We passed by this hotel this Summer, had a drink on the terrace and just loved it for the view. We booked this hotel then for a short trip this fall (lake view side) and the view is just astonishing. Staff was very friendly, and we were upgraded to a renovated room (wooden flooring and bathroom redone). Interestingly, when we stayed there it was rainy and the brook/creek on the southwest side of the hotel carried lots of water in a waterfall type fashion with quite a noise level - we had to close the window at night (too bad) to buy able to sleep, which was too bad.
Our visit in this hotel will be unforgetable . The Room is spoiling , modern with amazing lake view . The Staff is so so kind and dedicated . Manuela , Yusu, Amazing Ulnke served us with so much patient and a big smile .these guys likes thier job . If I'll be in Ascona , Iwould defently come back to this hotel.highly recommended
all rooms with panoramic view over Lago Maggiore, also very good restaurant with nice terrace (international cooking), gorgeous breakfast, fantastic swimmingpool on roof with splendid panorama the whole hotel - modestly called "albergo" - has an overall fantastic view on the lake
We have been staying here for two nights each year for some years now and always have a good time. However this year we were slightly disappointed. Our room had dead flowers on the table so we left them outside the door ....and they stayed there for the duration of our stay! The food was definitely not as good as in previous years....one of the main courses did not look attractive and tasted just as bad. We were offered the fish instead but declined. The brand of champagne has changed and is inferior ( a minor detail but just added to the disappointment). Breakfast is still excellent. Just wonder if this hotel is trading on it's glorious location which is hard to beat. Just a shame we came away feeling that things had changed.
We had a wonderful time at Casa Berno! The staff are incredibly nice and friendly, and they were super patient with our one year old son, particularly at the restaurant for the breakfast buffet, and for a more formal dinner at the terrace restaurant. The buffet breakfast was excellent (fresh fruit, baked goods, eggs, etc), as was the dinner (my wife had the Penne al’arrabiata and I had the beef tagliata. Both recommended). We were initially a bit worried about the hotel’s isolated location, which is about 15 minutes from the main promenade in Ascona (but is a roughly ~200 meter climb!), but they have complimentary shuttle service several times throughout the day, which is totally sufficient for getting to and from the hotel (though depending on your plans, it may require a little planning). That being said, the last shuttle back to the hotel from downtown is at 5:40, so if you plan to go out for dinner, you’ll need to plan for a taxi back to the hotel (~20-25 CHF). Walking back to the hotel is also an option - it is quite scenic, and very peaceful. Though (as mentioned) the uphill walk may be strenuous for some, my 6-months-pregnant wife was able to do it without too much trouble. An additional note, at the end of our stay they were kindly able to provide a complimentary ride (with our big pile of luggage) directly from the hotel to the Locarno train station - which was a big help! The room itself was also great. Incredibly clean with a private balcony that had a breathtaking view of Lago Maggiore. Not much more you could possibly ask for, especially given the reasonable price. We had more than our fair share of espressos while reading on the balcony/enjoying the view. In summary, we had a wonderful stay, and should we (hopefully!) find ourselves traveling to Ticino again we would absolutely stay at Casa Berno.…
