So, you drive for five hours from Paris to Le Mont-Dore in the Dordogne through some fairly wet and dismal weather and arrive at your hotel that from the outside does look a little 'tired'. But, you step through the door to find you are their cherished guests and nothing, absolutely nothing is too much trouble. The Spa facilities (indoor pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and exercise room with floor space for exercise in addition to CV equipment) are opened for you especially and complementary drinks and nibbles are brought to you in the Spa as you relax. After changing for dinner, you arrive at the restaurant to enjoy the attention of your own charming and extremely sociable waiter who clearly takes great pride in his profession. He brings food and wine that would not be out of place in a Michelin star restaurant but at a fraction of the price. Replete, you head up to your room where the bed is twice the size of the double you've just slept in in Paris and the en-suite is modern, clean and in full working order. Well done, you've booked a stay at the Gran Carlina hotel in Le Mont-Dore and better still, you have two nights here. Bonus! 😉 The second night's service and food were equally as good. …
Although the hotel is looking good, a few elements leads to downgrading this hotel from 4 to 3 stars! Small rooms, no air conditioning, very few electrical plugs already used for TV, fridge and boiler!!! Positive points: welcoming is good, breakfast is good although service is poor, swimming pool is nice for swimming.
Small bed, old furniture from 80ties, dirty terras, and where renovations were done with cheap material. Stay away from this hotel. Breakfast costs 15€ but values only 5. This hotel has all possibilities (view on the waterfall and Puy de Sancy) but needs a complete rénovation. Fred parking & free WiFi.
Ridiculously overpriced, I suspect this was because we booked last minute. Ugly building in 70's style. Clean and staff ok. Breakfast was a joke the first morning- very poor for 15€. Supermarket baguette, chewy croissants, couple pieces sweaty cheese and meat. It was slightly better next day and we were offered cooked choices too. Spa and swimming pool were lovely but not enough to warrant 4* rating. Good location. Overall it was barely 3*.
This 1960/70 property is well located just 200m from the heart of the village. Its interior style reminds one of The Avengers, or Man from Uncle. But its well maintained and the staff very professional. We had room on 7th floor looking towards Sancy. Only noise were birds and the Dordogne river running through the village. Room could do with desk upgrade, but bathroom was good, shower over bath worked well, separate wc. Bathrobes abd slippers supplied. All in all it was ideal .
