Stayed for one night at the Ban Hao B&B after arriving in Chaing Khan wanting a place to stay – where the majority of Hotels and B&B’s were all booked up. The friendly owner managed to accommodate us for the one night for 500 baht which was cheap compared to the majority of the other accommodation within the centre of Chaing Khan. Although the Hotel / B&B is dated and the rooms were basic and had shared bathroom facilities. It still made our stay in this wonderful place a memorable one and I look forward to visiting Chaing Khan in the future. The accommodation is on Soi 5 and is a short walk down to Walking Street which is full of Food Vendors, Shops and the Nighlife of Chaing Khan. Plus the views of the Mekong River and Laos from the walkway are stunning. If you’re prepared to wake up early, the owner will prepare some food for 50 baht to give to the monks who walk the streets for blessings – they passed the Ban Hao B&B around 6.25am, so you need to get up early to see this and something that Chaing Khan is special for.…
Just a shame the balcony door didn't lock as it would be easy for someone to break in from another room if someone wanted to. Decided to stay another night since I slept well. I asked for a new room the first morning I woke because of the balcony door, toilet was leaking water when flushing from the handle and there was a banging noise coming from the upstairs room at about 10am. Ended up staying in the same room as the cleaners said there's always a noise throughout the hotel... Second morning the cleaner was apparently told to knock at 8:30am because we were supposedly checking out. The room was then phoned at 8:45am to see if we were checking out again. Gym is not free, only 125 baht. I asked for a free pass since I was woken by the hotel, this was not possible. The morning after I had my evening meal at the hotel restaurant I had a sore stomach and was on the toilet several times. Room has dust on the walls. Table at breakfast still had bread crumbs on it, we were the only people at breakfast at the time so I'm sure someone could have cleaned up before us as there were plenty staff walking around. If I wasn't woken up or they had compensated us with a gym pass I would not have written this review and would be more than happy with my stay. …
Ban Hao was a great place to spend the night. The location is perfect- just a block away from the main walking street along the river. The hotel itself is a quaint house with a nice balcony on the second floor. The room was comfortable and clean. The shared bathroom was also kept in good condition. The owner of the hotel and her sister really made for a great stay. I was stuck inside because it was raining out and she invited me to join them for dinner. Such a generous gesture! In the morning, she even gave me a ride to the bus stop. I definitely felt well taken care of and had a great night's sleep.
The guesthouse is family run and in central location the rooms are of good size internet is running well and the owners are friendly and helpful with any kind of information you might need. The center with walking street is just 300m away so you are close enough to Mekong and shopping.
