just returned from a two day trip to lough allen hotel and spa in drumshambo and have to say that it is truly a great place to stay. rooms are spacious, modern and extremely comfortable with large king size beds. staff are mostly local and very friendly and will make your stay as comfortable as possible.

the added attraction of lough allen is that it also has a spa and what an experience this was.i had two treatments and have to say that it was the most relaxing experience ever as staff are professional and very accomodating. the food is also fabulous with everything you could want for breakfast. we also had an evening meal which was just divine and got a lot of added extras such as appertifs and after dinner chocolates and biscuits, we almost had to be rolled out of the restaurant!!

just incase the above does not convince you lough allen also has an outdoor jacuzzi with a fabulous view of the lake. just a bit of advice when you are booking-be sure to ask for a room with a view of the lake as we did not and were at the back of the hotel which looks onto the car park, while this did not bother us too much it would have been nicer to have been able to get up every morning with a view.all in all a great weekend and almost can't wait to go back. also rates are very reasonable at the minute.

Stayed in the Lough Allen on the way to a wedding much further west in Ireland. Beautiful hotel, lovely location right on Lough Allen, just outside Drumshanbo. Rooms are large, comfy beds, minimalistic type decor but homely, some rooms have balconies overlooking the lake.

Good restaurant, nice big bar (which does really good food until 9pm). Bar has large outside decked area overlooking lake as well.

Full spa / beauty salon and swimming pool. Also have outdoor jacuzzi overlooking lake.

Is an extension being built at the moment, understand it will be self catering apartments. Are also a number of large houses being built at far end of site which will also be self catering. They seemingly have permission for a small marina, some boating facilities, small golf course etc.

Lovely hotel, great staff, lovely rooms, beautiful location, well worth a visit.

So we booked a package having stayed here before on a similar package.
We had a lovely first evening... a lovely clean room and we took advantage of the facilities to the max...staff in the bar, with the exception of a senior male member of bar staff were very friendly. Leisure centre staff were just great.
On our 2nd evening it went south BIG TIME... as our package outlined, we went to dinner in the restaurant, which we initially thought was closed, as there was nobody there at 8pm. We were then informed we could order in the ( lively) bar!
We seated ourselves in the bar, only to be told we could NOT order from the bar menu and that we would have to return to the restaurant...
In which time my 8 year old... very mannerly daughter, had asked the 'senior' barman for a glass of water, only to be told "hold on, ive only got one pair of hand".......
THIS was the icing on the cake and a very sour icing at that...
The mix up between chefs & restaurants i could laugh off.... but the treatment of an 8 yr old girl, making one of her first orders on her own at a bar/bistro.... is inexcusable....
With regrets

I'm going to keep this short and sweet....this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. The room was filthy, carpet stank, the bed had the springs coming through it and was two single beds pushed together. The telly was like something out of the 80's. The room was lit up like a doctor's surgery. The bathroom was dirty and really dated. Staff very distance. The food was very average and overpriced for what you got. I agree about the pool, it looked like it wasn't cleaned since the day it was opened and the hot tube had weeds growing beside it. The whole place was overrun by kids. In summary do not waste your money here.

We recently visited The Lough Allen Hotel & Spa (31st May 2015) - an overnight stay that we planned to relax & unwind. However from the moment we arrived at the location we realised that this would not be the case.

The driveway of the hotel was not maintained & looked somewhat neglected. On arrival to the main building we were greeted by a group of men smoking which obstructed the main entrance door which didn't create a good first impression. As we entered the building we found that there was a lack of atmosphere & there was a high level of noise. We entered the main bar & it was overrun with children so we exited and sat in the main reception area.

We checked into our room which was standard enough, we had a few concerns that are as follows: radiator was extremely noisy (radiator valve knackered), blue mould on the net curtains, no extractor fan in the bathroom, tv remote control was broke, tv was from the 80's which only had 7 channels, tv reception was poor, windows were filthy, our view was off a yellow slide - we thought we would have got to see the lough. We never got to see the lough from any window in the hotel as the garden was overgrown & unloved.

We walked around the grounds of the hotel and there were pieces of gym equipment lying on the grass/drive way also there was an outdoor hot tub which was surrounded by equipment and covers - how this would encourage relaxation is beyond me!!! We looked for the gardens which are photographed on the website - but we couldn't find it - the garden was more like nature reserve and a hive wild life rather than a manicured garden. This was extremely disappointing.

We made our way to the spa as we had booked in for treatments - to enter the spa you had to enter the leisure centre, we made our way up the stair well and we were greeted by a member of the team who was lovely & friendly. We were given consultation forms and told to relax in the relaxation suite. I felt that the relaxation suite could have done with some soft music to create ambiance. I was disappointed that gym goers had to make their way through the spa to use some of the gym facilities. Our treatments were lovely and were carried out in professional manner however there was noise pollution from the leisure facilities below.

Following our treatments we went back to the room to get ready for dinner and our corridor was over run with children running up and down. The walls in the room were extremely thin and you could hear the tv/shower in the room next to you! We went down for dinner and the food was nice. The bar again was extremely noisy and there was a lot of children present, personal presentation of the staff & staff manners could have been a little bit better.

On the main corridor - we stopped to look at art work which was framed but were baffled as to why dead flies were framed also?

Also we were offended by the use of republican music playing in the main bar.

