Great location on this beautiful Island. Delightful staff and beautiful hotel. The pastries and cakes are the best I have ever tasted and the chef is most charming and attentive. The meats cheese & eggs breakfast was also amazingly good. Great value for money. Highly recommend. Wished we could have stayed longer.
The Hotel Rio is located down by the harbour in the middle of everything. Run by Roberta and Felice it is a family run hotel with character. Felice is an extraordinarily good cook, and oversees a robust and imaginative kitchen, while Roberta fills the place with art from her studio and around the island. An excellent choice if staying in Rio Marina.
Found this hotel online and decided to book, glad we did. The staff was nice and helped us out the best that they could (us being English only speakers). The room was large and clean. The views were great. They have a full time chef that makes pastries, cakes, and other dishes for breakfast (he also does dinners for parties upon request). Of our 2.5 week stay in Italy, we were most excited about eating breakfast from chef Felize. Couldn't recommend this place enough.
I can't complain and I can't compliment... everything was pretty average. The hotel seemed on par with the others that we saw on the island and the room was an OK size and was clean. There's a pretty good gelato place outside of the hotel. The best part about this hotel's location was that is was pretty much right accross from the ferry, so you don't have to walk far with your luggage. If you are looking to explore the island of Elba, I would recommend staying on the other side at Porto Azzurro. Rio Marina wasn't very tourist friendly and had a real small town feel, but Porto Azzurro was much more hospitable to tourists (at least in our experience). We explored the island by bus, and the other side seems to be a bit more fun (not that this is an exciting place... it is more of a relaxing and laid back place). Do I recommend Elba? If you need a vacation from your vacation like we did, then absolutely. Do I recommend Hotel Rio Sur Mare? If you want to stay on this side of the island, then yes. For what is was, it was OK.…
We arrived on Elba having having booked a hotel. We found the Hotel Rio sul Mare in the picturesque port of Rio Marina. Everything was excellent, from the comfortable room to the extensive breakfast. Also very convenient position for the beach and harbour Great value for money - we couldn't believe the prices! If we return to Elba, we would definitely seek out this hotel again
