We had the chance to stay in this hotel during a week for hiking ski. The staff was wonderful, attentive to details and friendly. Special thanks to Sandra, Nathalie, Roberto and Antonino, and the back-of-the-house team for their great commitment to make us feel at home. The affordable half board menu has regularly a Grison touch and is very tasty. The Walther family should also emphasise the fact that the hotel is involved in the glacier sustainable project! Well done! The hotel is a great location for skiing In Diavolezza or going to St Moritz.
When you come to Pontresina in between seasons you need a little luck because so much is shut down. Good thing for me that Hotel Steinbeck was up to the task. I was picked up by a free shuttle offered from the train station by request - uphill in the rain was my alternative. The driver handled everything right into my room. The front desk was busy but another staff quickly appeared to check me in. I chose a simpler double room for just me for a few CHF more and it was worth it. Nice modern wood furnishings. Roomy clean bathroom with a wonderful tub and HOT water to soak in after a cold wet day. The room was quiet & at night the window open was really nice. Nice bed. They are prepared to book excursions for you including the Bernina Express. Their shuttle will take you around town free. For 20 CHF they took me to either St Moritz or Samedan - in my case the Samedan train station to catch the Glacier Express. They also give you a pass to use the local public transport & mountain lifts. I used it to come back from the train station after hours - the bus brings you UP the hill for a short level walk to the hotel. You have access to a pool and spa but I didn't use it. Breakfast is typical European with soft boiled eggs as the only hot item. There's a comfortable lounge for afternoon relaxing with apps and drinks. And when there's only 3 restaurants own in town - good thing their's was a good one. Service from beginning to end was all very friendly & helpful. …
Stayed a couple of nights at Hotel Steinbock. The welcome was very friendly. Immediately felt welcome, and that is for all staff. Very kind people. The house and rooms are spotless clean. Breakfast good. Was not keen on the buffet style but good selection. Dinner was very good. Pricey, but good quality and taste. Garage is convenient. All together enjoyed the stay vety much, although it is pricey, nur suppose That's just Switzerland
For a great vacation spot Pontresina Switzerland and the Hotel Stienbock is a great place to check out. If it has a negative, it isn't set up for handicap people. There are steps every where. For us on this trip that wasn't a problem. The staff is very friendly and welcoming, giving you a home feel. We recommend this place to stay for sure.
Very nice hotel with helpful staff and great food. Nice choice of wine. Give you a pass for all the local transportation-bus, train, tram etc. Great hiking. Train ride to Diavolezza tram for great views of Piz Bernina and Palu. Climb the later from the tram area. There is a great diner across the street with views, beer, etc. On Friday there was an alphorn concert but on by two local musicians.