Overall - We feel that this hotel would not be an ideal location if you were looking to relax and unwind as it was disappointing & the volume of children was just too much.
We shall not be returning to the Lough Allen Hotel & Spa any time soon. It's more like Butlins than a hotel!!

I feel that the management team really need to invest time to develop this hotel as it not in line with a four star rated hotel & spa!

Not sure were to start with the things that went wrong. We picked this hotel because of the view and rooms with balcony as my 89 year old mother was travelling with us and it would have been nice for her to rest during the afternoon on the balcony. Firstly the hotel confirmed by email that the apartments overlooked the lough - not true our apartment looked out at a wooden fence and field. The apartment was supposed to have a balcony - again not true; there was a walk-way to get to the apartment. Once inside the toilet door didn't close, no hot water, no hairdryer, bathroom floor flooded, no battery in TV remote, no telephone to phone reception so had to keep going up to reception to let them know about all the problems. The duvet cover and sheets did not fit - they were too small!!
When we queried about housekeeping service ie change towels etc - reception staff confirmed housekeeping was only available if we asked for it!!!
Last but not least some of the coffee sachets were dated use by January 2011

As a young couple looking forward to a relaxing night away from the second we arrived at hotel knew was going to be a disaster this hotel is no where near what it looks like or is portrayed on there web page. Where to start
Reception - not very helpful
Rooms-Old need updating (I.e old TVs old beds old carpets no WiFi hello we are in 2015) windows filthy
Bar- girls and young lads working helpful polite but as stated in previous comments the old man John behind the bar is the most ignorant man I have ever came across and me and my partner retired to bed at 9 due to this
I would not waste my money time or effort coming here the hotel needs updated and the hotel really needs to rethink there staff

My wife and I purchased a Groupon voucher for a 2 night stay in this hotel. We booked our stay to coincide with my birthday and always book hotel breaks as an opportunity to not only relax but also to indulge in a little bit of luxury/pampering.
When we checked in and went to our room, we were a little underwhelmed. The room felt a little basic, particularly the fixtures and fittings in the bathroom. The view from our room, however, was beautiful.
We then went to the leisure suite and again felt quite disappointed. Firstly the pool was quite cold, so we decided to go to the outdoor hot tub but it was out of order. We both really enjoy spending time in the leisure suite of hotels and it’s this that is our main motivator when booking a hotel. This was the only time we used the leisure facilities in Lough Allen.
That night we went to get something to eat in the restaurant but it was closed so the bar was the only option. The food was ok but not what I would have hoped for. When paying for the meal I used my debit card. When reading the receipt later I noticed the bill had been converted into GBP. My experience of this in the past is that the conversion rate is less than fair for the customer. The receipt indicated not only a 3.5% mark-up but also a disclaimer stating that I had been offered a choice of which currency to pay the bill. This was not the case, at no point was a choice put to me at the point of payment.
On returning to our room it felt quite cold so I turned the radiator up full but it had no effect that evening/night.
The first morning in the hotel, my wife and I went for breakfast and were again faced with disappointments/frustrations. Firstly, there were no glasses for the fruit juice. When going for hot food, there were no plates. When provided with a plate I proceeded to get my cooked breakfast. There was no bacon, no eggs, only 1 edible tomato and about a spoonful of mushrooms left. I plated up what I could and waited for an opportunity to get the attention of a member of staff (off which there was only one), when I asked for bacon and eggs they lady was quite nonchalant and apathetic towards me and simply said “they’re on there way” as she continued to walk past without even breaking her stride.
That evening our room was still quite cold, also the room had been serviced but the bed was barely tidied and the dirty cups had not been replaced, so I spoke to the lady at reception and she said she’d give the heating a boost and would get clean cups for us. When I returned to the room the radiator was still cold so I rang reception again so she said she’d get someone to look at it. We left the hotel shortly after that for the evening. On return the lady at reception stated someone had looked at the radiator and there was something wrong with a valve or something. When we returned to the room the door had not been closed properly, which was frankly appalling, given that all our valuables were in the room. As customers we place a lot of trust in the staff that enter the room in our absence, this was wholly betrayed on this occasion. The radiator was still not functioning correctly and was barely luke-warm, but given the time of day and the fact that we were preparing for bed, we took no further action.

As I’ve stated, we really enjoy our hotel breaks. We usually have 4+ hotel breaks per year as well as a foreign holiday. Within my job I regularly have to stay in hotels throughout the UK and Ireland, so am well used to hotel facilities/services. We certainly did not feel pampered/relaxed and have rarely come away from a hotel feeling as disappointed as we did when checking out of this hotel and added to this disappointment was the fact that in impacted negatively on my birthday celebration and left it memorable for all the wrong reasons.
As soon as I got home I wrote a long letter highlighting every issue we had and sent it via email to the hotel for the attention of the manager, as yet we still haven't had a reply! Clearly the feedback from customers isn't high on their priorities.

On the night we arrived in the hotel. the found the hotel very dirty and not very well look after. Curtains in room dirty. Smell of sewerage thru out hotel. not impressed. Staff unfriendly. Breakfast was very bad. We had to ask for everything. Restaurant very dirty. Staff not well dressed. Their uniforms very dirty. They did not present themselves very well. We ended up checking out 2 nights early. Would not recommend at all. In fact I have been to a lot of hotels and this is the worst ever.
