This hotel came under new management around a year ago, and lots of (good) changes since then it seems. Generally refreshed & redecorated. We stayed in the family apartment on the top floor. Big and spacious, with kitchen. Has not been redecorated, unlike much of the rest of the hotel, and decidedly dated. But immaculately clean. Restaurant was excellent, with new chef compared to reviews pre-new owner. Recommend booking though, it’s gets very full. Lovely sunny terrace for post-skiing beer. Very popular. This is a family hotel: small & friendly. Owner very present and friendly. Good location in centre of village. 5-10 minute walk to lifts, or a (busy) circular bus stops directly outside. Would definitely return if we came back to Andermatt.
Comfortable hotel in a great location. Handy to famous Swiss passes and in the centre of town so can walk to many restaurants. Note there are stairs and no lift. Although you could ask for assistance with luggage if needed. We stayed in summer and a sheet rather than a doona would be good, we were too hot.
Andermatt is in a wonderful location, being at the heart of some of the most spectacular Alpine passes. The Drei Koenig is in the heart of Andermatt, with the balcony rooms at the side having views up towards the Oberalp pass and the Glacier Express train. In the summer, the historic Gotthard horse-drawn coach stops for refreshments right outside the hotel, making for a wonderful photo opportunity. My husband and I have stayed at the Drei Koenig many times, and this year we had the pleasure of introducing it to a group of our friends. We are all car enthusiasts who were touring the Alps. The staff could not have been more welcoming. They even reserved part of their sunny terrace for us so that we could meet for drinks when we arrived. There is ample parking. The restaurant is very good and the owner was so kind to accommodate our large group at very short notice when our booking at another hotel fell through.…
You have to drive right into the centre of town down narrow cobbled streets to reach this hotel. It is situated next to a fast flowing river which if you are a light sleeper can disturb you - so take ear plugs! The hotel itself is clean, comfortable and the staff are friendly, helpful and speak good English. We eat on the front terrace of the hotel and the food was good although a little expensive (as with most things in Switzerland). A large beer (0.4l) was CHF 6.30, (£5.11), a small beer (0.33l) CHF4.45 (£3.65), Spaghetti Bolognese CHF 22.50 (£18.25, and pork schnitzel with chips CHF 26.00 (£21.08). B&B was CHF 200 (£162.18) a night. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice of breads, cereal, fruit, hams cheeses etc.
Particularly to overseas visitors, it is an important advice to avoid the Gotthardt Road Tunnel in favour of the excellently laid out mountain pass. You dispense with 16 km of sticky tunnel and are sure to experience a sensation of weather and altitude. 2100 metres may sound modest but the pass is extremely exposed to weather clashes so no passage will be like another. And once you do the pass, do not miss this owner-managed, tradtional hotel with its widely renowned restaurant! There are clean, nice rooms for any budget and if you can spend a night, do it right there in the clean, crisp air at 1440 metres and to the sound of cow bells. It is one of the best bits of European hospitality that I know.
I stayed here for 4 nights....the price was exceptionally good for Switzerland. The room was a good size, and to the side of the hotel so really quiet. The location is as good as it gets for Andermatt...very central...about equidistant to both main lifts....and you can ski back virtually to the door from the Gemstock mountain. The staff were super friendly and helpful...and I was lucky enough to get parking right outside the front door. The breakfast is on the simple side with no hot options.
I was born in Germany... My parents traveled much of Europe during the ten years they were together before I came along about 45- years ago... When my dad passed away, I scanned all of their slides and one place I really was to visit from looking at them was Switzerland, Andermatt in particular, because my parents stayed there. Now, they did not stay at the Hotel Drei Konige und Post, but, there was a number of pictures of it... So, being that it was somewhere that still existed all those years later I was happy for the opportunity to stay there. I was actually discouraged from including Andermatt in my travels, but, I am so happy I didn't change my plans. My stay at the hotel was perfect (I knew it wasn't a new glitzy property... I like those too, but, love the charm of a historic property when it is lovingly cared for... Which this property has been). My mom and I shared a room with a balcony (we had a tiny bit of snow the first night, so, being from Arizona, it was a little chilly to enjoy... But we had a great view of the river and a church) and a nice sitting area! The food... Really exceeded my expectations... Especially since it was hunting season and I chose a truly special meal... Traditionally served deer (complete with a hot plate and two servings each on its own fresh plate)... With vegetables, chestnuts, some fruit, and.. The juniper gravy... I wish I had a boat of it handy at all times! The breakfast was good as was the coffee. My second night I needed a smaller meal so was introduced to Swiss air dried beef, a new favorite! Every staff member was friendly and helpful (including with hiking recommendations) ... And the ever present owner was a joy too! I loved Andermatt partly for some of the reasons others might not embrace it... It's small, but, not too small... It has shopping, but not too much shopping. It has choices of places to eat, but not too many (and I really was happy eating at the hotel... Given no reasons not to). It has churches and bridges and beautiful homes to investigate, but not too many. And, I only did two hikes... Not even a dent! I'm hoping to return someday!…
We Really enjoyed our stay here, great hospitality, nice sized rooms and very friendly staff Breakfast included is a bonus and makes things easier in the morning, lots of dinner options nearby for all price ranges Highly recommended with lots of character And a great place to stay whilst touring the Swiss alpes
Very lovely staff and delicious food. Multi international tourists customers, perfect for unforgettable vacation in the Swiss Alps. The mountains healthy air is just perfect for long walking sport, trip with bicycle, and of course enjoy the delicious Swiss Alps food speciality.
Very friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is very good, with a large menu. The rooms are very clean and well laid out, although access for handicapped would be limited. There is limited parking out front, but more parking in the rear. Would highly recommend this hotel.
