I enjoyed my stay with my Family very much. The Hotel lies at the shoe of the River Mekong and gives a lot of opportunities to simply relax. The shopping street with numerous Restaurants is when you walk out the hotel. Excellent street food vendors.
The hotel is an old wooden house well restored the rooms are cosy and clean. Beds comfortable. I would have put more efforts on the lighting thus! The location is good right on the lively Chiang khan walking street and some rooms enjoy the view of the Mekong! At the reception we were received by a very nice and helpful guy speaking an excellent English. However it is way too noisy, all throughout the night and into the morning there were all sort of them. From people loudly chatting away to a strange engine turning on and off... motorbikes and cars, loud music... I could go on and on. The strangest issue was about the breakfast. We were told that we could only have an oriental breakfast with conge and generally pork soup. That was awkward! Also the place were it was served was not very pleasant and definitely with questionable cleanliness issues. We, as vegetarian were taken aback! The efforts of the reception staff to go around buying an handful of continental breakfast items was kind but definitely not up to a boutique hotel and its price.…
Even though being locals, we were first time visitors to this riverside town. It is a place well worth experiencing and a return visit is on the cards. The Royal Chiangkhan suited our needs, being in a good state of repair and very clean. The town is so small so convenience is pretty much a given. You don't get to have a river front view though but if you opt for the third floor you can just about glimpse the majestic Mae khong river. Sleep is adequate even though noisy in the morning from the street bustle, all the town hotels will suffer this disadvantage. Kudos to the receptionist staff who pretty much single handedly received guests and cleaned the whole building !
If you are looking to push the boat out a bit budget-wise, for 1200 baht this is a superb and luxurious place to stay. It was immaculately clean and had an extremely comfortable bed, plus the shower was divine. The woman at reception was extremely welcoming and friendly. Would highly recommend and would go back again in a heartbeat.
