We stayed 4 days at Cortijo Valavero. What an amazing place! High up in the mountains close to Lujar. Not only the cortijo and the surroundings are beautiful. Don´t forget Vanessa, your hostess and the owner of the place. What a great woman……no nonsense and really down to earth. We had great conversations and spend a day in Granada with her. She showed us places you normally can´t find as a tourist. Thank you again for a beautiful day! Nothing is too much for her, she really makes you feel at home, makes overwhelming breakfasts and serves wonderful dinners too. And then there is Jorge, a nice quiet man. You can find him in the garden. Always working on the land and the mountain. The whole cortijo is very clean, rooms are great and in the bathroom there is everything you need. Last summer, there was a terrible fire on the mountain, which cost Vanessa most of her beautiful trees and so much more, but we´re so happy for her that her home was saved. It still looks strange, all these black trees, but you can see a year later now, that the surroundings are growing again. Which is great for them. Chilling by the wonderful pool, or zipping from homemade sangria while sitting on one of the terraces, you will find yourself in paradise. Vanessa, you, Jorge and the rest of your team are doing a fabulous job and we hope to come back one day very soon.

We stayed at this B&B for a week and enjoyed every minute of it. We were informed by Vanessa (the owner and hostess) that a serious fire had struck the surroundings, but miraculously, their house remained undamaged and intact. And what a beautiful place it is. Our room had a big and comfortable bed and a nice and spacious bathroom. The immaculate rooms were cleaned every day. No TV in the room, but we didn't miss that at all.The area is so quiet and peaceful that I slept much better than at home. Breakfast was excellent. Most of the nights, Vanessa cooks dinner for her guests. No dazzling presentations, but when it comes to taste, we were never disappointed! Very tasty food, all prepared with local products. Vanessa was the perfect hostess. From the first minute we felt at home. She knows the area so well that being prepared for the trip is hardly necessary... We would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who loves good food, nature and peace. We don't normally visit places twice but this place might be the exception...

We, a young 50 years old Belgian couple, visited the cortijo in the beginning of september for three days, we noticed immediately that our stay was to short, we could have stay at least one or two weeks. We couldn't give one negative point, everything was super, the reception, the stay, the crew, ..., at least the other guests. Vanessa is the owner and from the first moment she gives us a personal welcome, she gives perfect advice for walking, she is an amazing cook, she is also an amazing interlocutor. Her father was also on the cortijo and is a complete gentleman. The environment is amazingly with a wide view on the mountains. The atlantic is in view. You can make nice trips with the bike and the motorbike. One remark, to arrive with the motorbike is not so easy, you have to drive the last kilometer on an earthen road. Finally, a really recommandation.

My wife and I recently returned from a crazy 3-week trip throughout Spain in which we saw 8 different locations and stayed in 7 hotels/b&b’s. Cortijo Valavero was our favorite. The setting for this hotel was amazing. It has wide views of the mountains, rolling hills, sea and olive groves. It was also near the quaint small village of Lujar that, if marketed correctly, could easily be called a white village. You can also hike the surrounding areas and visit wonderful busy or secluded beaches. If for some reason you don’t want to stay for Vanessa’s wonderful cooking there are also many other choices in nearby coastal towns. After seeing the great reviews on Trip Advisor we looked up their website. Yes it is all in Dutch and most of the patrons are Belgians. Don’t let this worry you. Vanessa, the owner and her father, speak fluent English and the Belgian guests were extremely welcoming and included us Canadians in all the evening conversations. Actually the evenings were one of the most pleasant parts of our stay. Evenings start with some homemade hors d'oeuvres that were shared with other guests around a candlelit table. You can also select your own bottle of wine from a well-stocked cellar and if you don’t finish it you just put your room number on it and finish it the next day. The highlight of the evening was Vanessa’s traditional Spanish cooking. Her oxtail and paella were some of the best meals we had in Spain. In fact, the oxtail exceeded the oxtail we ate 3 days earlier at a 1 Michelin star restaurant. Vanessa was also always available to help you plan your daily excursions and was patient in giving us detailed driving instructions, which were better than our GPS. The instructions ended with….if you get lost call me. When they welcome you and say, “our house is your house” they mean it. We rarely go back to the same spot in our travels because we like to experience new sites and locations. This may be the one of the few exceptions. Thank-you for a wonderful stay!

We (2 couples + - 40 years old) visited the Cortijo first week of july. Beglian friends advised us this fantastic small hotel. The bed- and bathrooms are nice and very clean, The paella evening and all other meals are very well prepared and very nice served. It is so quiet, nice walking in all directions but also close to the sea., biking, swimming..... Very good Belgian beers, perfect breakfast etc, etc, etc......
