return again in 2019. From the nightly cocktails to the French pressed coffee to the over the top breakfasts this is a five star stay in a one star area where the beach is the focal point for turtles and surfing. Thanks Curt and Christina for an unforgettable adventure and already looking forward to next year! Clay & Kathy…
To thoroughly experience and enjoy this relatively remote area of Costa Rica. We LOVED our brief time at Turtlehouse B&B. Christina and Curt are wonderful hosts, and their house is a spectacular place to stay! We were made to feel at home straight away! I am recommending Turtlehouse B&B to my friends, and here on TripAdvisor. We were mesmerized by the sunsets on their beautiful, forest-surrounded decks, and well-fueled in the morning by sumptuous breakfasts. But most of all, we enjoyed getting to know our hosts, their life in Costa Rica, and their knowledge of this area. Thanks again Christina and Curt! Kris, Don and Ilona
