A fantastic facility with a variety of accommodation options and great access to kiteboarding and windsurfing. Staff, owners and guests were all fantastic! The partnership with neighbour Pelican Reef added the bonus of a ocean view bar and lunch spot. Great daily yoga! Paddle boards!...More
Discovered La Ventana in an Internet search and decided immediately to go there, as it was maybe the only ocean spot on a paved road I hadn't seen in Baja Sur. When we arrived at Captain Kirk's, Pam and Chris, the summer caretakers, apologized for...More

Hi- We rented a car and drove from SJD to La Ventana. It took two hours and it got dark on the last half of the drive. The roads weren't as bad as the guide books make out, since they've been repaved in the past few years. We saw very few cars on the drive. I should mention that we discovered that we didn't really "need" the car while we were at La Ventana, since we were kiting (not sight-seeing, plus not many sights) and then you can walk to most places from Kirk's to eat out. We used it to drive around on a non-wind day and checked out the hot springs and the beach at the abandoned hotel. (Ask a local about that while when you'e there.) I'd recommend asking whomever you're staying with about a car service/taxi or if you can double up with any arriving renters. Alternatively, you can fly from SJD to LaPaz and it's a shorter drive/taxi from there. The taxis from SJD to LV are a bit expensive so you can weigh that vs. car rental and how much you may think you'll need it.
