Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our extended family attended the Horse and Hound after our aunt's funeral two weeks ago. In the COVID era, that was no easy feat for the establishment but they handled it superbly. Staff wore face shields, tables were spaced out, and hand sanitisers were at the entrance/exit.

I'm told Management were a joy to deal with during the booking process, the waiters and waitresses were friendly and consummate professionals, smiling non-stop, and the pints were went down very well.

I couldn't decide between the beef or the turkey and ham so I had both. Good call on my part as both dinners were delicious; I was able to wind my brother up that he only had the one before David sorted him out with a second dinner too. The apple tart after dinner was by far the nicest apple anything I've ever tasted. I look forward to calling back to taste it again.

A special thank you to David O'Leary for looking after our table. You couldn't meet a nicer, more professional guy. He'll go far in hospitality.

The staff were pleasant and helpful. Our room had odd things wrong with it though. One of the bedside tables had a knob missing I found it in the floor and replaced it. Behind the same table was the base of a lamp just lying there. The hairdryer was ancient and broken. When I attempted to use it the handle fell off from the air hose and the air hose fell off from the motor. The toilet was taped to the wall…no idea why! Water from sink tap only came out at small trickle. No air conditioner in evidence so we slept with windows open. Unfortunately a dog owner left their little dog out all night and it barked incessantly. The food in the bar was great! We had ribs and a salad. Overall stay was disappointing as I would have expected more from a “highly rated” hotel.

This is an easy and comfortable stop on the road from Waterford to Wexford / Rosslare with plentiful easy parking.
The car park even has a take away coffee dock called "The Hatch"
We were greeted on arrival, promptly seated and our order was taken. The food was brought to our table without any undue delay and servers were polite and pleasant. My haddock main was fresh, well cooked and presented well on the plate whilst my companions thought his salmon daily special was a tasty dish.
We ate our meal in spacious, comfortable surroundings.
Importantly the server even came to the table during our meal to check that the dishes were satisfactory. The dishes ate as good as they looked and we left with our hunger sated and bellies full.
I would certainly call again.

We came day before as we had a football tournament close by, thinking we can relax. 12 of us booked for 900E for the one night rooms, had dinner for 300E and drinks before at least for 200E. But that wasn't enough. Manager/Owner of the hotel who is extremely rude, and his aggressive attitude towards customers is just ridiculous. Made us think that we would be kicked out for having one drink in the rest area of the hotel as it wasn't purchased in their bar, telling us how he will make money if we don't drink from his bar. His treatment towards his own peers is also very disrespectful, as I did speak with some of the people working there. He witnessed even that owner is treating other nationalities with anger and frustration, using fear to get what he wants. This whole hotel has miserable energy and might cause Strange Things to come in life. I will never forget this feeling of being put down so much and of course he did tell me to F**k off couple off times and shouting on me.

Friendly staff, good food, clean rooms and reasonably priced.
Traditional feel to the place and nice to see a family run pub / hotel.
Food is of good quality and the price of the food and rooms is very good.
Plenty of parking and would definitely stay again.
Amazing covid guidelines being followed. Customers having their vaccine certification checked and information logged. Best system I have seen so far.

We travelled on the ferry recently and called here the food and service was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. We liked it so much we called again on our return journey and again we weren't disappointed even though the staff had changed the service and food were top class. We would highly recommend this place for anyone travelling on this road. Fantastic spot

Roast beef dinner. Cheap fatty beef. Cold lumpy mashed potato. Soggy cold mixed veg. Inedible overcooked broccoli. Tasteless, dry Yorkshire pudding.
Stony faced waiter.
Glass of water was nice. Gravy nice flavour.
I think the owners should taste the food that’s going out to tables.
One star.
Far too expensive for the quality offered.

The Horse and Hounds is about a 30 minute drive from the ferry. It’s on the main road so you can’t miss it. Plenty of parking. We had a ground floor double room. A large room with comfortable bed. Dinner is served until 9 pm. We weren’t that hungry so shared a pizza and fries which was very nice. Full Irish breakfast the next morning which was well presented and very enjoyable. A good start to the holiday.
