YHA Rowen must not be confused with a hotel, 4 star or otherwise. It takes real effort to access it up a very steep (1in 3 slope in the last kilometre) tarmacked single track road. If driving, pray their is no on-coming traffic; maybe park...More

I loved this little YHA, it felt different from others I've stayed at. Because it's quite small it feels very comfortable talking to other hostellers and it's great to find out what others are doing. The warden was a volunteer which feels a bit weird...More

This is not your everyday youth hostel. First of all, it's at the top of a steep road up a mountainside, meaning the moment you arrive, you are greeted by gorgeous views of Welsh countryside. It's in a an old farmhouse that has been well-maintained....More

Amazing view from the outside area, very comfortable bedroom and common areas, be aware of the step hill on your way there if you are traveling by car, also take care of the parking since it is a small house there is not too much...More

A rustic youth hostel in stunning surroundings. The hostel is situated up a steep hill about 2km from the village of Rowen. With a gradient of 1:4 the climb to the hostel is quite tough but the views are worth every step! An ancient burial...More

About
Description
The hostel’s unique farmhouse character has been retained, whilst the interior has been transformed to provide modern, contemporary and comfortable accommodation for 20 guests.Rowen youth hostel is More located 830 ft above the Conwy Valley, giving unrivaled views of the valley, the mountains of Snowdonia and the nearby Conwy estuary. The youth hostel was established in 1948 when YHA acquired the farmhouse at Rhiw farm, the adjacent farm buildings remaining, as they do today, in agricultural use. It will come as no surprise to visitors to learn that rhiw in Welsh means a steep place; to reach YHA Rowen it is necessary to negotiate a single track metalled road with sharp bends and gradients peaking at 1:3. So arriving at the hostel can be an adventure in itself; but that said, no difficulty should be encountered by drivers of the average car in reaching the hostel, simply engage first gear and take your time. One tip, if it's your first visit it would probably be better to arrive in daylight. Once there the hostel has quite extensive parking available. The garden at Rowen youth hostel is terraced and has two main parts; the upper area by the main entrance is a (relatively) level lawn and is furnished with a picnic bench and garden seat, while at the lower level there is a damson orchard and an area for lighting small fires. Both these areas give extensive views over the Conwy valley with the estuary and the sea being visible from the lower boundary. Being situated at the terminus of the metalled road and high above the valley means there is a total absence of traffic noise, a rare thing these days, the only sounds being those of the sheep and the birds.
