We spent 4 nights at the Relais Antica Badia and used it as a base to explore Ragusa, Noto, Scicli, Marzamemi, Modica, and even managed to fit in a winery visit thanks to the wonderful staff at the front desk. (All day trips are highly recommended.) The room (Room 205) was amazing with a lovely balcony overlooking the Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista. The bed, bathroom, and finishings were terrific - the nicest hotel on our travels so far. Breakfast was BIG and excellent quality - too big so we wanted to save room for other meals and had coffee at Caffè Italia instead, a lovely place across the road. We had aperitivo and dinner at the adjoining restaurant, Ciano, which is not to be missed! It was the best meal we had in Sicily so far (we're serious foodies). Definitely Michelin quality inventive food where every dish Is gorgeous, packed with flavour and very inventive. Every dish is like opening a present. And how often do you leave the restaurant having made friends with the head chef, sommelier and wait staff! Awesome! Parking on site worked well for us, but there's also a lot around the corner. Honestly, this visit was a real treat and we highly recommend staying here.…
The hotel is situated in the center of Ragusa superior. We stayed in their junior suite named 'Baronessa Antonietta' which was one of their recently renovated rooms and it provided a nice view of the Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista. The room was very aesthetically renovated and we really enjoyed our stay. The front desk staff is extremely helpful and the breakfast was very good both in terms of spread and the service.
In November 2021, we stayed at Relais Antica Badia. We had seen from a few reviews that it was an amazing stay, but we honestly didn't know what to truly expect until we got there. Walking around this property transports you to 1619 which as so fascinating and beautiful! You are basically staying inside a museum with 1619 artifacts, gorgeous antiques, candelabras, ancient paintings, etc. And instead of the area being roped off, where you aren't allowed to touch anything, you are actually allowed to sit on the antiques and touch all of it (treat it gently of course!) Upon check in, we were greeted by the person at the front desk with such warmth and he was so helpful. He even helped up navigate the tight parking, which is on their property and private which was great. He walked us to our room and showed us where breakfast would be served, and on the way, showed us the incredible seating areas that we were welcome to enjoy. The room where we had breakfast was out of this world! Our room had all of the amenities one could want along with a walk in shower (Important to me since I slipped in a tub in the past and broke my wrist). The room was clean, very comfortable and also takes you back in history. The breakfast has been recently revamped per the hotel's amazing Manager, Ignazio Ottaviano and was fabulous! Ignazio has the friendliest personality and most sincere and bright smile! Besides the many delicious choices on the long table by the historic fireplace, they will also serve you a hot breakfast and champagne! We enjoyed this stay immensely!!!! We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone! Directly across the street is the incredible Cathedral di San Giovanni Battista that you can go inside. At the front of the Cathedral there is a plaza with a few restaurants / bars and pastry / gelato store which we loved. Also, the same street as the hotel, if you want down the street there is a great Antique store that I found an incredible candelabra in that I so happily took home. It's called RomAntic and the owner, Rosanna Cartia, was charming. I only knew about this place because Ignazio (Hotel Manager) was kind enough to share it with me when I asked where I could find Antiques. Thank you Ignazio! We also went to visit a great nearby castle (you need a car) called Castello di Donnafugata. It was a castle and one of the best costume museums I've seen along with beautiful grounds that you can stroll around. Anyway, needless to say, if you are going to Ragusa, you should definitely stay at Relais Antica Badia. It's a fabulous stay that you won't regret! In fact, I'm a Tour Operator and plan to create a tour to Sicily and will plan on using this hotel for my guests. This is how much I loved it!…
Great location in the center of Ragusa superior in the heart of Barock Sicily. Great service and hospitality. And great experience in one if the most beautiful boutique hotels in Italy. Thank you Ignacio. We will be back as soon as possible.
Really liked this place. The superior rooms were very spacious and well appointed. The staff more than helpful and friendly. Limited parking if you book in advance which is well worth doing. Breakfast was extensive and served in the most amazing rooms. We didn’t eat preferring to go out to Ibla in the evening. Highly recommend this place
Hotel locates in an old building at main pedestrian street in new town. Our suite was not en suite but a big room. Bathroom was quite tiny. Rooms have names, not numbers, and they are not easy to find first time. Service was not the best. We arrived early due to ferry from Valletta. There was no check-in before 1 pm even while there were only few guests in the hotel.
This hotel is an old XIX aristocratic palace beautifully restored in the center of Ragusa in front of the city Cathedral. The rooms are very beautiful, very well decorated (with pretty furniture and lights) and very confortable. Breakfast are in a nicel room of the palace (near the ball room), very complete with many thingst to eat and drink. There is also a very good spa inside the hotel. The staff is wonderful, taking care of everything you need.
This hotel was dimly lit and somewhat run down. Ragusa is actually on two hilltops and all the sights are on the other hilltop, which requires going down and up winding roads. This hotel showed its age with dimly lit rooms and hallways. The only thing new was the elevator. Parking was available for 15 Euros daily. Breakfast was ample but the quality was disappointing and not very fresh. The hotel staff was polite.
Interesting boutique hotel old Abbey. Located upper Ragusa so need to walk down, down, down to lower Ragusa where al the action is. But the walk down is spectacular especially evenings before sunset. Take a taxi back. Rooms comfortable but not luxurious. Light challenged which is common for "boutique hotels". Friendly but skeletal staff. Quiet, Breakfast, meh.
This small hotel is a hidden gem in Ragusa wonderful old baroque feeling and furnishings. The friendly staff park your car order taxis to and back from Ibla which is very busy with tourists so we enjoyed staying in the higher part of town. A good restaurant on the corner too.
